I have looked for a hotel in Pattaya and found on the www.mercure.com

(search Pattaya) that there should be a Mercure Hotel in Soi 15 second road (Yes Soi 15, second road).

Is it a new Hotel or is it a old Hotel overtaken by the Mercure group ?

Has nice rooms and o.k. prices on the site.

Accor was due to open 2 hotels in Pattaya this year, The Novotel in Naklua and The Mercure in Pattaya. I'm not sure about the location on 2nd Road though ...... I was under the impression it was further out towards 3rd Road. I would be wary about guest fees as Mercure was a bit of a nightmare when it ran what is now The Cholchan.

It is the new Mercure Hotel. My condo just off South Pattaya Road looks north accross some low rise housing and trees. For months I watched a place being built which wasn't on Soi Diana nor Soi Buakhao. At night the windows were sometimes lit up as if taking a film or having a show. I couldn't fathom it.

In the end my curiosity got the better of me. I walked down Second Road, going north from its junction with South Pattaya Road, turned east just before the Welcome Plaza Hotel and followed a long, boring road behind the Royal Palace and Royal Twins Hotels. There it was - I had been looking at the end of the new Mercure Hotel which stretched on down the road for 30/40 yards. It wasn't finished then and maybe the grounds are better now, but it is a long way from 2nd Road and several hundred yards from Soi Buakao - where the road eventually ends up.

It looked a bit like 'Find a bit of land where we can stick the standard model hotel.' Too far from anywhere. Unless it it has it's own path to 2nd Road. Even then...

Still haven't found out what went on in the rooms facing me.

Apologies - there does appear to be a new Mercure Hotel on Second Road/Beach Road. Their website says so. I will check the other place I mention above to be certain I didn't dream it all. But I'd hardly make up the name Mercure.

The answer from the Mercure about the location ?!

It does not help me, anyone knows now ?

The Mercure Hotel Pattaya is ideally located in the heart of Pattaya, 484 Moo 10 on the 2nd road soi 15 (take about 10-15 minutes to walking street). Our special price for industry rate is Baht 1,170 net per room/night on room only basis for deluxe room.

Should there be any further information you might need, please feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely yours,

Vorachai, R.

I think this must be the completion of a hotel that was left unfinished for several years (maybe since the the '97 meltdown) that is directly behind the Welcome Plaza, Royal Palace, Royal Twins Palace. I recall a French company had acquired the property over a year ago.

"chas" description of the location is correct. It is on Soi 15 which runs East from 2nd Road, curves to the North and this hotel is on the E. side of the soi. Soi 15 then curves E. again and tees into Soi Buakhao, about 100 m. S. of Soi Diana. And as he indicates it is not a good location. Nothing adjacent, no sidewalks to 2nd Road and a potentially dangerous walk at night.

Soi 7 and I checked out the place yesterday and they were having their grand opening today. Like others have said it located on a soi between 2nd RD and Soi Buakaow. It is almost directely behind where the Vientienne Restaurant (sic) was located. Once they complete that project and if they have access to that soi the distance to 2nd Rd would be cut at least in half.

The Mercure Group obviously had a bit of inside info when they took over the half completed hotel..............it/ll be in a prime spot once the new Robinsons is up and running on the old Vietienne/Palm Villa site. :bj2

The New Mercure Hotel was officially opened last week.

It is situated in Soi 15 in South Pattaya, but Soi 15 is not very well known locally and mostly referred to as "Soi Toyota Karaoke" or "Soi Star Boys". Soi 15 is the soi that is directly opposite Soi Pattayaland-2 (Classroom-1, Misty's and Penthouse/Kittens) on Second Road.

On the corner of Soi Pattayaland-2 and Second Road, near the Bank, a new "Mercure Hotel" sign can nowadays be spotted, pointing in the direction of this little Soi-15. The Mercure is about 1 Kilometer, on the right hand side, in this soi-15 or "Soi Toyota Karaoke". Before, the site of the new Mercure Hotel was, since the year 1999, a huge unfinished condominium or hotel.

After leaving Second-Road, soi-15 bends left to run parallel with Second-Road behind the Welcome-Inn hotel, the construction-site were the "Palm Villa Hotel" and the "Vientiane Restaurant" have been pulled down and also behind "Tim Bar Beer".

The old "Vientiane Restaurant" area will become a giant "Robinson Shopping Mall" with the back-entrance giving out directly to the Mercure Hotel, sharing restaurants, parking and other facilities with the Mercure hotel.

Once the above mentioned Robinson has been constructed, the distance of the Mercure hotel to the soi Post-office/Yamoto area will only be 200 meter, simply walking through an air-conditioned passage of the future Robinson Shopping Mall with even car and taxi access from Second-Road through the underground parking area of the future Robinson.

Currently, introduction prices in the Mercure are as low as 1,000 Baht and only a 3 minute taxi-drive from the Soi Pattayaland area.

Cheers,

Guest Fatboyfat

A compatriot has just booked a "queen bed" suite for three weeks in January here for 1700 Bt a day. If that is a "true" suite, then that is a pretty reasonable price. :chogdee2

Methinks that there may be a massive building/bomb site around by then tho' !

I would be wary about guest fees as Mercure was a bit of a nightmare when it ran what is now The Cholchan

Have heard that the new Mercure will not be charging a joining-fee (but this is not confirmed yet).

Haven't had the opportunity yet to meet the resident manager of the new Mercure, but seems where Mercure in Naklua was run with family-holidays and business conferences in mind, the new Mercure in the center of Pattaya's hotspot will be run to attract nightlife seeking customers.

But again, confirmation of the above still has to follow by reports of visiting customers.

Cheers,
