    Thanks for that,

Ive mailed them last week. as I have no clue as to whether, its just a " rebooking" (with no extra fee  as the fares have no doubt gone up!) or if it means a fee must be paid on top. They asked me for the dates I wanted,,, so I messaged them today, hopefully will get a reply pronto. IF ! its just a case of no extra money on top. I may well just book it..If I have to pay a lot more money though, I may just not bother!  Will update, with what they say.

I am guessing you will have to pay the difference in fare.

I believe they have retained the 3-3-3 economy layout for the 3 new 777-300ER's.

I hope so, because I will be flying on it in July ?

Saying that, I used to love the A380, looks like they arent being used by Thai on the LHR route now.

Thai will be flying their brand new B777-300 on TG911 from Heathrow when it comes into service in the next month or 2.

Leaving Villa Market very careful at crossing the side walk to 2cd road. Once at the road all clear left/right.  Almost took out an old guy slowly riding his bicycle on the roadway the wrong way. Didnt matter right or wrong way he blended in with the parked cars.  I was to focused on the left after checking motorcycles and pedestrians.

So check left and right. Then double check and then triple check.

You need to be wary of motorbikes all the time, you'll often see them traveling the wrong direction on your side of the road and you'll often come across them at night with no lights on on rural roads.

Yep that was something I was thinking about. I am lucky to see one bike on the roads in the UK and that is normally a 500cc blasting 100 mph down the motorway.

My plan is do drive mostly at daytime and avoid driving at night.

driving an automatic is a joy i tried it in Thailand ater 30 years of driving a manual in the uk just remember you only have one leg the right one try tucking your left away hardly  use park or neutral just held it in rive using the brake makes it a lot easier drove rom Pattaya to Kanchanaburi also Phetchabun long drive over 8 hours each way good tip for motorway highway driving stay in lane two or 3 asyou will find the inside lane is damaged a lot by all the hgvs also at most left turn junctions you can turn on red as long as its safe to do  also i you need car hire in Pattaya https://expatcarrent.com/ is highly recommended english speaking great service ...

    Thanks for the tips.

The quality of the roads sound like my local roads, so they shouldn't be a problem.

I will be renting the car from budget thailand as I will be collecting it at the airport. When I did my research there seems to be a lot of rental companies in udon thani both international and local companies.

  7. All you need is to have your wits about you and constantly check the mirrors and look left.

My journeys when in udon thani will most likely be travelling on the highway and the odd dash around udon city.

Another thing will have to get use to is driving an automatic car. I have never driven one and I assume its a lot simpler to drive. Just have to get use to neutral, park, drive and reverse.

One thing is Thais give way to the left whereas in Oz and I presume England we give way to the right. Remember that if at a roundabout.

So if I am on the roundabout, I would have to give way to someone that wants to join on it?

I watched a video on YouTube and the "Youtuber" did say that when on a motorway you have to look out to left and if a car or truck via into your lane from the left and hits you. You are to blame.

Rules are quite similar so you will be OK. Make sure you take a few 100 baht notes to settle any on the spot fines you may get.

Other than that enjoy the drive. I do Pattaya to Udon Than and return most trips by car and enjoy it.

Thanks for the tip. I think it would be nice to drive long distances like pattaya to udon and make several stops on the way. If I had longer time there it would certainly be something that would do.

  10. On my next trip to Thailand in July. I am going to visit Udon Thani for 1 week. I have made a car hire reservation for the week. I have never drove a car in Thailand. The only advantage that I have is the UK and Thailand drive on the same side of the road.

My question is, is there any rules that I need to know while driving in Thailand. One thing I frequently see is drivers turning left while the lights are on red. Any other hints and tips that can be shared will be a appreciated

  11. The airfares for MEA certainly have gone up in price. I am travelling in July and usually fly with Emirates or etihad. Their prices for the dates I fly are over £900 return and the flight times are that good either.

I decided to book a BA flight from MAN to LHR and then booked thai airways. Paid £630 return and have great flight times. The only downfall to the bookings is if I miss the BA flight or the Thai flight is late then I have to come up with a plan B.

Back in the day when British Midland was under star alliance (later to be absorbed into BA and lose that status) it allowed a one ticket booking/ checked through baggage etc with a connecting Thai Airways out of LHR.

Even then it would have been a brave man who booked without allowing the potential of a scheduled 'safety' flight to LHR between the one booked and the Thai Airways departure from LHR. As the delays / cancellations of these domestic shuttles were pathetic.

With separate bookings and hauling luggage around LHR / re check-in, the risk is magnified.

All that said I'm surprised nothing suitable with middle east airlines (I'm doing MCR to Thailand with Etihad in a couple of days time)

I was surprised thai never had a code share with flybe when they was operating. They do have code share flights with luftansa, Swiss, Austrian, Brussels and SAS from MAN. But they always seems to expensive compared to MEA in normal times and the flight times.

Well good luck.... I took transiting through LHR off the menu many years ago due to many stressful experiences. The shuttles between LHR and Manchester are late so often. The only acceptable way for me was a T5-T5 transfer......(ie BA, and they are awful). Sorry to hear the alternatives are not up and running, Etihad, Emirates, Oman etc. It is some years since I did it but my last one was Qatar in Biz Class, which was ok.

I took the potential for the BA flight to be late so I booked the 7am flight. My connecting flight isn't until 12.30.

  14. I have booked Thai Airways for my flight in July from London. I have booked direct with the airline and used a CC for added protection.

I usually fly from Manchester with a ME airline, but at the moment there doest seem to be any decent flights from Manchester with any airline (except Qatar but I will never but myself through a stint on one of their B787-8 again).

I still am starting my journey from Manchester as I have booked BA to get to me to Heathrow. Under normal circumstances I would never book two separate tickets, but thought it would be easier to fly to Heathrow than rely on a train to Euston and then a trek across London and potentially missing the last train back. I have left myself 3 hours between flights.

  15. I agree avoiding that dredded AVOD box is very important. But the problem with Qatar's B777-8 was not just the pitch of the seat, its also the width. It ranges from 16.89 inches to 17.28 inches. I must of sat in the 16.89 inch seat. I can still feel the passengers elbow that sat next to me digging into the side of my body.

I've just booked a trip and for my dates QR28 is showing operated by a 787-9 MAN-DOH and a 777-300ER on QR27 when I return...

I'm wondering if the newer 787-9's are an improvement over their 787-8's....

I have noticed when searching December flights from MAN that qatar seem to be using the 777 on the DOH-MAN.

From reviews I have read the 787-9 as the same economy pitch and width as the 787-8.
