To agree with torrenova, the room service is nothing to write home about, but the breakfast is pretty decent, and reasonably priced... though I am sure you can get cheaper, I am glad to pay the extra 30-40 baht on the morning of a horrid hangover to not have to leave the confines of the hotel. Also to second torrenova again... there are plenty of other options for food at the RG because of the good size fridge, hot plate, etc. My TG got a couple of kilos of fruit from Big C for us to snack on, along with various candies, etc., which carried us through the night.. not to mention that there

Anyone know of any cheap flights in sept
randolpho2 replied to andy617's topic in Airline Discussion
Just FYI guys, a LOT of the UA flights to BKK that are showing for Sept-Nov are utilizing the new ORD-KIX (Osaka) transpacific route; the price is basically the same if not a bit cheaper than the NRT connection ($750-$850 for me from ORD depending on dates) but the KIX flight is always on a 777, which in my book is a bit more comfortable than the 747 to Narita. Be careful in booking though... the KIX connections are lumped together with either JAL or Thai flights into BKK... with some of the Thai flights, I have seen an 11 hour layover in KIX, which I would have to imagine would suck in the mi -
Also, I forgot to mention, make sure the boss realizes that he will have to pick up his checked bags at Gatwick, and recheck them at the ticket counter for whichever airline he decides on. EasyJet doesn't do any kind of checkthrough service, and they have no airline alliances (Much akin to Southwest Airlines here in the States) Just FYI Randy

Just to clarify, that price that I quoted for Easyjet in the earlier post was Edinburgh-Gatwick.. it would be a real bugger to get to Heathrow, but there are a few airlines that utilize Gatwick for the NYC flights. 35 Baht happy hour at Peppermints... hmmm.. I wonder what exactly you can get for 35 baht?
-
I would look at taking EasyJet to London (as low as 14 quid return + taxes for Sept.), and then hopping across the pond.. there are SO many deals on that route (LON-NYC), especially in the autumn, that it would have to be worthwhile to investigate IMO. Not to mention the fact that Continental flies into Newark, NJ which in and of itself can be a royal pain in the arse. Happy flying! Randy

Just to add my two baht, I just stayed in the Residence Garden for my first trip, May 20-26 and it was excellent. The security guard at night is hilarious, and knows how to joke around with you... very laid back, and does a good job. The mid-day to evening crew is equally as good, make an effort to talk with Gai at the bar... conversations with her are worth the trip alone, once you get her going. One and only complaint is the overnight receptionist who was very dry, though she never gave us a problem with our TGs. Nothing but business, would not smile, and didn't have much of a sense of humor

I just got back from Pattaya... and obviously was there during Cobra Gold. For the most part, everyone was well behaved (as you can be in PTY) and having a good time, though there were the small groups of GIs that were real pricks, barging past and bumping into people along Walking Street and Beach Road. As far as the BG scene went, the GoGo's picked up a little once the soldiers were there, but the Beer Bars stayed pretty much same same from what I could tell... Everyone is right about the average age coming down quite a bit though! All and all, a good experience, though not too much of an ov

I booked my May '04 trip with about 2 weeks adv. purchase on United out of SFO for $650 (Tax incl.)... looking now for beginning of September, and I am finding fares around $750 for pretty much anywhere in the midwest on United. My home airport is Memphis, TN which NEVER typically has good deals, but United has been pretty cheap recently... all things considered.

Just had to toss in my two baht... Alex met us the week before last as scheduled, even waiting for my sorry bum to come in on a 30 min. later flight than my mates. All of this along with cold Heinekens which we requested and a no-hassle piss/smoke break. Sounds to me like it is just another one of those hit-and-miss things... if only it wasn't so drastically hit-and-miss it would be okay. But, I can attest that he does do friendly, quick driving... when he shows up. Randy

That sounds fantastic! I will definitely check the Seagull out.. all of you guys are awesome, thanks so much for your help!

Is the Sugar Hut near the RG?
-
It is actually pretty good stuff, if it is anything like alligator meat. There is a place in Arkansas that I have been to a couple of times, and they have Popcorn Gator.. not bad, but could use a side of Vegemite ;D

Thanks for the info! Maybe Australian cuisine is like what we get at Outback? ;D Now get ready, 3....2....1.... Flame War! ;D

Hey guys! 27 days and counting, and I am very restless waiting for my virgin trip to LOS. I would love recommendations for a nice seafood restaurant to have a good semi-upscale meal at when I am in Pattaya. I know that there are probably several, but just looking for some favorites, and recommendations. If this would be better suited in another thread, please let me know... I appreciate everyone's help! Randy

I apologize for what is I am sure an oft reviewed topic, but with only 30+ days to go, I have to ask. I am going to be in Pattaya, but have the legendary and regrettable 6:00am flight to Tokyo to catch upon my departure back to the real world. My question is, is there a cheap yet safe hotel within reasonable distance of BKK airport. This will be my final day, and I am sure funds will be running low, so I don't think the availability of TGs will be a big deal. I just want cheap, close, and safe. Links to previous topics would be appreciated, as your help always is. Thanks for pity on a

;D My final price for dep. on 11/24/03 ended up being $635 inclusive R/T LEX-BKK. I booked on QIXO. Thanks everyone for all of your help! I look forward to finally meeting everyone!

I agree! Airlines never cease to amaze me... in hunting around for my trip in November, I found $1100 fares with Delta/Korean out of CVG and SDF, which are both under 100 miles from me, but my home airport LEX has the fare for $850 on United for LEX-ORD-NRT-BKK... lot of connections, but worth it for saving $250, parking, and an hour's drive IMO. But then again... I am a pretty cheap Charlie. ;D

Actually revise my previous post... $549 + tax from LAX-SFO-HNL, $75 add on from JFK.
-
Hello everyone! Just saw a deal for R/T air JFK-SFO-LAX-HNL to BKK and 5 nights hotel in BKK for $599 + tax. I have used go-today for travel into LHR twice, and have never been disappointed. It's sounds like a good deal for me, even just using the hotel night prior to departure. Striving to keep you informed! randolpho2 "Uber-Newbie" Who knew November in LOS could be so far away?

Total newbie airline question here... but has anyone had any good fare luck out of the Central US? I am within striking distance of Detroit and Chicago for under $100 on Southwest, and then on from there... Is the cheapest route typically to go SWA to the west coast and then long haul from there? I really appreciate any help!
