  1. "Flatbread" means unleavened bread. If the bread is unleavened it's called a taco, souvlaki,or (a term I hate for some reason) a wrap. Sandwiches are typically made with leavened bread.
  2. Hi gents, Heading back to the real world (Pattaya, where the women can see how hansum I am) next week. I'll be joined by a few friends later on who've been to Thailand many times. I've been asked to find a restaurant that serves Thai curries made without coconut milk. I read somewhere that Thai curries used to have no coconut milk, they were thickened with the spices themselves. But coconut milk is a cheap filler so it is used widely even though it is not "the real deal." So two questions: Do you know of any restaurants that serve a good Thai curry without coconut milk? Co
  3. RMPM became a fave of mine last year. Deffo plan to go back at least once before I head back to Bizarro World.
  4. Finally found Jim's Burger. Across from Differ Disco on the soi behind Big C in North Pattaya. Portions are generous. I ordered the small burger and small fries and couldn't finish either. I had the honey burger which was delicious -- I ordered the patty well done and it was nice and tasty with no chunks of gristle. But because it was so big it was sloppy, as it was piled so high the lettuce spilled out in one direction and the tomato the other. The whole wheat bun was delicious. The fries, though served in a cute little individual fryer, were bland and disappointing. I didn't see the
  5. Did Obama ask for extra arugula and kale on his burger?
  6. There's a 'watch movies free' thing too but you have to download some software. Any problems with that? Sincerely, A. Luddite
  7. It made it look to me like the joint was on or near Second Road. Never mind, I'll go looking for it sometime next week.
  8. So the map posted above is rather misleading. The way to find it on foot is: Walk out from Big C to Soi Pettrakun, at the back of Big C (east end), and hang a left. Walk past Differ pub (which is on the opposite side of the street from Jim's). Jim's Burgers will be on your left.
  9. So I got the name and the soi wrong, but otherwise a bang-up report, right?
  10. Looks like EP is right. They don't cross but kiss in the middle like two circonflexes.
  11. Went looking for this joint but blown if I could find it. I ended up hiking back to Big C and eating at OMG Burger inside the "Marina" or whatever they call it. Will sally forth another day.
  12. I stumbled in there about midnight so I think he's prepared to stay open till the wee hours. Next time I'm in I'll ask.
  13. White Pine Cone is a new Italian-ish joint on soi 15 off Walking Street. Perfect for a nosh after a good pissup. Naturally, it's open late to catch the poonhound crowd. I ordered the pesto and cashew nut fettucine. The pesto sauce was rich and the garlic bread that came with it was really garlicky, made with garlic butter not the diced raw garlic often seen in Thailand. A simple dish but nicely prepared and presented. Best of all, the whole meal set me back an astonishing 117 baht! I drank water but with a beer you would be looking at just over 200 baht I believe. Drop in and support a
  14. A Thai gentleman has just opened a restaurant on soi 15, just past where it crosses soi 14 off of Walking Street. What I've seen so far at White Pine Cone is quite promising. White Pine Cone is a small affair, an air-conditioned singlewide shophouse. The menu is broadly Italian, with pastas and sandwiches. Being unusually sober after a night at Baby Dolls, I dropped in on my way home and ordered the pesto and cashew nut fettucine. The pesto sauce was rich and the garlic bread that came with it was really garlicky, made with garlic butter not the diced raw garlic often seen in Thailand.
  15. Looks fantastic. I kinda find those super-stacked burgers hard to eat, though. I think if I had the burger with the onion ring and bacon I would divide it along the axial plane and eat it as two open-faced sandwiches. Think I'll give it a shot this weekend!
  16. What happens if you front up at the airport and you're a day or two past your 90-day reporting day? Is there a fine?
  17. The good thing about being absent-minded is that on Easter morning, you can hide your own Easter eggs. Remember that one for next year.
  18. Well, at least they've stopped attributing it to John Cleese. He was getting some very angry e-mail before he announced that he had nothing to do with it.
  19. I haven't heard of any barnstormer flooding in downtown Pattaya. not the wade-through-the-snakes kind of flooding. I doubt the infrastructure is any better. I guess we've been lucky.
