I always find it amusing when based on one person's great experience with a business, any others that report a negative experience are discounted and their reports classified as "myths".

A data point of one is statistically irrelevant.

    Force

I "doubt" very much if this is anyone (on any forum) who has done more London Bangkok round tickets  with a fair proportion on staff tickets and a few booked direct with airline down the decades

At least of the overall total I'd say a minimum 100 have been "agent" tickets. Never once have I had a problem. Not once. Have they all been booked with one single agent...nope far from it

When I have had issues or want changes did the agent deal very effectively with the requests....yep each and every time

The problem with what you (and others say) is invariably we always only (in the main) hear the bad experiences (doesnt matter what the subject matter is the same scenario applies)

100/100 succesful bookings is some five star rating am sure you agree

If peoiple want to book direct crack on and pay more but with none of the benefits of an agent if things go awry with a booking

Out of interest 1 month after contacting an airline direct over a minor issue am still waiting for a response from their registered Twitter and FB messenger accounts after it transpired they closed their phonelines at weekends.....it took my agent in March who really shouldnt have needed to get involved just 22 minutes to respond and sort)

As Trink would have said.....further words are superfluous

  2. I've been looking at one way tickets out start of October time which apart from Air India who have some promotion on via Delhi and Bombay on their new Dreamliners and A350's (around £310) are roughly the same as I paid October 2023 for one way around £380 to £400.....I would expect that to drop nearer the time though

But its the round trip prices that have dropped....I was going to put uploads of screenshots but instead with list a few returning end of March 2025

Eva the cheapest I've seen for a long time £664

Singapore at £605 and I saw fairly recently those at £560.....standard connections 2 hours or so

Malaysian at £570 normal connections 2 hours

Saudia at £568...slightly longer connections although they have short connection at enhanced price

Swiss/Austrian code share at £550...extremely short connections (40 minutes on Austrian the minimum allowable)

    Plenty more

All agent prices and make no apologies for always using them lol

  3. Dont carry Power packs when you go through transit. No matter what the size they get confiscated. I thought it may have only been the day I transitted very recently but have read multiple reports of the same issue since then

Seeing as its forbidden to put in checked luggage its a pain in the arse

On an aside the airport was deserted at around 1am nothing was open and only 2 flights leaving one of which was ours to London

  4. Related to the thread.

2 years ago I got referred to local hospital in UK as a brown mark/mole had appeared on face  (I heavily stay in the sun I freely acknowledge)

Dr wasnt happy so within 4 days (fair play NHS) i'm up the skin clinic. Intially Dr says not quite sure let me call in senior consultant

Duly turns up 20 minutes later gets his magnifying glass out and says nahh its ok its not melanoma but "keep an eye on it any changes let us know"

Whilst it looked quite prominent (to me) nobody has ever commented over it including 2 guys on this forum

Fast forward to 4 days ago and a crust has formed. Shit I think so Friday call Drs who again act swiftly and say go up Tuesday (tomorrow) to skin clinic again

Wake up this morning go to shave look in mirror and WTF....its gone completely disappeared overnight I cant even see where it was the skin is completely clear lol

I message Drs again who rang me an hour later (fair play to my surgery) and Dr says "what do you mean its gone" lol

"Exactly what I've just said" I say politely.

"So it was there yesterday but its gone today" she adds clearly sceptical lol

    "Yes" I say "its gone"

Pause of about 5 seconds...."ok if it reappears let us know"  😁😁

That was that and appointment cancelled tomorrow lol....

The prices Skyscanner showed were all via agencies, not the Arline sites. They all seem to get negative reviews, customer service non existent etc etc.I only book on the airlines sites.High season prices December to March are brutal,no idea if they will come down but EVA only have flights from Schiphol 3 days a week.KLM daily but they are always expensive,ok if you only have hand luggage are prepared to gamble on where you seat. I'll be 73 by the time I fly in January I need an aisle seat.My prostate and sciatica nerve demand I move a lot.

Just go on to Travel Supermarket

See the flights you want and click through. It tells you what baggage is included.

If you then insist on paying more for your flight then go direct to the airline site and book there !!

How come I've never had a single problem using agents lol.....when I have needed to get hold of customer service their responses have been superb and proactive (and I needed that service as recently as March when the airline itself didnt answer via Twitter Facebook Email and offices closed at weekends to phone calls.....22 minutes it took for Travel Trolley to respond to my subsequent email after their own office opened at 9am UK time on a Saturday)

This internet "myth" that somehow its better to book direct with the airlines has somehow turned into an internet "fact" this last 25 years

Its wrong on so many levels.......you take Southall Travel. Now I use one of their 5 seperate online agents. Can you only imagine how much business they give as consolidators to all airlines every single day ?? 1000s of booked flights daily and then some. Now why would an airline piss off these guys by not responding immediately to any queries they have ??

    in short they dont.

Utter myth that booking direct is better. Plus inavriably it costs more

For my dates only two Saudi and one Cathay Pacific flights show under €1000.That's via Skyscanner, not sure if that's with hold luggage and seat choice.

Saudi included checked bag on pricing I gave above. No idea on seat selection. I always wait until online check in opens and select aisle seat without paying any airline

Never sat anywhere other than aisle. Check in block off seats in advance knowing only to well people will ask at check in. Nothing is likely to piss off a passenger more than being told at check in middle seat only (if you're arriving 3 hours early) and airlines want you to fly with them again rather than going elsewhere next time

Edited in...Yes Cathay includes 1 checked bag or at least from London

  7. I'm looking to go start of October and come back end of March 2025

Saudi keep popping up at around £560 slightly longer transit times than I'd normally do but on 6 month trip no real issue (or least obviously outbound !)

Eva is popping up around £690 using Travel Supermarket

Not too many carriers showing at the moment as most (but not all) dont quote until the return sector is within 330 days of the current date

Might just do what I did this year and one way out and sort out teturn next year

  8. ......and thats why I wanted it left on the main board

Seriously the board can go 24 hours without a post in the main sub forum so I start a thread (certainly 100% relevant to myself) I ask for it to be left there if possible (clearly politely) and yet minutes later its moved quite deliberately

AJ if that was subtle pop it went over my shoulder and is currently floating down the English Channel

I'll ask the question elsewhere instead where I should have put it in the first place.....disappointing

  9. Move the thread if you think appropriate but leave here if possible for now

Am looking to update a Sim from Truemove which is still "live" or replace it with DTAC or AIS

Simply looking for monthly deals on data....not on calls whatsoever

Fot yonks I was using a short code on True which was an "always on" unlimited data connection and around 212 Baht for a month.....speed was throttled after 1GB was reached but it didnt matter as was only used for Messaging Email etc etc

What have you guys got. Am not interested in going Lazada or anything like that just a simple short code....now True still have deals on website but much much higher monthly cost now for anything with decent speed.....Multiple times I read elsewhere of 15 speed downloads unlimited data for a month for around 200 Baht !!  No sod wants to tell you what it is though  (does it exist !)

As I intended to use it for a bit of streaming and maybe "tether" clearly I need more than a heavily throttled speed which that existing plan is

    Any suggestions ??  Thanks

THAT IS TAKING THE PISS . I wanted a return and that was what I was quoted. I will have to look closer in future . But last time I flew with them the £380 - £420 was the price I was paying.

No problem.....its an extremely deceptive way of pricing when it "lands" like that

My original screenshot I had cut off the dates which included the return. Only when I clicked through does it become clear that the price is only for outbound sector

    Very deceptive

(PS someone tell that Pensioner with the Thai Wife that always flys Qatar that I know its always him with the childish emoji)

Just go on Qatar air web site and put in, 10 May to 10 June. I did try to copy the page, but it did not work. prices are from £377.88 and up business £1683.32, and first £3499. These are the lowest prices I could find on that site I have not even tried the cheap ticket mobs as yet.

These prices are from London Gatwick.

On looking further there is a £1575 business fare but on a 22 hour total flight

Great find Sinbin am astonished at those fares and thought at first there has to be extras on that but you can see from screenshot 25kgs bag included etc

10/5 to 10/6 departing Gatwick which even more astonishingly is a Saturday on the inbound

Edited.....I cant get anywhere near that same days using my preferred agent in fact its £573 with Singapore.....!!

Thats a fantastic price in the current climate. Its got to be a promotion by Qatar and fair play to them

I have done a little more research on prices and for a month in May-June the prices on Qatar are from £380 to £410, so a massive saving on the £1000 quid for this month . I still can't fathom why this is so much different.

Sinbin where are you seeing Qatar sub £420 for May/June ??

    Samui 2100m = 6889 ft.

    Skiathos  1628m = 5341 ft.

What makes Skiathos even more dangerous is the huge slope and the fact its water and the runway literally metres apart.....theres no threshold so to speak

They take off  in same direction they land and the pilot of our TUI aircraft came on to pre warn there would be a lot of noise pre the aircraft moving on its take off roll......because of additional slope issues they have to spool the engines as high as they dare whilst still holding it on the brakes

Then they let it go.....at the top end there is a sheer drop into the sea

  14. I did laugh reading this over the Skiathos low landings in Greece.....

I went there in 2015 with one of my own lads and we stood at the end of the runway by the water one afternoon.....stand on me its makes the low landing and jet wash blasts at St Maarten in the Caribbean seem like a nursey outing in comparison

Watch and enjoy the bystanders shit themselves.....

After first part watch it from 1.30 for side view lol which is even more revealing how low the motor was

  15. I thought fares would be be coming down on that November month long trip as more airlines come back online. The Fuel issue despite what many claim is not the sole reason and Avgas is hedged typically a year in advance

Fares have stayed high to say the least with transit times obscene because of lack of seats/flights

Eva is coming out cheapest virtually every time astonishing for a non stop trip when traditionally they were always more expensive
