Jasmine Mansion Soi Boukhow

Recommended Posts

Felt it necessary to give an account of my experience of this Hotel. You can draw your own conclusions. I will tell everything exactly as it was

After a recommendation from a friend and reading a couple of reviews I decided to give the Jasmine in Soi Boukhow a try. Price was reasonable and it had a Bath tub which I like. I booked 6 days and was looking to to maybe extend if all was Ok.

I arrived a day early and they had the same room I booked available. It was a deluxe room on the fourth floor. The Hotel does not have a lift, which is not a complaint because this was clearly explained to me. The room was nice and clean. The first problem was that there was no plug in the bath, but this was rectified a couple of days later. My stay was Ok but I decided I could not extend because the shower on the 4th floor was nothing more than a dribble, almost unusable. There were no taps so it took over an hour to fill the bath.

I decided to check out and find another hotel and this is where the problems started. The checking out bill.

Approx 300 baht from Mini Bar – Accepted and no problems.

300 baht for blood on the sheets. – Now if the girl was on her period then fine, but the blood was 4 TINY specks from my knee from an old cut which was slightly aggravated through sex. I was told that all sheets had to be replaced when blood was on them for Hygiene. More than likely, total bullshit, but even so were they Armani sheets???

400 Baht – For joiner fee, for having 2 ladies on 2 separate occasions. First time this has ever happened to me and I have stayed in a lot better places.

300 Baht – For checking out 35 minutes late. Every other place gave me a warning out and Areca said nothing even though I was 1 and ½ hours late.

Some of you will say my own fault and that is fine. However I felt it was in the interest of the board to post this as I know members who are using it in the future.

Seems a bit steep! I have heard about a joiner fee for a second lady before but can't remember at what hotels. I have had blood on sheets about four times now. Once there was quite a lot of blood. I was never charged for it.

I think you must have broken the heart of the lady that checked you out MO?... :banghead

I've bought sheets at several hotels in Thailand over the years, ranging in price from 150-300 baht. If Kevin says they were replaced I trust him. I wouldn't want sheets with other people's blood stains on my bed, but I'll admit I've seen them in some hotels.

Their joiner fee (for the second guest) is clearly stated in the confirming e-mail I got from the hotel. I don't care for them either frankly, but some places do have them. If it wasn't agreeable to you it should have been a topic of discussion before, not after your stay.

As I recall from my stay they clearly state the checkout time. Again, if you had been pro-active about it and discussed it with management prior to the occurance, it might have been waived. After the fact is a little late.

I don't see any issues here myself.

Correction:

The low water pressure is an issue they need to address.

I encountered it as well on a few occasions while I was staying there.

With the exception of the low water pressure, I don't see any problems. In the past when blood has gotten on the sheets from some of my prior guests, they just took the sheet into the bathroom and washed out the blood stains.

Some of you will say my own fault and that is fine. However I felt it was in the interest of the board to post this as I know members who are using it in the future.

My name is KEVIN MEACHER and with my wife JIN I own Jasmine Mansion and run the hotel. I feel it only proper to reply to the slanted report posted on this board and which is quoted above.

This person is one of very few who have complained about anything to do with our hotel in the two years we have been open. Reports on this forum and also ofBBoard and Pattaya Secrets will bear out that we have rarely anything but very complimentary remarks made about the hotel. I would therefore ask you to check out these reports yourselves and then make your own minds up based on what some 100 people have said rather than the words of one man.

Let me respond though to the specific remarks of this person:

1. All sheets are immediately thrown away if they have blood, excrement or similar staining to them. They are replaced by new sheets and the cost of this is the responsbility of the guest and not the hotel - please note the word hotel rather than "hospital". The cost of replacing these items also takes into account the time and cost of us having to go and buy the replacement items. In addition there were NOT a few odd specks of blood on the sheet alone - yes there were a few specks on one side of the sheet and a significantly larger "patch" of blood on the other side of the bed which our friend here seems to have overlooked. If this large patch of blood also came from his knee scratch then I am suprised he did not need a blood transfusion. This blood has also soaked through to the under sheet which protects the mattress and this also to had to be replaced. Our friend also appears to believe MY hotel policy of replacing such items is bullshit - well he can believe what he wants as I am telling you as a fact that this is our policy, I own the hotel and I know.

2. The water pressure on the fourth floor of the hotel is a little lower than we would like. We took action earlier this year to increase the pressure and this has improved it significantly although it is still lower than we would wish. It is most certainly NOT a dribble and again our friend seems to be prone to a degree of excaggeration, presumably to make his point. Since the water pressure problem was first identified, in fact by one of this sites reviewers, Sa-teef, earlier this year only one other person has mentioned it is a problem out of the 50 or so guests we have had staying on this floor. I would be delighted if Sa-teef would pop in during his next visit to see the present water pressure level and report back to you as an independent reviewer.

3. The Joiner Fee is ONLY for a second lady staying overnight and is B200 per night - our friends charge here, let us make it perfectly clear - was for 2 ladies for 2 nights. This charge is stated quite clearly in my e-mail message sent out upon receiving an enquiry, on the room receipt given to customers when they check in and it is also written in our Hotel Guide of which there is a copy in every room. If a customer elects not to read what he is sent/provided with then I am afraid I take no responsibility for that. Some of you may not like this Joiner Fee but if that is the case then simply do not stay here, for most though it is simply not an issue. It is not a hidden charge, it is clearly stated and in the main it does not cause us or our customers any problems. In addition we generally waive this fee for our regular and valued customers who discuss such a situation with us - this person was not a regular customer and most certainly never discussed the matter with either my staff or myself.

4. The late check-out fee really shows our friends true colours I am afraid. I found this person to be a very obnoxious human being and one who seems to believe the world revolves around him and that he is in some way BETTER than everyone else. His name on here as MIGHTYONE should instead perhaps be HIGHANDMIGHTYONE!! This person checked out approximately 2 hours late not 35 minutes late and at no time felt it necessary to advise the hotel he was checking out after the normal departure time which again is clearly stated in my reservation confirmation, on the room receipt received upon arrival by all guests and in the Hotel Guide. Such behaviour is rude, arrogant and disrespectful and I have no qualms about charging an additional B300. Had this person asked for a late check out, as every normal decent person does, he would have been told the pricing structure for this and would then have been able to decide whether or not to stay beyond the 12 noon check out time, he would also have been able to discuss this with me if he wished - however, when presented with a fait accomplis I will respond accordingly!

I am delighted this customer felt it appropriate to pay for the mini bar contents he consumed although rather suprised he did not expect these for free!!

Overall my impression of this person is that he is a rather sad little man trying desparately to impress others and give people the impression he is some kind of City big shot. Having worked in London for 30 years before comming here I have met many, many people like him and have to say I hope not to meet him or others of his ilk too often in the future.

The friends he referred to have made very positive remarks about the hotel, one of whom stayed in the same room as this person without any complaints being made whatsoever. In fact his friend and I had many conversations during his stay and he keeps in regular contact with me by e-mail, as do a number of our customers.

We run a professional hotel with high standards of safety, service and cleanliness. We cannot please all of the people all of the time although this does not stop us doing our very best for every person who stays with us. If someone has a genuine grievance I will be the first to deal with that and to endeavour to rectify the problem or make amends. However, people such as HIGHANDMIGHTYONE are never going to be satisfied if everyone is not dancing to their tune and I genuinely hope that I never see this person ever again, he is certainly not welcome back to our hotel.

I conclude as I started by simply referring readers of this post to the other forums mentioned and to the comments about our hotel on this site here and ask you to form your own opinions.

Had plenty of threesomes and mbiggs is right. Find one girl who is willing and let her choose number 2. Although having said that the one I had last night came as a bolt out of the blue. A popular girl from a very popular bar. Full details to follow.

Thank you for your responses gentlemen. However, having re-read my response I apologise to HIGHANDMIGHTYONE for giving my personal feelings of him as they should have been kept to myself - I was rather enraged by his posting though.

SHUGGY - Andy I really look forward to seeing you again - true gent, top bloke!

SA-TEEF - You are always welcome and in my opinion you always make considered remarks. When you reviewed Jasmine you were the first to have done so and whilst very complimentary overall you made one or two negative remarks which were wholly justified. As I said - balanced and fair and I can take constructive criticism and accept we (and me personally) are not perfect. If I was totally honest though, you can stay away and send Noi round to test the "pressure" herself although I think Mrs Boss may have something to say on such a suggestion!!!

WINDYNOI - Our web site is www.jasminemansion.com

Kind Regards,

Kevin

Hi,

Dont know either of the boardies but I feel there was nothing wrong with the OP's treatment here. I have had some sharp practice from staff in hotels in Pattaya but always Thai run ones. I think these new places around Soi Bukhao should be encouraged as they give boardies an option away from the soi's off Beach Rd.

I respect your right to defend your hotel and explain the situation from your point of view.

That being said, calling the man names and insulting him, IMO, is out of line.

He spoke only about your hotel and his experience, he didn't attack you or any of your staff personally.

I think you would have served your business better if you had left out the personal insults.

Guido

BTW-What is the purpose of the joiner fee for the additional person?

Link to post

We see Mr Cookie is not happy. Well no business person is when their operation is being criticised. It is how they react to criticism makes the person and the business. Mr Meacher quite rightly defended his business as I fully expected him to do knowing he was a member of the board. The bit about the blood and checking out is my word against his and no point in me saying anymore on the subject. I actually also said some nice things about the Hotel. The water pressure when I was there was totally un acceptable and should have been taken into account when additional charges were being made on Checkout. But that is only my opinion.

the time with the 2 ladies were both with Joy from Cherry bar and another who stayed short time. Both ladies stayed no longer than 3 hours from approx 5 or 6am until 8 or 9 am. If that constitutes as overnight then the charge is accepted and I apologise.

However I would never expect a person who runs a respected business to make assumptions on a person character after 1 PROPER CONVERSATION and then publicly state them in the manner he did. But again that is just my opinion again.

guido for the record:

1. I did apologise for the personal remarks I made if you read my second post.

2. The reason for my anger at this persons post was not so much in the inaccuracy of some of the statements made but the topic heading - JASMINE MANSION - BEWARE! If you do not feel that is an attack and designed to damage my business through an inflammatory statement which suggests we behave in an underhand manner then you and I see things very differently. An attack on my business is an attack on my wife and I and I take that personally!

(HIGHAND)MIGHTYONE - You will not stay here again, I would not welcome you here again, you and me do not like each other - OK these things happen in life and it is certainly not a problem for me. I wish you no harm and bear no ill feeling towards you though and I wish you a long and happy life.

This is my last comment on this topic.

Hi my Friends.

Would like to respond to this topic on behalf of Kevin and Jin, having stayed here between

September 22nd and October 7th i can confirm it is one of the cleanest hotels i have stayed

in for many of my visits to Pattaya. When i hear of people moaning about the stains and smells

of a 5 star hotel like the Royal Cliff Beach south pattaya this week i wonder what people want.

Me and my mate also called Kevin had a cracking time here with either Kevin or jin always on

hand if any problems arise.

When we arrived on September 22nd we were fully aware of the so called joiner fees and also

of check-out times and if i was going to be late i would have let Kevin know rather then the

problems at check-out.

My mates gf was taken ill, and i spent 1 night in hospital and i can only praise Kevin and Jin for

all their help and concern during my spell in hospital.

In my recent review of this hotel i gave it 10 out of 10 and i will continue to support and stay here

in any future visits. i certainly do not need to be "Beware" of this place.

Everyone has their own opinion about their hotel they stay at, me including and i remember

slating off the Apex Hotel 3 years ago for being Dirty, Smelly and Stained badly but people

are still staying there today the choice is theirs.

Finely to Kevin and Jin you will have a lot more satisfied customers than unhappy ones

i know that and thanks for our cracking holiday minus 1 night in hospital, take care you two

Dave and Kevin.

Felt sad for both parties after reading this thread.

Never been to the Jasmine, but it sounds like a nice place, with lots of good reviews. Clean rooms are very important to me, so this is a big plus. I will be looking to stay in Soi Boukhow next year, so I'll obviously be considering Jasmine, Metro etc: (looking forward to Scumbag's comments re: Metro)

Regarding Mightyone - I met the guy twice. I found him to be very friendly and welcoming towards me, even though it was obvious I was a nervous newbie and shy. On my first night in Pattaya he approached me at the Cherry Bar and bought me several drinks, so he can't be all bad :cry1 - he then invited me to Walking St, but I declined as I felt an obligation to barfine Pun, as I'd already promised her earlier that evening.

On another evening, I met Mike on Adam's 'dice crawl' night and had a great time. Once again, Mike made me feel welcome, like one of the boys, even though we did not know each other.

I feel Mike has an extremely confident, happy go lucky, jack the lad personality, which some people may OCCASIONALLY interpret as arrogance? This is unfortunate, as he really is a great bloke.

Anyway, both posters have spoken and I'm sure Mike will be selecting another hotel next time :D

So in summary - Jasmine has had many good reviews, no hotel can acheive 100% customer satisafaction.

Mightyone is a great guy and an excellent drinking partner.

:gulp

ps: while at the River Kwai - after day one, the bath plug just disappeared from the bathroom :cry1 - the cleaners must have snaffled it :allright - so it's 6pm with dinner in one hour - i stink to high heaven after a day in the jungle/waterfall and don't want a shower - so I walk down to reception and politely explain the problem. I'm advised to return to my room and a lady wil be along in 5 mins - 20 mins later no one comes :allright so i go back to reception and they say "cannot find bathplug sorry sir" - so I suggest they take a plug out of an empty room and give it to me :cry1 this produces a perplexed look on the faces of the staff and they start jabbering in Thai - I then ask to see the manager- 10 mins later I'm in the bath with my Tilac washing my back :D

For the many of us who do know MIGHTYONE personally the first post you quote was known to be a joke. It is well known by many that he spends more nights with 2 girls than he does with 1 girl. I would hope you have more than 2 posts to quote if you are going to accuse someone of being well known for talking shit. Have you met him or is your opinion of him based only on 2 posts?

I find it a shame that Kevin/cookie has decided to no longer converse on this subject, as the trials and tribulations of running a hotel have not really been covered too well, in the past. Various inputs from the "more reputable" <grin bar "owners" have been beneficial in blowing away many false misconceptions about what actually goes on.

Sadly I will not be considering his hotel, purely on the basis of the room surcharge for guests. (A personal choice that I apply to ANY hotel, whether I require the facility or not, and no specific problems with the Jasmine who advertise that they WILL charge for this.)

However, I in company with Guido, would have dearly liked to hear what Kevin's justification for such extra charge is, when all hotel payments in Thailand are on a "room rate" basis. I have asked many hotel managers this question, and the ONLY one to provide any kind of answer (Bollox tho' it was) was the Eastiny, who claimed that it was for the extra towels and bedding. (Like that actually happens :D  !!!)

There is no charge at the Jasmine Mansion for 1 guest, i stayed there with my thai girl friend

and my mate with his.

The charge is for more than 1 guest in a room so if you like 2 to 6 girls then a charge

will be added seems fair to me.
