Man,am I seeing a very disturbing trend here with the thai vs falang in the news and on these posts,or is this just a case of some isolated incidents being blown out of proportion?I'm an old salt now, been going to sea for the most part since 1978,and I've seen a few bar fights with the scars to match back in my younger days, but I've come to believe in Sun Tzu's book , "The Art Of War",when confronted by supieror forces, retreat, regroup and rethink your strategy, then if your intent on settling a score I believe in being insidious, that is if you really have a vengeful streak in you as I sometimes do,don't force a confrontation then and there...wait..... :banana and then calmly...now this may sound a bit like over kill, but tell that to the poor falang who gets his ass whipped or even killed by a gang., of course this is just a poor kid from Baltimore city giving his point of view :D

Well,I believe this forum is another nonviolent way of taking action, and I personally just read all the input from my fellow posters and then make an informed decision as to whether I should frequent any establishment or not based on my findings.I for one damm sure don't want to push my luck in a foreign land

when I'm only here to have a good time, its dangerous enough on my ship, hell just last week a cable snapped and sliced the hell out my ear, just missing my eye,not to mention skydiving in May in Patttaya :finger

Well, thats my opinion anyway, hope you guys stay clear of trouble :drunk

All the best, Spring

I’m not after anything for myself, even though some have suggested I deserve compensation. I also don’t have a grudge against anyone, but when something of this nature occurs I believe it is my public duty to inform. Then people can make up their own mind. Clearly, many of you have and have condemned me. Fair enough, but I don’t think I’d like you in my circle of friends.

I don't know you and you might be the "nicest guy in the world,' one that I would enjoy sitting down and having a drink with. But, on the other hand a lot of your writing seems to indicate to me that you feel "entitled!" Top 10-journalist and all that. OK, you have "done your duty" in reporting your side of this story.

But, here again, you now tell us that it is fair enough that some of us have condemned you ( I totally disagree with this statement) as I choose to think that some posters have just looked for the "other side of the story," as I did. Why should all believe you and your account of the events? I'm not saying that they are not true but there is ALWAYS the other side of a story, correct? You of all people should know this, your being a Top 10-Specialist Journalist, Correct?

Again, condemned you? I think not and I find it slightly inteteresting the manner in which you dismiss the so called "condemnation" by saying, " I don't think I would like you in my circle of friends." No kidding! Surprise! Surprise!

Two questions:

Why would I make this up?

Why do you think the mamasan was ejected from the bar and sent home, and I was welcomed to stay? Pretty unusual if I was the troublemaker, hum.

My course of action in a situation like this would be to

  1. Formally complain to the bar and give them reasonable time to look at what happened and get back to you
  2. Report the matter to the police if it is a possible crime and the tourist police. The police may not take any action but the tourist police could bring some heat to bear if they thought that the matter could get reported and lead to poor publicity putting off others from coming to Thailand
  3. If all the above fails and if you have no intention of going back to the bar again then publicise the matter on forums. This will antagonise the bar and means that they are unlikely to offer you any compensation

You seem to have gone for option 3 far too quickly. Now you will not get any compensation from the bar, they have been publicly attacked and so will be unwilling to admit any liability that they may have earlier conceded.

Also, this is one bar where you will not be invited back into. Giving the amount of money that you spent and that you stayed on after the incident shows that this was one of your favourite bars.

You should have persued discussions with the bar as long as possible. With the threat of unwanted publicity the bar may have offered you compensation but now all that you are gaining is revenge and putting off some people from going to the bar.

In a few months this incident will have been forgotten and the bar would have replaced any customers that may have been put off by this negative publicity - you will have gained no permanent benefit and will never be welcomed back into this bar again.

1 - I didn’t need to ‘formally’ complain. They came to me to investigate and were perfectly happy for me to stay. If I was in the wrong they would have thrown me out. Obvious. I gave them 14-15 hours to contact me, and they did not. These days you can contact anyone immediately if you have their number. I gave mine.

2 - Everyone who has spent any time in Thailand, and especially in Pattaya, knows that the tourist police are utterly useless. It is likely that any regular police are ‘connected’ in some way with the bar, as is the norm there. I’m not saying it was the case, but they may have got rid of the mamasan quickly because some kind of ‘substance’ might have been involved and they didn’t want the ‘wrong’ kind of police arriving and questioning her. Why else get rid of her from the premises, and so quickly.

3 - Read my submission to Stickman. I am, and never was, after any compensation. I would never, ever expect a bar to admit a criminal assault by their staff. Would you? My role was only to publicise what happened to an elderly guy after I made a complaint about poor service.

It was not one of my favourite bars. I'd never been there before, but had read it was a fun place. It was, until the mamasan got involved.

Alan.

You live in Thailand but don't understand a policeman being in a bar where tits are on show ? Get real mate. And a free spending customer would have to decapitate somebody to get thrown out of a go go in 80% of places.Money number 1.

I was questioning the owner's version of events where he said that a senior policeman was in the bar at the time. It runs in my mind that I had read somewhere (possibly on Secrets) that a member of the TOURIST police was in the bar at the time - NOT a senior policman.

The owner has alleged that Barry was drunk. Now, I don't know either of them but the question I have yet to see answered is - if Barry was as drunk and obnoxioux as the owner claims, why was he allowed to stay in the bar? That makes it very difficult for me to believe the owner's version.

I also suspect that as a journalist, Barry will have told his version to show him in the best possible light.

I didn't say that you would make this story up. One of my points is, is that it is your side of the story. Naturally, your account would color in your favor. Logical, IMO.

Only ALL the people that were there and witnessed the entire episode would have a more accurate take on what actually transpired.

I can see that the Mamasan would have been asked to leave the bar before her further involvment would have no doubt added more fuel to the incident. And, you admitted that you physically grabbed her. Sounds like a great move to me to get her out of the club. Reading between the lines (as I see it) it sounds to me that you wanted to stay and have action taken to vindicate your side of what transpired.

And, No-I don't think it was pretty unusual if you were the person that was out of line and if you turned out to be the troublemaker that night.

For the record. I have never been in the Windmill and don't know the owner (s?)or any of the principals, or any of the employees.

I mentioned I am a respected professional as that was supposed to underline my good character, but some even took that up against me.

It's for others to say wether or not you are respected :allright

Comments like that lead me to believe that you could well be obnoxious when you've been drinking as the owner stated elsewhere.

However, I see no reason at all for you to be assaulted. Especially by four blokes! Were they Thai? Probably if there was 4 of them

I think it was BM Top Cat that said you should have barfined the dancer if you wanted a happy ending. He's spot on.

It has happened to me before where somebody paid bar for the girl I was entertaining. I was NOT IMPRESSED. Lesson learned though.

A wise man once said;

“There are two sides to every story, then there is the truth”

:allright

How wise was he?

Only two sides and the truth?

There can be many many sides to a story.

Tip..... Just because somebody tells you something that you think is clever, doesn't necessarily mean that either of you are clever.

Ok?

Usually you do very good posts Monty. Please don't make me add you to my list of Retards. I know this is just a hiccup in your online career :clueless

Be lucky :clueless

a few years back in Singapore a fight broke out at a beer bar complex between a few locals and sailors off a US navy ship docked down the road..first it was 3 against 3,then calls were made and about 20 more locals appeared when the fight was not going thier way..now outnumbered 20 to 3 things took a very bad turn for the old salts..but what the locals were not aware of was there were 3 bars full of sailors next door, now things returned to a more favable turn for the old salts and the locals retreated after causing a little damage to the sailors and really pissing off some of the old vengful salts...a little while later one these locals involved in the altercation was walking down the street in downtown Singapore when "somebody" :D

sneaked up behind him and stuck him in the back and kept on walking as if nothing had happened. :ang2 ..

I read your posts on this and Secrets forum. In my mind you were ill treated. However if you spent there

4 hours and had only 4 beers, the sum of 3.000 bahts seems pretty high for me.

Even if as you told, you bought a lot of lady drinks and were very generous in tipping.

Somehow it doesn´t match.

A lot doesn't match. If I spend b3000 on ladie drinks (minus my 3 beers), I doubt I could shake the girl off me.

Also, if I am talking with (and buying drinke for) a girl and she goes to greener pastures, that's life. How does the OP not know this when he has been around the block.

How is it that I hear about all the stories and yet have not seen aything more than an occasional bin stuffing?

Somehow I suspect that the OP started the confrotation, even if not physically.

I was told by the security officer/policeman (?) I could press charges for assault, but really, what’s the point with a farang against Thais....

Papillon I know it's a big ask, but please try and pay at least a little bit of attention to what's written earlier on in the thread before you start cumming in your pants like an over excited school kid watching his first porno flick.

last night in Windmill my friend and I were violently assaulted by two young, naked thai girls. this was after buying one LD and two 20 baht tips. she attacked his member with her mouth and violated his fingers with intimate parts of her body. We will seriously have to reconsider whether we return to this bar again but, hey, someone has to do it!!!

This definitely comes under the category of "physical bothering" and must be outlawed immediately. It just goes to show how rude Thai people can be sometimes.

Well, it's been a week now and nothing further from BKKBarry.

I wonder if he's still in town and if the Mamasan did in fact press police charges against him? It was stated by owner or manager that she was going to do so.

Or, if he is just "all journaled out?"

Well, I was punched in the groin by Pink from Secrets at another Go-Go Bar we were at and after telling Secrets, I got an apology from management and a promise of a 'sit down" with the girl in question.

The "sit down" never happened, so it was all talk to make me seem happy.

Screw it...! File a police report, let them know you are serious about the matter

I walked past Windmill with last night's barfine and mentioned I had heard that the mamasan there was ting tong. She agreed with that assessment. It seems she had worked in New Living Dolls 1 before (as cashier?)
