I just booked a room for my January trip at Sabai Inn and got a decent price. I asked the manager via email beforehand if they were guest friendly and he said they were (no charge).

Beginning to understand the Soi numbering I'm wondering if I book a hotel too far away from the action as it's located near Soi 1 & 2. I know I can take the bath bus, but does that also go around Pattaya at evenings/night?

Sorry for all the questions but trying to avoid the rookie mistakes (although I am a rookie) :gulp

Stayed for three weeks 2006.

1. Get a room with an outside window - half the rooms face inwards, with the window facing the corridor - these rooms are very dark, making you depressed.

2. No problem with location - step outside, loads of baht busses streaming down soi 2, turning left into Beach Rd, up towards Walking St - same coming back on Second Rd - buzz baht bus 2 stop when approaching Big C.

3. Decor now tired but rooms clean and VERY big for money - try getting room on top floor.

I would NOT stay here again - but only because the rooms have no balcony - for me, even a small balcony makes a huge difference when you don't feel like going out just yet, relax with a couple of beers on the balcony.

Very good info Ben, let me ask you where would you stay then :)

I like the idea of a balcony, but I'm not much of a stair climber so elevator is a must if it's above 3rd floor (climbing stairs while hammers is hard) :drunk

Sabai Inn has an Elevator.

So many good hotels with balcony - but we need 2 know your max hotel price, before suggesting rooms/hotels.

Honestly - if your not bothered about a balcony (and mean it) then as a newbie, I'd stay at the Sabai Inn, but e.mail the manager and INSIST on a room with outside window.

Hotel is only 2 mins from Big C - a good way 2 start the day is be out of the hotel at 11am, then walk down 2 Beach Rd - 10 mins, you will be passing soi 6 - 25 mins will see you at soi 7/8 - this is a lovely walk and wil help you gain your bearings.

If you spend more money - then I'd recommend the Sabai Resort (same chain) across Second Rd, next 2 Big C - but more expensive.

I have some photos of my room, but can't upload them in this thread, as the hotel section does not seem 2 accept attachments.

If you supply me with any yahoo e.mail address, then I can send you a few photo's of the room - so you have a better idea.

How much are you paying?? I paid 850 baht (superior) but that was low season.

I'm okay with prices up to 15-1600 baht a night and what I'm counting as most important is veyy GF, location (as I've never been there before), clean rooms (and bug free), good A/C and good toilet/bath facilities. Balcony is a plus :)

I dont require a pool or gym but a decent breakfast would be nice (not a requirement).

Atm. Sabai Inn, Inn House and Sandy Springs are the ones I'm counting on but that's by pure websurfing and all hotels can look good in the right lightning/old photos etc. - what really matters is the experiences you guys have to share.

You can email me the pics at: bigdane at microsux.dk :drunk

Now I remember another big problem with this hotel

The water rarely gets hot enough and often is downright cold + the toilet flush is shite, on my first day (late afternoon, it got blocked with only a little loo paper and I had 2 ask the cleaner 2 unblock it - nearly caused a flood - after this I just used the hose.

These problems may or may not have been fixed :thumbup <grin

In order for us 2 assist you further, we need 2 know your preference.

Do you want 2 be right in the heart of the action OR somewhere more peaceful, sedate, but still with easy access??

If it's the latter, then I'd definately go for the Sabai Resort, not 2 be confused with the Sabai Lodge (opposite Sabia Inn) which is older than Sabai Resort and not as good - but as you can see it's quite expensive.

Photo's of my Paradise Pool - Deluxe Ruen Thai, Sabai Resort

http://www.flickr.com/photos/67802745@N00/

It's in an excellent location - the security is FIRST CLASS - one night this really saved my bacon grin - the complex is huge, extending backwards a long way. Indeed, the area at the back, will not be open until the New Year.

I viewed all the room types available and all offer excellent accomodation. The rooms are kept spotlessly clean - one night they even spayed the whole complex with mosquito repellant and huge clouds of white powder, hung in the air, making me choke - the cleaners and staff are very friendly and the guards will often escort you to your door at night. Fantastic reception area.

During low season all prices are up for bartering - I stayed at the Paradise Pool - Deluxe Ruen Thai, advertised rate 2850 a night, but I got it for 2000. A guy I made friends with for a week, managed 1850, but that was rock bottom and the reception lady had to seek authorisation from the manager. I do not begrudge paying 2000 baht, as all the staff must be paid for and I regulary observed the paved areas getting swept, during windy days etc:

If you can stretch to 2000 baht a night - why not e.mail the manager at Sabai Resort and ask for a Paradise Pool - Deluxe Ruen Thai?? Everything else in the area cannot compare at that price - unfortunately, because it's high season they may want 3000 baht - maybe pay 2500 baht, meet halfway?

Excellent info and my preferences are close but not in the action zone (walking street) :)

I like to be able to treat my hangover during midday but I'm not oversensitive about noise. With bathroom trouble Sabai Inn is deff. out the picture as that is one of my basic needs - proper bath/toilet facilities with running warm water for showering. A lot of things I can overlook but bad toilets are just frustrating and always come at worst possible moments :)

Here's what I've picked up reading the forums - the hotel needs to be between 2nd road and beach road or face outwards to 2nd road so getting around Pattaya isn't a hassle. Get a decent priced hotel, pref. a newer built one for better electricity, plumming and water service.

I'll be arriving during peak season so I doubt I can haggle myself a low rate of the big suites - I'm not deadset on a big room with extra space I dont need :) All I need is for it to be clean, good big bed, GF, good toilet/bath and if there's a good breakfast option and/or a room safe that's a big plus.

Thanks for the pictures they do indeed look nice!

If I left out any information please let me know.

Below are just a few examples - most have been reviewed in this section - if you see something you like, do a search, using the search function at the bottom of the hotel section page.

All the below in different areas - it's very difficult 2 advise, as we all have varying needs + different things get on our nerves + some newbies want a quiet life - others don't mind hustle and bustle.

soi bukhow/soi diana/lk metro are very different from soi 2/3 - as is soi 7/8 - soi 13 - Walking St..........all with good and bad points.

I would go for any hotel in Soi 13 ,its quiet and near to the action its only 300meters long so a short walk to either beach rd or 2nd rd and as far as I know all the hotels are girl friendly.

Stayed at Sabai Inn 3 times now, never had any problem with either hot water or toilets.

Was there last Aug/Sept and they were replacing carpets to all the rooms and the headboards above the bed and repainting all the accomodation areas.

Stayed in a different room each time.

the big plus for me was being able to stand at the front entrance and have a baht bus pick you up.

Will be staying there next year

Cheers

I think ben99 has summed it up well.

Insist when you book in you want an outward facing room, not one that has corridors on both sides. The corridors can be very noisy at night, no matter how late you get home you will get woken by someone getting home later.

The hotel is fine with plenty of baht buses going past, not to far from the action around walking st, plenty of good beer bars around soi 2 area and very close to big c.

I prefer the areca lodge in soi diana for around the same money.

Well if the rooms have new carpets + decor, then I might be tempted 2 give it another go in low season.

The rooms are very large for 700/850 baht - although the price may well rise next year.

I love the location - baht buses, Big C and the quiet area of Beach Rd.

Although no balcony, I forgot 2 mention the excellent patio/terrace area outside the hotel, has tables and chairs - you feel like Lord of the Manor, looking down at the passing traffic - they also have a full size snooker table near reception.

Thanks for all the info guys - it's awesome to say the least.

Fortune has it a good friend of mine (here at work) saw me browsing hotels etc. in Pattaya and immediate said he wanted in on the trip. So here's another question, based on your experience, is it cheaper to book a suite with 2 seperate bedrooms or just stick with 2 seperate rooms?

Sabai Inn is back up in the top3 for my hotel booking after the 'green light' from Fonz :eyecrazy

For the past 3yr`s if you booked on thier web site standard rooms (large)were 700B.

On thier web site now the rooms are now 750B. May be to cover the cost of the new carpets etc.

I like the large bed that is two singles fastened together but made up as one .Also the walk in shower, showers over the bath to me are a pain in the ----.

If you like billiards there is also both a small and a full sized table .

If a pool is your thing get atowel from reception walk across the soi and use the Sabai Lodge three pools

Wow-they are finally replacing those smelly old carpets! Would have preferred tiles as easier to keep clean and fresher.

The low season rates are very good and you can choose standard or superior-they both have their pluses, for instance standard has a good big walk in shower whereas superior has bath with shower.

Superior rooms are on the quiter lighter seafacing side, standard overlook noisy Thai pub and carpark.

Superior have hairdryer and tea making facilities, topped up daily.

Don't forget the voucher for a free coffee and cake each day-doesn't sound much but quite welcome. The outside terrace is very attractive and an excellent place to sit and watch the world go by.

Again you can wait on the steps and pick up a baht bus right away.

All rooms have excellent electronic safe. Use of pool across the road at Sabai Lodge.

To second Pauly77's opinion/run down.

Stayed there a two weeks ago and I can recommend.

24 hour security and they take the girl's ID.

Complimentary tea/coffee/dessert every day from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM.

Snooker table in the tea room; conventional billiard table in lobby

along with big screen TV and some comfy seats for viewing.

Superior room (850 baht low season) has kettle with tea, coffee,

creamer and sugar and 2 cups. Very handy.

Good air-con unit. In-room, bolted down, 6-digit electronic safe.

Cable TV could be a bit better, IMHO. (I am not in the room to watch TV. though.)

Full bathroom and decent amenities. Extra towels a snap; just ask the maid.

If you're picky, Big C hypermart has small size bottles of every toiletry imaginable.

I have the maid empty the mini-bar, go to Big C and stock up on juice, fruit, water etc.

Never a problem from staff with this request. Actually, never a problem with staff, period.

Also, you can use the pool at The Sabai Lodge or the Sabai Resort if you want to do so.

I actually request an interior room, though. I tend to turn in about Midnight - 1:00 AM and

the interior rooms are more quiet.

I have stayed here numerous times since 2004. This has been my experience every time.

Give it a try, I say.

"Here's what I've picked up reading the forums - the hotel needs to be between 2nd road and beach road or face outwards to 2nd road so getting around Pattaya isn't a hassle."

I agree with this conclusion, but mostly because I don't want to work up a sweat walking in the Pattaya heat and humidity. I was in Pattaya in September and had planned on doing a lot of walking because the distances are not that great, but it was too hot for me to do a lot of walking. I'm fat and out of shape but I sweat buckets even when I am in shape (at least as far as I can remember).

Pattaya is not large, and there are some places off the baht bus loop worth checking out, but you will have more bars and bar girls than you can handle just staying on the 2nd Rd and Beach Rd loop, including Walking St of course.

Getting around isn't that much of a hassle in any event (IMHO).

Don't worry, you will figure it out very quickly.

Relax a little, if you plan a lot, Pattaya will probably change your plans - in a good way.

Have fun.

I'm staying at the Sabai Inn now and am very happy with the choice. The room is good having been recently redecorated. On the Beach side the rooms are quiet. Everything works - Air-con, TV, toilet. Yes the interior rooms dont have a window to the outside, but I stayed in one of these once and it did not bother me at all. I trust the staff - once I left my in-room safe door open - when I returned nothing had been touched.

You can use the pools at the Sabai Lodge just across the Soi so lack of a pool is no problem. If you play snooker this is the place to stay - a full size table in good condition is available. The day manager Mr Aan is a great guy and very helpfull if you have a problem.

The Sabai Inn is my first choice hotel in Pattaya. Very spaceious rooms with good sized bed. A/c is very noisey if you put it to the maxium speed, not a massive issue.

I had a few problems on 2 visits with the hot water, it was coming out cold, so I complained to the Aan, the manager who rectifed the problem.

Overall it's a great hotel at a great price. Can't wait for next month when I will be there again.

Just to give a mention to Mr Aan the day manager-good bloke who always remembers previous guests.

If you are checking in and see him make sure he checks you in as he will sort you out a good room, unlike the (very pretty) reception girls.

If you arrive early morning say 9 to 10,he will put you in a room straight away if available.

If you are sending an email booking enquiry, mark it for his attention.

The big screen tv in the foyer is great for watching Premier footy in the evening.

Sabai Inn is also my first choice for good value in Patts. Nice large rooms with everything you need, for a great price, and no problem using the pools at Sabai Lodge across the street. IMHO, the rooms at Sabai Inn are much better than the similar cost rooms at Sabai Lodge. I'll be back there for the week of Dec. 12-18.
