To me the remarkable thing is dramatic improvement can be made in air quality and general well being. When i was a young kid the sides of main roads and interstate highways were littered with a foot of trash. Then laws enacted and enforced, an ad campaign had an American Indian standing by a road side, tear running down his face looking at the mess.  Private companies formed adopt a highway where they cleaned portions.

At one point we had rivers catching fire. The Clean Air act of 50 years seems to have worked. Particulate matter has been reduced by 40-70%, lead reduction 90%.    Not at all suggesting "Global Warming " can be dealt with by a single country, region or Greta's whining, but Thailand seems to be able to reverse its current trend of air pollution if there was a genuine commitment.  But ill add the obvious caveat before someone else does. TIT.

It is a task of another magnitude to stop using fossil fuels.
Let us hope we succeed in that task as our ancestors succeeded in big transformations before.

  2. I think you're thinking of the TM6, which is no longer used.
Whenever you stay at a new address the landlord, hotel or guesthouse owner needs to report your stay via the TM30. It's their responsibility, but you'll get tagged for the fine if you go to immigration for an extension to stay and they find the TM30 has not been filed.
The problem has been some landlords refuse to do the TM30 leaving you to handle the report. It can be done in person at immigration, but for owners there is an online system they can use. What's new is immigration has reconginzed the need for an online system for guests to self-report.
Most would agree this is a redundant requirement as we're already doing a 90 day report of our address. Bureaucracy at its best.
Can this new system be used to report if you are staying in your own condo?
Which documents do you need for this?

  3. It's hot as anything out there...wandering in the Mall is a cooler option... and has its attractions. There are some babes about..an old man can dream.20230820_111005.thumb.jpg.d23e1aab6c7f59e41f85a2679513136b.jpg

That is true in many of the places we live. In Pattaya a mature man (with some money) can do a lot more than dreaming.
Just ask my role models Bushcraft and Teelack.

  4. Luckily the rate I get with Wise for DKK is better than what the exchange places will pay.
They don't really want DKK (or Swedish or Norwegian money) any more.
This is because the banks here are demanding too much documentation for where the money comes from when the exchange services bring the Scandinavian currencies back to here.
The (for us travelers sad) ironi is that the hard money laundering rules came after some of the bigger banks got caught earning big profits for laundering money for East European and Russian organized criminals.
Ahh well - we can bring Euro and get a decent rate.

  5. It happens every year,it coincides with the low season for tourists. We all then get exited and book flights for next winter.Come the high season or when I arrive on my annual trip, it does a switcheroo and my Euro turns to dust.Every effing year it's the same.I have just spent €2400 on flights and hotels for january.youll all see.

Then buy your baht now if you think you know this is the best time.

  6. The dispensaries are too expensive for anyone but the tourist market.  Thais order online where prices are much lower.  I also order online, quality herb for less than half price because I order larger quantities.  Free shipping and in my mailbox the next day.
Can we get some links for good online sellers?

The family home in Annapolis is paying 3400 baht equivalent/month for internet and TV with less tv than i get here with IPTV.

Most if not all of the IPTV sellers are selling pirated TV. It is hardly surprising that the people not breaking the intellectual property laws cannot compete with that.

I would also use IPTV if I lived in Thailand but here in Denmark they hand out some nasty bills/fines if they catch you using pirated IPTV or using pirated downloads.

  8. Covid was naturally hard for Pattaya like it was for many places. But saying that it "knocked the life out of Pattaya" is in my opinion very exaggerated.

I think Pattaya is well on the way back BUT the development that started LONG before Covid changing Pattaya to cater more for Chinese and Indians and other Asians is continuing.

It was the same four weeks ago but only in the weekend. This time it has been since Thursday.

I know. What I don't know is the reason. It is not happening to the SEK and they are almost as vulnerable to the energy prices as us. And Belgium and Italy is more exposed than we are.

  10. Traffic was bad around Pratumnak yesterday. Bolt giving 15 minute plus wait times for cars but taking longer as traffic gridlocked. A couple of guys I know wanted to drive from Cosy Beach to the Irish Wolfhound on Soi 4 for Sunday lunch but turned around and ate locally. The road down to the yacht club, Three Mermsids, Sky Gallery etc was  gridlocked most of the afternoon.
    What was the reason?
Was Thepraya towards Pattaya also jammed?
