My biggest problem with the 800K was that it would have required me to make a taxable transaction.  As to having a monthly annuity check deposited to Bangkok Bank, sometimes it will catch the exchange rate up, sometimes down.  I believe the term is income averaging.  I get through most months without additional Wise transfers.

Exactly my position. To be specific the 800k would cost an additional 4,000 usd in taxes  one time as well as the loss of investment income, maybe 2000 usd a year if i guess right. Admittedly i sometimes need to go to Wise but personal choices in women an alcohol.

  2. It’s really shit that everyone on this thread legally qualifies for a visa but we use agents. As Jacko said the agents don’t want to do the income method. The US and UK Embassies are useless.  My friend in Bangkok charges upwards to 80k for a visa but those boys are not expats, Perhaps not eligible and I fear may someday bite us. He is offering me a Permanent Resident option but the cost is high. For me when I move to Khon Kaen I may try to go through the hoops for the 65,000 method myself. I’m not putting 80k here though I respect not everyone has a verified US or UK pension.

Did you know that they fixed the path that connects Wong Amat Beach to Pattaya Beach?

Good to know, thanks hyku, you mean in front of Dusit? My knees are toast now so not a lot of walking anymore. Am checking with Bumrungrad to see if there’s a solution.  But I do Kayak a lot and will head south and take a look.  Target rich environment of Toplessness along this stretch of North Beach.

  4. Our ice truck comes down the street every morning. I thought I’ll just buy an ice maker . Looking into it they are complex, prone to needing repairs and will get dirty and difficult to clean.  Sometimes the simplest things are best. And the ice guy is nice, stopping to talk. I’m still a bit of farang oddity here .

Comparing to UK and Oz Thailand comes out pretty good!  Coincidentally someone told me how much their Sky costs them in UK, TV and internet I believe... like wow!

The family home in Annapolis is paying 3400 baht equivalent/month for internet and TV with less tv than i get here with IPTV.

  6. Force it is high. The data sim sounds nice as im paying 600/month for Dtac in addition to CAT and only use a small amount of the allotted data.  When i move to Khon Kaen 3bb hard wire fiber from the street looks to be 700 to 1300 for 1gbps/1gbps. I am a tech idiot and don't know what that means so probably buy more than i need. The IPTV guy is kind and send emails to his clients to clear this ,download that ,correct this.He then sends me a email saying Bill i know you won't do any of this, next time at i'm at Northpoint i'll do it.    It appears True is also an option up there so maybe i take some time to get educated.

  7. Cat had fiber wired in the Hallways . Paid a separate fee for a private company to run the line into the condo. Then the CaT techs hooked the box and TV . The guy who installed my IPTV said it was very fast.  Reliable and no problem streaming.   Cat is 1200/month.  I’m looking to get similar in Khon Kaen if anyone has a recommendation.   3BB seems best so far.

  8. Good story Jacko and well on you to intervene.  Monkeywatch is always a favorite and appreciated. Sandcastles at the beach.Grew up near the ocean and as a kid a built many short living empires.   Jacko i had a similar experience with an acquaintance from home. He is in a heated argument with the 5 baht toilet guy because he only had a large bill at and least the toilet guy told him he didn't have change rather than grabbing the money.  The ugly American didnt understand why the fellow didnt just take the loss, it's only 5 baht.  I intervened with an apology in Thai and a 100 baht to the Thai. The American was lucky he didn't get his ass kicked as while the toilet guy was old the M/C guys observing were not. The US fellow scoffed at my explanation and i avoided him thereafter.

  9. Agree Robin Hood, when taking a break from cooking ill order 3-4 days of food from there. They know i'm pissed with Grab so will  send staff with the food in 20 minutes i tip the guy 100 baht .Unfortunately for me i don't care for Thai Food or most restaurants so miss out js' point that restaurant meals are a bargain compared to the 40 usd i pay in Annapolis.  Villa and Paleo Robbies are expensive Farang.  I fear my impending move to Khon Kaen, no food there but a stellar excuse to take the 45 minute flight to the Queen on Soi 6.

  10. js the world is indeed small.  We both live in Wongamat . In the states you are in Scottsdale ,myself in Prescott AZ. Always looking for a taco with salsa and sour cream.

Rhino knows Mexican and has pointed out venues in Bangkok pretty damn good ,not that Sunrise is bad.

Well, it’s Taco Tuesday, but the best I could come up with in the Wongamat area was a chicken burrito special. 229 baht. Summer Bistro. It wasn’t half bad, all things considered.

  12. Lucas was a maligned company that sharpened the senses of my otherwise hemp addled generation . We could judge speed by observing the roadway pass along us. Accurately gauge RPM shift points using our ears. Calculate time/distance into fuel burn with the precision of a Pilot. Appreciate the sound of Doves and the flushing of Quail while hitching along a country road having failed to make that calculation.  As a young man Ozzy Osbourne worked for Lucas . The Prince of Darkness.

  13. js, delivery started to get bad even before the tourists' arrived.  Had a comically bad time with an order from Robins Hood which has good food. I called the manager and he sent his own staff over within 20 minutes ,tipped the fellow 100 baht.  Called another order a couple weeks later and said i'll tip the driver 100 baht if we could skip Grab. The guy was very happy. I had the same arrangement with Chow Soy before they moved to the darkside. New York Pizza is also good as they have their own delivery guys. They message when leaving so you know when they will arrive.  Mcdonalds seems to be at the condo before i finish the order call.  I tend to cook about 10 days, made an excellent Goan Fish Curry tonight, but sometimes you just want the stuff handed to you.  Hope things improve but doubtful.  Moving to Khon Kaen later but no delivery, no Villa Market or Paleo Robbies and i don't eat Issan Thai.  We will see.

  14. It's been going on prior to the holiday. 2 hour wait for chinese a month ago. Why so few Chinese restaurants? 2 weeks ago i had a 3k order with Robins Hood cancelled by Grab.  RH called and sent one of the staff over with the order.  Getting a bolt from 13/3 last week prices doubled from the usual 80 baht to go anywhere .That day nothing was available except a van.

I always presented it and thought I got a bit off the price of the current purchase, at least I am sure that was how it  used to  work... so now it became a  habit. I still find a calendar next to the laptop handy.... to put a circle round some date..... I can't trust my memory these days and often the phone is somewhat distant. These discount cards are all pervading and to be honest I am fed up of being asked at Big-CX.... got one for Homepro too... my credit card has some points scheme but checking on the website it looks like I would have to use it to buy a Ferrari, to get enough points for some hanging furry dominoes.

i bought some sheets at Central, gave them my primary email , terrible mistake. Received a minimum of 4 emails/hour, every hour selling lamps or such. Took 3 months of hitting unsubscribe before they stopped.  I now have a secondary email i use initially  for companies i don't trust or think may be annoying.  it is ginhoi@ , really have to consider whether the company is legit or if i know the organization before i use that one.
