HI guys. This got delayed for technical reasons, but I am starting on this right now today... will be taking the site in to offline more here in a moment, and will return it to service once the move is made. This may take most of the day today - I will try to have it done as fast as possible, but I expect it to take at least 6 hours to transfer the data. Will update this thread once we are live on the other server.

Hi Guys.
Been a while since ive posted here.... sorry about that! Been super busy for the last year.
I am getting some failing hard drive notifications on the server this site is hosted on, and I fear the backup is out of date. So I am going to move it asap.
Not sure that will happen today, but it will be very soon... and there will be no further notice. When I start I will take the site offline and you will see a message saying the site is offline... and when it comes back up it should be on the new server, provided the hard drives last that long. ?
Will update here as soon as this is finished.

It was about 2 years ago now or so. Its always been my intention on doing something like a landing page on the www portion of the site, but all the life changes that came with covid just blew that out of the water... tho I still hope to get around to it ?
Sorry about the confusion... ill see if there is something I can do to forward those other possible addresses for the time being. Thought I Was doing that actually, but may not have been ? - its been one of those years.

Ya, this new (very temporary) server .... well... sucks. lol.
By spec its not bad... but its shit hardware. My servers are still in route to the new datacenter, so it will be at least a couple weeks before I can get back on solid hardware again. Not much I can do about it until then

@jacko is this still happening? Do you know a way to reproduce it reliably?>

Oh that's not good. Let me see if I can fix that.

Move is complete. for now.
I already do not like this new server... The rushiness of this (yes, I just made that word up) forced my hand... but its up and working, and while it may be a bit slow - that part is temporary. Once I secure all my data (still have a dozen servers to go) I will post a longer explanation of why this move was necessary and my plan going forward - there will be another move at some point - back to my own hardware, but it will take several weeks I think. The hardware has to be shipped from its current location (Michigan) to California, where a good friend is going to revamp the servers and re-rack them in a new datacenter... at which point I can move all my shit back to them. The story is a fun one and ill tell it when time allows ?
For now... we are back! Albeit a little slower. For now. I WILL fix that ?

ok guys. Last update on this one.
The transfer took a LOT longer than expected... not entirely sure why. But it appears that I will need to take the site down during the sync as changes made here are messing with the restore over there. So in a moment I am going to take the forum offline and it will be offline until its up 100% at the new server... and I am sorry to say that the process could well take 12 hours. I will try to make it faster this time, but its kinda out of my hands - it takes as long as it takes. but the results will be worth it ?

In the interim, it looks good.
Ya, this is still the old server. Next time it goes offline ill change DNS and sync up changes... the initial data copy is still happening in the background. Takes a minute to transfer 250GB of shit lol.

Server move is in progress, but the forum is live for posting... I will briefly take it offline again to re-sync data in a few hours once the large file base is transferred (its taking a very long time).
-
UPDATE: Server move is happening today. Will start in about 30-60 minutes. Downtime unknown. Will get it back up as soon as possible.

Hi Guys. Sorry for the late reply on this, but this website will be changing homes in the next couple days and due to the extreme number of things I have to do there will be little to no warning before it happens. I am going to do everything I can to minimize the downtime, but there will be some.
I will give a longer explanation as to why later, but the short version is the datacenter I have hosted my dozen servers with for the last 15 years is closing down on short notice and I must move all my servers to a new datacenter... and while this website is personally important to me, the other sites and services hosted on the other servers are what makes me the money I need to keep living the good life... so I have to prioritize those ?
Once I start moving this site it will go offline and stay offline until the transfer is complete. If I had to estimate I would say 4 hours? But that is just a "pull it out your ass" number as I have no idea what the network on the new servers is like yet... I wont know until they are online sometime in the next 48 hours. AS soon as they re online I will be moving sites over in the order they come up in my server list, which is kinda random. Bear with me and ill have it done as quickly as I can ?

Yup, our plugins were turned off, and at least one of them are out of date. I did not want to turn them on while I was tired in case they broke something. Will get them back on today.
Also, just got a quote of $250 for a fully customized theme with unlimited changes for a week. So I might just do that. Ill post a poll later asking for color suggestions.

@frostfire thank you for the large amount of time and effort you have put in, and just put in to keep this forum up and running.
Chances are you encountered the same problems with the upgrade script that PA and then 247 had to deal with during their upgrade. It's to your credit and expertise it took you less than two days to resolve the issues. PA and 247 took much longer.
As for the theme, I believe whatever customized theme you had in the old version was lost with the upgrade.
And for BM's that are seeing this upgraded version of the forum software for the first time, off the top of my head some key differences are:
- no more page numbers (the software guys at Invision decreed they are too old fashion and don't deserve to be in a modern forum)
- The Report, Share and Edit options are now in the upper right corner of a post under the ellipsis.
- Under your profile settings you now have Content View Behavior which allows you to change the setting so clicking on a topic title will take you to the latest, unread content in the topic.
Cheers for that.
Sometime today I will actually take a minute and look in to it. And start working on a new theme.... Or maybe ill just hire someone to do a better one this time. If this thing didn't broadside my ass I would have made screenshots etc to "save" what I could of the theme. Live and learn lol.

Seems like it was down over 12 hours from the USA. Could be wrong.
Ya that was tongue in cheek. It was about 1.5 days. Almost 2 days.

Hi Guys.
A couple of you early birds might have noticed that the site was down for 3 or 4 minutes....
So... I am going to give a nice long explanation on what happened later... after I get some sleep. It took me almost 2 days of full time work with almost no sleep at all to get this fixed. In short just so you guys don't go crazy with the speculation, it was a catastrophic failure of invision's auto upgrade script along with my dumb ass not seeing that there was an error message that cancelled the backup I took just before I hit the upgrade button. So ya. That happened.
I will update this thread with a longer explanation as soon as I get some rest.
Oh.. ya. The theme. I have no idea whats going on with the theme. and to be honest I am too tired to look at it right now. The site works, and while its ugly... well... its better than nothing. Ill get the theme fixed ASAP.

I think I resolved this. Let me know if you see the issue again. Also, I did not get a notification for this message, so if this kind of thing happens, do not hesitate to call or email/message me outside ptalk if I do not reply quickly.
