  1. Was at Cherry Bar with a few mates a couple years back when a snake man came in looking for customers.

Don't know what it was with one of my mates...maybe his cologne...but the big snake opened his mouth, exposed his fangs and made a lunge at my mate just missing his nose....never seen anything like that before.

  2. I'm currently looking around for a new option for a month long visit.

In the past I've used Pattaya Bay Resort a few times and although the price was OK...approx 20k +utilities, I found the standard room to be tiny and the hotel to be a bit off the beaten track...especially when the heavy rain started, you were basically stuck there until it stopped.

I've also used Metro Apts a few times but with Submarine right next door now and music blaring at max volume until late-late...I don't think Metro Apts or LK in general is the right option for me.

I've also bitten the bullet a few times on a 29 night trip and paid a standard rate with discount of 1290 at the Sandy on soi 13...but that's just being stupid as the bill before mini-bar comes out around $1300 USD.

Was looking at the Golden Crab...but, I don't know, that still comes out at 25-30K baht.

Anyone ever stay at those serviced apartments at the corner of Beach Road and soi 10?

What are your fave hotels for long time stay?...thanks, in advance, for your response.

  3. Thanks for letting me know what middens are!

If indeed you do get them, giant prawns and scallops (a favourite of mine), at 300 that is still pretty good..... do they ration these expensive items?

Perhaps when Gabor went it was one of these basic pork BBQs where you cook your own entrails and can dump lettuce and cabbage in the soup...... crap.

I do a seafood meal weekly and 2 persons with a big Leo for me normally just under 1000 or just over. That is outside town, I gave up on the over the sea tourist traps when they started taking the piss, and 10 baht for a cold wipe.

You should give it a shot...we ate for a couple of hours...there was no end to the food...I think they had ice cream and some other type of desert, but I never got to it...we shared 6 big bottles of San Miguel with 2 or 3 buckets of ice as well...my portion of the bill including tip was approx 800b...it was a great feed...

I think I saw you in Eagle bar on the afternoon of the big water day on the 19th...but, I may have been mistaken...:)

  4. False.... Somtam 30 baht already 10 year..... I eat it often....

A year ago it was 105 baht.....

I doubt they would serve the common folk all you can eat mini lobsters (middens) and giant prawns, scallops and all the other food for 105b...but, maybe they knew you as the celebrity you are and cut you a deal.

  5. a friend took me to Ninja BBQ on 3rd Road a couple of weeks back...it was awesome...I think it was 300b all you can eat seafood...prawns, middens (that were just fabulous), chicken, pork and vegetables...his girl cooked most of it right at our table...we ate for a good 2 hours.

they get you on the beer and ice though...was a great time and the best meal I can ever remember eating in Pattaya.

  6. Great location and never had a problem with service there and prices are reasonable for a western place.

    FL???? Dogs mostly.

My experience is that a good percentage of both the afternoon and evening waitress staff and female bartenders are freelancers, and many of them are attractive...if they like you, you'll be able to set up a rendezvous.

edit...I better clarify myself...it's not soi 6, the wait staff and bar staff are working a job...be polite, respectful and above all, discreet...they will let you know soon enough if they want to fuck you.

  7. Haven has been dropped now. The waiting staff from the Haven refused to bring the food around to the hotel foyer! Hardly surprising to anyone who dines in the Haven, where a couple of the miserable cows seem loath to even bring the food to their own tables!

Haven't had any problems with the wait staff at the Haven...

one of the girls that works there and is a nice enough girl, brings her 2 year old daughter to work each day and the kid runs around the tables snatching the breakfast from yer plate...

the kid grabbed a piece of toast off my plate one morning...which was no problem... but, I was concerned she might loose a tooth if she tried to eat it.

  8. I wonder if we crossed paths before dude. I've been a semi-loyal customer for over ten years now, and have seen the price nearly double since my first stay. That said, I understand enough about the economics. I've ceaselessly promoted the hotel to newbies on the board, and aside from one disaster stay with construction and a nasty respiratory infection from air con water I've had fabulous experiences.

Last year I got the member card, for the discount, literally buying into the scheme. I stay in top floor sea view deluxe, and love the view and sunsets from the balcony. Have not found a comparable hotel which "ticks all the boxes".

Making the reservation for my upcoming trip, I'm offered 1600 per night for the deluxe sea view with the VIP membership.

So, please, in all earnestness, all of you who say there are better places for less, please let me know. These are my minimal requirements.

    1) Pool

    2) Balcony with seaview

    3) One block from beach rd

    4) Cable

    5) Room service

    6) Guest friendly

    7) Lobby or room safe.

    8) Wi Fi

I keep hearing BM's say there are better deals for the money, so please respond and tell us where, and how much, and what amenities.

    OBLA DEE BROS

right on the money with yer assessment Desmond.

I've been staying at the Sandy for many years and always enjoyed the place.

Since the Sandy would never discount their fees for long term stays I tried other places that did. I enjoyed some places like the Metro Apts (top notch place esp Room #1) and Pattaya Bay Resort that did offer long term deals and I didn't enjoy some other guest houses and hotels, which will remain nameless...but, I always came back to the Sandy.

booked a standard for me upcoming holiday at 1390 member rate...I think that rate might be up 200b max from 8-10 years ago...clean as a whistle the Sandy is and about as safe as safe can be...they have always employed a fabulous staff that is eager to help you any time they can. I love the place.

  9. I may have miss something. I didn't see the 7th night free on there web site, re-check the web site, nothing.

I just booked the monthly rate for Songkran 2012. I figure the monthly cost and electricty will be 19000/bt.

Yes I'll have to pay for breakfast but that's ok. When I get tired of there menu, or wake up late I can go somewhere

else for a varity. Also I seldom keep a BF till breakfast so the 2'fr coupons doesn't work for me..

The next thing I noticed. Well... here is what my Resv says.. " Please note our credit card guarantee requirements below. We will hold this reservation for you for 48 hours to give you time to respond", a credit card is required to hold a room.. yikes.. Ok.. says its secure.. so you have to I cut and paste the link.. the page does not have the little "secure lock" on the end of the IP address that I'm used to.. humm.. on the bottom of the page it says "All information is transmitted via a secure and encrypted network". Check it out http://www.jotform.c...orm/81674253712 . Have my fingers crossed and its the only time I have

used this card.. Another thing I noticed, on there web site extra days used to be quoted at 500/bt day, off season. Now the rate says extra days will be pro-rated.

Both daily and monthly rate plans they now want full payment at check in.

With the new management things are starting to change. I hope they don't run off there regulars.

I remember having to pay in full for the monthly rate at checkin 2 or 3 years ago...you're not missing anything on that breakfast deal either....eat where you want, when you want to.

on the charge card thingee...just monitor your activity daily...I think you'll be OK as I've used charge cards there b/4 with no problem...just don't give them your CID#...I hear there are some new apartments going up next door...so, late sleeping is out.

  10. I got the information from the hotel saying it's now accesible from Beach Rd. But not from 2nd Rd, and she couldn't tell when or approx when it would be.

Unless 2nd Rd is reachable by foot (or take a motorbike taxi) it makes it a bit tricky If going to soi Diana/soi LK Metro or soi Buakaw. Quite a luxury

    problem, but still ...

you can always walk to Beach Road, turn left and cut through Tip Plaza back up to 2nd rd...not much of a walk really as See Me is a wee bit closer to the beach than 2nd Road.

  11. I used to fly Eva Sam...but, I've found...for me... Cathay Pacific to be a better all around experience...Cathay's entertainment system is top drawer with over a 100 on demand movies in coach, full seasons of TV shows and all other entertainment stuff...the food is heaps better than Eva too..."Do you want the fish heads and rice or the hot dog with scrambled eggs?"..:puke ....plus, with Cathay you fly into Hong Kong and it's only a two hour hop to Bkk....they also have a early evening flight out of Bkk...roughly 18:00...that turns your last night in town into a real last night in town.

    cheers.
