I see heaps of opticians all over Pattaya but have never used them. Presumabley they all make a living, of sorts, and all have a dual price policy!!!

As of just now one of me specs has broken and I am squinting at the screen - as I arrive in Pattaya in 12.75 days (approx) thought I'd enquire.

Any advise appreciated

I have bought reading glasses for 200 baht at one of the stalls in Bangkok at MBK when I lost my reading glasses. I would imagine you could do likewise at somewhere like Big C or Royal Garden Plaza. :clueless

In the past I have taken my own frames and a current prescription to Thailand.

In Pattaya, Charon? in walking street charged 1000 baht for lenses and in Udon Charon charged 850 baht.

Had the lenses checked in Australia and they were perfect.

I use BetterVision in the Sukhumvit Tesco/Lotus. In July this year an eyesight test 1 pair of Bifocals and 1 pair of single prescription sunglasses in good quality frames with all the extras (hard, anti reflective coatings etc.) cost 5200 Bt. The sunglasses were ready the same day the bifocals took less than a week to arrive.

When I asked the ophthalmologist at the Rutnin Eye Hospital in Bangkok if she had any thoughts about where to have my prescription filled she said she didn't have any knowledge of opticians in Pattaya, but added,

"Don't go to Top Charoen!"

I used Pattaya Optical on Pattaya Klang above 2nd Road.

I also use Top Charoen optical although you definately need to negociate.

As a general rule of thumb you can still make good savings on specialist or high end products. as i don't look after my glasses i tend to wear a pair for a few months and then throw them away so end up buying less expenive pairs. At this end of the market savings aren't great but service is generally better

Better Vision......Branches all over Thailand.

Not the cheapest BUT after going to 4 other places and putting on the try before you buy Joe90's with WORSE eyesite than before Better vision got it right first time with no fucking around!

Frames about 60% cheaper for my D&G, Lense's 1800THB each for the best money could buy (Auto tinting/anti scratch)

I bought a pair of react-to-light, memory metal frame, single vision from a small optician on Pattaya Klang (Central Rd). About 5,500 bht I think (£75) inc. eye test.

Now i thought it was maybe just me getting used to the new specs, but 2 spec/lense wearing uk female friends have tried them & without me saying anything, both noticed immediately: they're bloody cross eyed :clap1 :clap1

Been into my own opticians & they checked the lense prescription saying it was as near as dam it spot on, their machine doesn't pic up the the x bit.

I've worn them a fair bit & kinda got used to ignoring the problem by looking straight thru' them (If you follow what i mean) but have now stopped wearing them as wondering what they might be doing to my eyes.

So, 5 "long times" wasted there :frustrated

Can't remember the name of the shop & can't find the receipt. A single word name i think. Up 2nd rd past Caeser's Palace hotel opposite soi 8 to traffic lights, turn right towards Carrefour & its about 1st opticians on the left just after a couple of Indian owned hardware shops. Well before the start of Soi Bukhauw on the right.

Do all of the opticians mentioned have English speaking staff?

My Thai lady has had operations on her eyes and I want her to get a good eye test so I can understand the problems she is having. I got nowhere with the Bangkok/Pattaya hospital where she had the operations and hope to get an acurate assessment from an optician.
