  1. I dont apologise to anyone because on the date I checked (see my post) the changeover time were horrendous. You can see the timings on my post

and to be honest even looking at Skyscanner prices today most and I say most not all flights have horrendous changeover times. I stick with my original statement but you can continue arguing if it pleases you.

What are you talking about ??

    Horrendous ??

1 hours 5 minutes oiutbound and 1 hour 40 minutes inbound.... be hard to find better ones

In all the cheap SIA flights I have checked its between 12 and 24 hours changeover, because everything depends on the timing of the Sin to BKK flight.

Having just checked SIA on Skyscanner, there is not ONE cheap SIA flight with a changeover either way less than 17 hours.

I have been double jabbed and I will be happier when I have the booster in the Autumn.

November 9th ish is when I would like to go to Thailand, fortunately I can leave it until late September early October before I decide if a trip is feasible.

If not then the alternatives will have to be considered.

Pretty much the same as me me mate. Hope the Baht is still low

  5. That's so cool. back in the late 70s I suffered a badly torn retina after a car smash. I had an operation to try and repair the retina which Included putting something called a dissolving 'Boat' into my eye to hold the retina in place against the back of the eye. It was the most painful 2 months of recovery I have ever suffered and the operation didn't work. when I went back to the Hospital I asked them if they had taken the outboard off the boat before they shoved it into my eye!.

The retina in my left eye has now slowly folded down and I lost the vision in it. But its incredible how ones brain makes up for the loss. To be hones I just dont realise I can only see out of one eye, except when trying to see something in 3D which just doesn't work with one eye.

So we now have the situation that there is quite a good chance that any one of us could have Covid-19 and not suspect it. Suppose we set about travelling to Thailand. There is a much increased risk that we will fail one of the several Covid-19 tests that the Thais will require of us, and then have to suffer the consequences of that.

I wouldnt worry about that, the way the new variants are appearing I doubt Thailand will open to anyone untill at least next year (if then)

  8. Since the announcement of a possible extension to Southampton runway and also the purchase of Bournemouth airport who says he may increase flights, there has been a huge increase in advertised fares from Southampton to Bangkok, via Paris, Amsterdam, and Finland. Adding it all up its going to be cheaper (though longer) to fly from Southampton. I know there's some horrendous change times but that doesn't bother me that much as I read a lot. But pricewise and time from house time its going to be cheaper when I take into account Heathrow long term parking, fuel and driving time. To Southampton, for me, its only a short hop.

I'm going out to Bangkok and New Zealand in October so will update then (if I'm still alive)

    @Goldpanner, Southampton's runway is too short for a 777 !

Just snooping around the forum and found this.

Twould seem that Southampton is enlarging its runway

I also heasrd rumours about them buying or attempting to buy some of the land to the east of it. Could cause some public rows??

Boeing says "Flight crews will always have the ability to override MCAS and manually control the airplane."  The pilots had it turned off, they could have flown it to a higher altitude before reengaging the MCAS.

Ah but hindsight is such a wonderful thing

  11. Airbus and China Aviation Supplies Holding Company (CAS) signed an agreement for Chinese airlines to purchase 300 aircraft during president Xi Jinping’s visit to France.

The order is thought to be worth tens of billions of dollars. Under the agreement, China will buy 290 A320-family aircraft and ten A350 XWB-family aeroplanes.

A Boeing 737 MAX 8 plane identical to the Ethiopian crash jet that killed everyone on board earlier this month has been forced into an emergency landing.

The Southwest Airlines flight crew declared an emergency on board before landing safely back in Orlando, it has emerged this evening.

There were no passengers on board at the time and the flight was heading to to Victorville, California for repositioning but returned safely to Orlando at about 2:50 p.m. (1850 GMT).

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the flight had suffered an 'engine-related' problem.

It comes weeks after airlines around the world grounded their Boeing 737 MAX aircrafts following the Ethiopia tragedy which killed 157 people.
