We're thinking about hiring a taxi/tour in Bangkok to see the main sights, has anyone done this? is it worth the cost?

Thanks

Not unless you want to spend most of your day sat in a taxi in Bangkok. Combined skytrain/river taxi is the quickest/cheapest way to see the main sights.

Absolutely, Skytrain/Metro/ Ferry. Most sites are on the river. A one day pass for the train and off you go!

I did this. Saw a bunch of different temples, went to see the elephants, tigers, etc. Was a good time, but like the other guys said, i was in the damn taxi (going to and returning)probably longer than at the attractions themselves. Great many things to see in addition to the "nightlife" while in LOS.

I hired a guide in Bangkok and it was worth every baht. She picked me up at the hotel, and took me to the sights I wanted to see plus a few that I did not know about. We traveled by Sky Train, river boat, taxi, and canal boat. I paid for all expenses (mine and hers) including meals. I think she charged 1000 Baht a day plus expenses. I usually gave her more than that. She refused any tips, as she is not part of the tipping culture, so I gave her a "pay raise". I used her for a total of 3 days on two different trips. She even arranged for a private taxi to take me out to the Floating Market, the bridge at the River Kwai, and to Tiger Temple (great place). When I get back to Bangkok, I will hire her again.
