  1. ok,

So tonight between rounds of the dance contest at FLB, Lovedog100, Skate and I decided to go check out the "new and improved" Xzone.

It did seem cleaner, with new paint and clean tables and seats.

The girls were average looking, with one single stunner in the lot, and another that I would not have kicked off my lap.

The tab on the other hand... was very high. 150 baht for San Mig Light, and 130 baht for tiger.

To put it very plain and clear: There is NOTHING in this gogo worth that price for beer, period. The show girls were not interactive, and did not do anything while we were there except dance alone - nothing special at all - can see the same in any gogo on walking street. The stunner was topless, but not bottomless.. and was soon called off the stage by a japanese guy, and quickly re-attached her top before sitting with him. Same as you would see in Baccara for 115 per beer.

150 is way too much for such a out of the way place and with no exceptional talent.

unless they change their prices, they are doomed to fail. I am sad to say (after being a very good customer for years) that I will not be back, even if I hear of a price change. Its just not worth it.

    Frosty

  2. Most of my customers are very security conscience where it comes to their internet identity, and that has forced me to learn quite a bit about how proxies and VPNs work, how they are run, etc.

The long and the short of it is that if you commit a crime on the internet, no public VPN provider will keep you safe. Period.

Even the VPN providers in 3rd world countries that do not keep logs can be gotten around. THEIR isp will have logs, and those logs can be used with timestamps to find you.

That said, if you are not committing a crime but want your identity to be kept private, there are ways. One of the better ones is HideMyAss.com - a good 50% of my customers use that one, and I have very good reports about it. They will not hide info from Law Enforcement, but do not divulge info to anybody else. Moderate spam is permitted as well. For heavy spam, better to go for SquidProxies - they do not care about spam at all, but you are very easy to track with a proxy, as your original IP address is usually embedded in the headers of every request under the header "X-FORWARDED-FOR".

If you want real protection, throw some money in a throwaway Visa card (the anonymous type) and order a VPS server from a russian provider... there are dozens of them for about $30 a month. Get a techie to set you up a VPN tunnel thru that VPS. The traffic will be tracked to the VPS easily enough, but its not likely to get any further than that. Its still not fool proof... the russian VPS provider may log your login attempts to the VPS... tho being a VPS provider myself, I think thats unlikely. I do not monitor the IPs my customers use to sign in to their VPS via tunnels... only the IP used to register and pay for the service or RDP (Remote Desktop) connections.. You can do that part from a internet cafe, then just use the VPN tunnel from your home or office computer. Still not foolproof, but it would take a very very good tech and a shitload of cooperation between different companies to track you down.

  3. I won't give LK as harsh a review as LoveDog did... I do enjoy the occasional afternoon in Champagne.... but even then the CC's are out in force. Not too big a deal for me as I have a reputation for paying well, but for people going on for the first time the girls usually ignore you unless you are fairly aggressive about getting their attention... tho that is understandable since a very high number of their customers are there only to drink the cheap beer and never buy lady drinks. Enough of that would make just about any gal start to doze off lol. Even there tho I usually see only 1 or 2 girls that I would barfine, and 90% of the times I have been there I have walked out again without even buying a ladydrink.

The rest of his facts are just about spot on tho. Sure, there are 6 (and soon to be 8) gogo's there... but they don't have a single gogo's worth of good looking girls between the lot of them. Makes it a pain when going out with friends (or on a barcrawl) since most of the people will be interested in the same bird lol.

There is ok food to be had there tho... and if Bliss ever closes, Lolitas is a good BJ bar (never choose it over Bliss tho).

Oh well.. I guess thats why I spend so much time on Walking Street.

  4. I would also like to know this.

We had a great dinner at Tigglebitties last year - but I am a very picky eater... and would be better served by a buffet.

Tho... perhaps early in the day. Can do a big lunch at a buffet then still have dinner with friends at tigglebitties. That sounds like a plan :D

  5. Had dinner at Zico's this week. Pricey, but good service and food. Only complaint was that we were asked if we wanted to sit inside or out. Chose inside as we thought there would be aircon. No aircon, no fans. Would have been more cool outside and getting the sea breeze.

    Ahh, thanks for that tip.

Damn, for 900b each I would think they can afford aircon.

Still intend to try this... but maybe only on a cool day now. I hate places with no AC... Even PBG, tho admittedly its usually ok there with the sea breeze. There are days tho that its just too hot to sit outside.

  6. How many trips you gonna have to make on the motorbike to get everything from the apt to the new place?

    grins-jump.gifgrins-jump.gifgrins-jump.gifgrins-jump.gif

    Probably about 50 lol.

No, actually am going to hire a truck and the door guys from FLB and do it in one go. Will pack things up over the next few days, then move on either Wed or Thurs, tho I might have to leave the computer here for a few more days depending on the scheduling of my internet move.

Going to have the puppy go in to the Vet on Tuesday and stay until I'm moved, and they will de-flea him 100%... and will have the new place sprayed before I move in. Little thing has fleas and the frontline doesn't work because there are other dogs here where I'm at and their owners don't do anything about fleas or ticks, and the yard here is full of them. Am determined to make sure that problem is finished before I move.

I likely will move some things over there by motorbike, but most will be trucked. I have way too much shit, tho a lot of it won't even be needed at the new place. I bought a countertop dishwasher, and the new place has a full size one, I bought a oven, and the new place has one lol. The only big appliance I bought and will still need is the washer and dryer - new place has a washer, but no dryer. I fucking hate moving.

  7. Can you remember anything else that might be helpful search wise? I would like to read what happened.

Not sure if it was official, maybe just a rumor? But someone mentioned it was either the owner of, or supplier of, the Thai Cream Pie site that (funnily enough) went offline shortly after.

I think they even mentioned the hotel? If not then the general area because I have it pictured in the beach road area around Soi 2-3-4... me memory is a bit dodgy.

Anyone else remember that one? It got some attention here at the time.

  8. There's a shop in BR Soi 13/2 selling sturdy boxes. I do like the big plastic tubs with lid you buy at Big C/Tesco etc, but they cost more.

That's exactly where I got them.

Its opposite and a little down (toward 2nd road) from the post office. I actually had gone that way to check the post office, but they only had small ones. Nice big ones for 60 baht there, and she dropped that to 40 baht for 15, and threw in a couple bungie cords to tie them down to the motorbike.

Now I just gotta pack. Not looking forward to that. A guy like me can buy a lot of shit in 4 years. :/

  9. +1

(check out the cheapo hardware shop opposite the back of 2nd Roads Big C if you go down this route)

That's what I was looking for. Will go take a look. Didn't know they had anything like that back there... used to be a ceramic/pottery type place I think. Bought some stuff there years ago. Will go check them out here in a bit, once I know for sure they are open lol.

A good idea. In australia when I move I go down to a local supermarket or electrical store. Pick up the cartons that they use for food deliveries or appliances. They usually just throw them out the back for disposal.

Exactly what I used to do, years ago when the boxes were in good shape. That last several years I was in the US the stores either stopped doing that or they dismantled them first, or they recycled them... so I started using Uhaul boxes, which while expensive were very very good quality.

  10. Well, I finally got in gear and found a nice® house and am moving next week.

So... I need boxes. Would like to find some strong medium size boxes similar to the ones UHaul sells in the US... Any idea where I can find a place that sells them in Pattaya?

Any idea where I can get them?

    TIA

  11. I did like Tex-Mex while down in Texas, and the BBQ ribs etc. I think it was the Taco Bell quesadillos I was very keen on. But burgers never did much for me, a piece of prime rib was much better.

I much prefer a Thai omelette with the minced pork in it than the ones Dennys served up.

My problem with food when in the USA was there was always too much of it! And I am weak.

But seriously, 900 baht for burger and coke and onion rings. Surely one of the English pubs can serve that up for much less.

Of course they can... and do. Many do. The problem is they taste like shite.

I mean, even someone who doesn't really like burgers would be able to tell a major difference just looking at them, much less tasting them. Same with the onion rings. They even LOOK better, and taste MUCH better. The coke is just coke tho lol.

Seriously... I will get photos one of these times. Of course that will mean getting a photo of the crappy burgers I dont like as well. Maybe ill have a friend order one and not tell him why LOL.

As to looks, I am not talking about presentation - I could care less about that. Its the obvious quality of the components that make the difference. Well that and how they are cooked. The best burger in the world is cooked Medium to Medium Rare, meaning its still red in the middle. The problem with that is that it is very dangerous to cook them that way if the kitchen is not kept properly clean, and not just the kitchen, but the hands of the workers. They have to make the burger patty, so one stray bit of bacteria and your sick. Even in the USA I was careful about where I ordered a Medium Rare burger - and many places just will not sell them - they have policies that require all burgers to be well done. Sucks. Takes all the flavor out of the meat.

Add on bacon and sauteed mushrooms and jack cheese... masterpiece.

And the meat they use is VERY good. Its either imported or created fresh by them - or at least from a different supplier than which supplies the local falang markets. I have bought hamburger from all of them at one time or another and never got that quality. Or maybe I'm just not that good a cook lol. Either way, its well worth it (to me) once in a while.

  12. I know what a burger is, pre-chewed meat, I lived in the USA more than 4 years.

Glad the Merlin hotel serves up such a good one.

Four years you should be over comparing prices with 'home'.... home is here now.

Too true... But I still make the same money I did over there, or close enough to it, so... lol. :)

I do miss some of the tastes of home tho. Would kill for a 6 pack of hard tacos from Taco Bell... or... maybe a pan of queso from Chilis... Or hell, even a waffle house omelet and hashbrowns lol. Sure you can get a omelet over here, but they do something weird to um... much different taste. Think I'll look that up actually... might be able to make one here the same way. I think they add a bit of their waffle mix and throw it in a blender first. Simple, but effective :D

But ya, this is home now. Damn I miss foreign food lol.

  13. Do you rent a motorbike? If so you will have no problem with that arrangement. Elsewise if your out past midnight it will cost you a nice chunk to get home... between 100-300 baht. ... and for that price the driver will still stop for others etc. Other then that.it is closer to a nice beach for the daytime stuff.

  14. How long have you been living in Pattaya now?

When I was living in Bangladesh my lunch cost me next to nothing, so what?

Onion rings and coke, wish I could aspire to such culinary heights.

Going on 4 years... and I wouldn't expect a Brit to understand about a burger, onion rings and a coke. Fish a chips, maybe :D

Sometimes you need the taste of home... not just a copy like you can get just about anywhere. Yes, the burger at HR is expensive as all hell, but its damn good. The only place I know in town to get a safe medium rare burger (Sure as hell wouldn't trust a medium rare burger from ANY Thai place).

Matter of fact, I might just go do that tonight. Sounds good. :)

  15. Hmm... Always gave this place a pass before. THink I will give it a go now.

AMazing how cheap some people can be. Back in the USA my friggin lunch was more than $30 every day, and dinner could push $75 depending on where. No problem at all paying $30 for a good (different) meal. Hell, I go to Hard Rock at least 1-2 times a month for one of their burgers... w/ onion rings and a coke, comes to 900 baht. Nothing wrong with that.
