  1. Thanks for the info Denis. I'll probably be in touch soon about staying there in February, provided you have a room available as I'm sure you are receiving plenty of business now especially with all the favourable reviews I have seen in the past few months.

One question. Is Mam still working there? She got upset with me last time for not being able to beat me at pool, although she did get several drinks out of the deal.

  2. Same as LBJ, this is what I posted in another thread:

I stayed there in May/June and had no problems at all.

It is in a newer building, clean and well looked after. Housekeeping service daily. Clean sheets and towels. Minibar. In room safe. TV and DVD player in room. Large wardrobe. Kettle for making coffee or tea. The corner room that I stayed in on the top floor (Rm #10) had a good sized wraparound balcony as well. In room WIFI for those that bring their laptops.

In the lobby they have a decent bar (w/BGs), a large screen TV and 4 well looked after pool tables. There is also a free internet computer in the lobby that guests can use. There are frequently a few FLs hanging around as well.

The location is fine just around the corner is Lolita's, Champagne AGG and Lloydies bar. There are plenty of cheap places to eat nearby and many beer bars on Soi Buakhaow and Soi Diana. Most services are also available within a couple of minutes walk and it only takes about 10-15 minutes to walk to Soi 8 depending on how quickly you walk. On Soi Buakhaow you can also catch a baht bus going in either direction and you will end up on either end of 2nd road.

Since I left there they have changed ownership and Ian & Aor no longer run the place, Dennis the new owner seems to be an OK guy and I have chatted briefly with him on another board. As far as I know he is not planning any major changes but he is willing to listen to his customers.

The one drawback that many people have with the apartments is that the electricity goes out when you remove the key card from the plate and then you are unable to charge phones or laptop batteries and you cannot leave the AC on when you go out. The old policy was that if you cut the card off of the keychain then you forfeited your 1000 bt damage deposit. I do not know if Dennis still has this policy in effect or not.

  3. Welcome to the board. As with any board most on here are partial to the area this board speacializes in. In other words many on here will recommend that you just go to Pattaya and forget about Bangkok. I fall into this category. :clap1

The biggest difference that many find in Pattaya is that it is truly overwhelming, especially for most first timers. What you get in BKK you get ten times more in Pattaya. There are more bars and more girls in Pattaya than you will find in Bangkok thrown into a small area. Pattaya is built for one thing and it sells well. :drunk

The next biggest difference for many is normally price. Again opinions differ but ST will normally be 500-1,000 and LT somewhere between 1,000-2,000. It will vary in different areas, as well as between beer bars and GoGo's, it will also vary depending on high season or low season. It's always a controversial subject here. :gulp

Whatever you are looking for you should be able to find easily using the search engine and if you have any problems feel free to post questions. Some of the answers may surprise you.

I look forward to seeing you join in the discussions and adding your LOS experiences to the board. :chogdee2

  4. i wouldnt mind knowing what he wants to change it to, or can we have a thread to pick a new name for him

sorry big chief, you have been good lately :llaugh

He is just taking another dig at 'farangkwaiyai' in his normal roundabout way that leaves him room to deny that he is making fun of him and without specifically saying "I told you so." 'farangkwaiyai' was originally on the board here as 'farangmaikwai'.

  5. Let's see. I'm cruising the waterways in Bangkok and find a nice food vendor who either rinses her food in the river or her hands or her utensils.

Trust me, I don't need looking after.

I don't have a desire to eat insects (which are served in 4 star restaurants there too). I doubt that I would eat anything off of a food vendor there. I don't do that here.

I think you missed my point.

There's good and bad to everything mid. I've seen people get sick eating in some great restaurants. I have never been sick yet eating food from a street vendor in LOS and it tastes a whole lot better McDonald's or Burger King. :banghead

Some of the insects aren't that bad. :banghead
