  1. Military history buff time again.(For those that like war related things). I paid a visit to the Vietnamese Air Force/Air Defence museum in Hanoi. Stroke of luck finding this place really, as i came across it whilst reading some reviews of other places in Hanoi on Tripadvisor. That website is fantastic for research. The museum is located on the old disused Bach Mai airfield, and located towrds the south end of Hanoi. You would think even having a map (written in vietnamese) and the address written in vietnamese script, that a taxi should have no problems finding this place. Wrong! Apparen
  2. So, after visiting the tombs, the guide made the usual tourist stop off where they make the touristy knick-knacks and try the forced sale on you. But, before that, we made a stop off at some Kung Fu school place, where they did some fighting for us. Apparently the style they practice is called Vo Kinh Van An, after their master. Its meant to be some super-duper, kick ass Kung Fu fighting, but to be honest, its all the same to me after a while.
  3. The 3 kings tombs - The Tomb of Emperor Tu Duc. And finally............................ Tu Duc is the only Emperor who moved his household into his own tomb, building a Forbidden City of his own on the grounds, making this tomb the most opulent of all royal tombs. The guy builds himself a beautiful little Citadel to house all his family, and this photo ends up being his tomb that he is incaserated in!!!!....................
  4. The 3 kings Tombs - Emperor Khai Dinh. The 2nd tomb of the day was the Emperor Khai Dinh, who i have a feeling was one of the last Emperor's of Vietnam. Apparently, the guy had about 8 wife's, no children though, as he loved to smoke a bit of bloke whenever he could.(That means he was gay!!) An unrepentant Francophile, Emperor Khai Dinh ordered a tomb that has heavy French elements within its design. Compared to his predecessors’ tombs, Khai Dinh’s final resting place is more “monumental” in style.
  5. Part 2 of my photos of Hanoi. Its such a beautiful place, you would never leave here if you had the choice.
  6. Vietnamese weddings. They seemed to be all the rage when i was there a couple of weeks ago. All these young Viet couples having their pre/post wedding photos done. Must be an asian craze thing! Even an American couple were getting in on the wedding act as well....................
  7. Hoa Lo Prison/Maison Centrale, was effectionally known as the "The Hanoi Hilton" by the flyers and aircrew that were unlucky enough to be shot down over North Vietnam. Its a fantastic little place to visit, and should be high on your list of places to visit. But, as i found in quite a few places around Vietnam, it has some of the best propaganda to be found anywhere in the world. Well worth the entrance fee and an hour or so of your time. the site first seen as the downed pilots entered the "Hilton" back in the 60/70's..... The original front gate doors.......
  8. Huu Tiep Lake,The iconic B52 lake, where the wreckage of a B52 now lay. There is not really too much to see here, but according to my guide/moto driver/stalker/know-it-all, back in the 70's, this lake was a damn sight lot bigger than it is now, and the main body of this '52, is actually under some of the houses to the right of the wreckage. If true or not, who knows, but i had no reason not to believe him. This lake was one of the places that was on my list of places to visit, and in a way, im glad i made it here to see this.
  9. Hanoi. The one thing that surprised me was that there were so many trees everywhere. Every road you went down had trees, and it makes for a nice site, when you compare it to LoS.
  10. I love a good bit of military history, so this museum was one of the many that i wanted to visit. The B52 museum is located on Doi Can, in the Ba Dinh district of Hanoi. A very cheap taxi ride from basically any hotel you might think about staying in. As seems to be the case all over Vietnam, museums are closed on Fridays and Mondays, and never quite seem to open on time on any other days either, so its always hit and miss if its open. On this visit, it was a friday, so i couldnt get inside the museum, but they didnt mind me wandering around their grounds taking photos. This place is bac
