So, Is Pattaya Better for you, Worse, or the same?

Recommended Posts

2:00pm Thursday… Beer Garden…. today. Right now.

There is a nice wind coming off the sea. So cooling compared to yesterday. I'm sitting here recovering from last night's drinking and have a big hot coffee in front of me, while I look out across the bay, and the almost cloudless blue sky. I have nothing to do until later, so I'm just sitting here gathering my thoughts and appreciating the fact that I found this City many years ago.

There is no doubt that Pattaya and I have changed over the years. But which has changed most? I sometimes reflect on the cost in comparison to ten years ago and accept that it cost's me 30/40% more. For whatever reason. But does it? My income has increased over the same period by at least that much. So the effect on my bank balance is roughly the same.

What else has changed. I'm struggling with this. In this moment of almost sober contemplation, and looking at it objectively, virtually nowt has altered. I have had good and bad trips. (Haven't we all) In retrospect, the bad ones were caused by my attitude and lack of judgement at the time. I should never have come here then, expecting Pattaya to cure my miseries. I returned home just as miserable, and just as broke, doubting that I would return.

These days when I arrive here, I hit the ground smiling. Thanking Buddha that Pattaya is still here and functioning just as it always has. There are many more Bars, and therefore, many more Girls. Which means that there are many more 'Dogs' and many more 'Star Fish." But there are tens of thousands of Girls here and if I end up spending a night with one of the former, it's my fault.

I have made some very good friends here over the years, and each trip I look forward to meeting up with them once again and swapping stories. So, Pattaya has become a much more fulfilling place.

One day soon, I'm going to wake up wearing nappies and sucking soup through a straw, wondering where my life went. But I won't be too sad. I will only need to think of Pattaya, and I will probably die with a smile on my face. But in the meantime I'm going to soak up as much of Pattaya as my finances will allow, knowing that I can get laid every day, even at my age.

Thank you Buddha!

It was much better 10 or 15 years ago.

The internet and mobile phones have caused the demise of the GFE.

In my opinion what has changed Pattaya for the worst more than anything else is the proliferation of farang owned bars.

It is next to impossible to have a GFE experience with a hot 19 year old these days without her expecting you to buy a new wardrobe and a mobile phone.

I tried the LT GFE with a hot 19 year old for the last few days but she startef looking at phones in Tukcom so I had to let her go.

It is better now than one year ago because there are less customers so it's easy to get a hottie for 1000 or less.

The golden era of 10 years ago is gone forever but if you like ST uncomplicated sex then Pattaya is better than ever.

It seems like there are more pretty girls eager for custom perhaps due to less people being stupid enough to sponsor during the depression.

Overall I still say it is a great place to be.

It is the way of the world.... yes, it was far superior umpteen years ago. Darn before aids became popular it was all unprotected and much more fun!

Was sat at an MP having a coffee recently and the one pretty young thing who had just arrived mid afternoon straight from sleep asked me to give her 20 baht for food. I told her I had to work for my money and suggested she did the same! Scrounging tart.

I often sit in a fast food place and watch the goings on at a nearby gold shop, I still get a kick out of the farangs being led in there like a puppy dog.

Then I was at the motorcycle place waiting for a new battery to be fitted (10 minutes means 30 here), darn they were being led into there too, they must be on the TGF stage.

It's a mad mad mad place, but if yer head is screwed on... it's FUN!

Iv'e been here 4 weeks now with one to go and i have to say its definetly better, for me anyway. The quality of the girls i have been with this time far exceeds those of my previous trips. For what reason im not quite sure but it may be because my Thai is much better now and im much more particular who i choose these days. I now have the confidence to aproach the best lookers, something i was reluctant to do before. This comes from seeing absoultly drop dead gorgeous girls with guys 20yrs my seniour. I have also (finally) reached the point where i just won't tolerate any bullshit (attitude) from the girls and remind myself regularly that its all about money (for them). Another reason im sure is that i now spend nearly twice as much as i used too although old habits die hard and i still won't bar fine from GoGo's.

I have been comming to Thailand for over 30 years and i have to say the past 3 weeks have been the coolest i have ever experienced for this time of year here in Pattaya, its been great, especially on the golf course. Warming up the past few days.

Thanks for a great post before the "bread was a penny a loaf" and "gasoline was 30 cents a gallon" people took over. The good old days usually weren't good old days. People just tend to remember the good stuff and block out the bad. Ten years from now these will be talked about as the good old days. Except for the people that realize it is now and live it to the fullest.

The quality of the girls seems lower. The GFE isn't as good. The LD scams are more, as in the down a tequila in the gogos and want another , as do their friend, the service girl and the mamasan. I now check they aren't going to go and dance the minute they get a drink, ask them about performance and check what time they will leave the room.

Still a great place to spend the winter though.

PBG one of my best haunts say hello to Wi and OOT for me. I have only been to Patts 3 times,

but each time I learn more about the place and meet more great people.

Even after only 3 trips I tend to agree that things are not the same as my 1st trip

but I think thats always the case. I cannot forget when I,m home the feeling of sitting in the PBG

and watching the sea and perving on the waitresses. Then maybe waiting for the freelancers

to roll in and playin mind games with them.

I still work and my pay is adjusted up twice a year, so aint to bad off. The ozy$ 29b pretty good

I like my golf so its pretty good price wise. I have now decided to come twice a year.

Admitedly as i get older it is harder to catch the eye of a stunner, so I have lowered my

expectations and in doing so have had some great sex from the mature ones.

GFE I quite enjoy as long as it dont go too far. Goin to the markets dinner drinks etc

can be quite enjoyable for an old man.

I'll be back

Unfortunately the best days are gone. Yes, it was better 6 or 7 years ago. The exchange rates have made things much more expensive but I think maybe the main problem is that the quality of the whore-mongers has gone WAY down. Due to the scammers, beggars and general low life farangs, the girls have gotten harder and more mercenary. In the good old days the "HOW MUCH" question was rarely asked. The girls trusted that you would pay a reasonable price and that they would be rewarded for a better performance than was expected. The GFE was normal rather than the exception.

Living here now for over 6 Years, and to me it is getting better overall.

"The good old days are good and gone. That's why they're good, because they're gone." (Laudon Wainwright III)

Yes, you must be a 'bread was a penny a loaf' man too.

Beats being 'I am too young to know jack shit but still know more than you' type! :D

As I walked down the beach rd last night seeing the hoards of tarts and katoeys I thought this didn't used to be here. Some would have had a noodle stall in the past as they have well passed their sell-by.... but are re-inventing themselves. Then I nearly fell over a prone beggar lying legless in the middle of the walkway, cup extended. Then there is the guy with the eye-patch and various bandages hunting cash not sympathy..... showing little healing as the weeks pass. Those damed touts walking backwards into you, trying to get you to look at some silly card detailing a table tennis tournament.

"pattaya for the unskilled working man is shot now"

I am not so sure this will be a bad thing for pattaya having seen some of the behaviour. Perhaps they will go back to holidaying in spain again?

I think it's a great deal and I love the place but I am a newbie. I am young only 24 but I have tons of experience with the asian escorts here in Toronto.

When i see what i get for my vacation money in thailand and compare with other mongering countries it seems thailand comes out on top. BUT i do have the luxury of using company airmiles for my flights. Then there's the fact that I rarely drink and yes i got heckled all time for ordering water so i have a lot more to spend on the girls because my check bins are pretty low. I see myself coming here for a very long time unless my $ drops so much it would be cheaper to stay at home. But i guess I'm still seeing everything as a star eyed newbie.

If Pattaya is getting old or boring for you the just spread your wings and try a new mongering country :D

I arrived in Pattaya 10 years ago after doing most of my mongering, when I had time off from work, in Indonesia and PI. I still remember the many whingers on the Thai message boards then, complaining how much better Pattaya was in the nineties and before. Yes, Pattaya has changed in the last ten years of my time here, but mostly for the better. Infrastructure has improved, the price of accommodation and food has hardly gone up, transport has to be some of the cheapest in the world and bar fines, ST, LT has only increased marginally over my time here. The quality of the girls is just as good as it was before. You might just have to look a little bit harder to find the right ones. So stop whingeing you whingers. :D

I don't know what figures you're using but 10 years ago 100 quid would have bought you 6,200 Baht. To buy the same 6,200 Baht today would cost 132 quid and that doesn't take into account the 30%+ compounded increase in the cost of living in Thailand over the same period. That means you'd have to buy around 8,200 Baht to account for the increase in the cost of living - i.e. it would cost you almost 175 quid to buy the same as you did 10 years ago.

You just forget that in the same time (same 10 years)

your income (salary ?) as probably more than double :D

So yes it's looks far cheaper today, even for British... :gulp

I didn't forget at all. The guy I was replying to quoted his income as increasing by 30-40% over the same period. The point was that your income would have had to increase by 75% to have the same purchasing power as 10 years ago. It's the (UK) guys who started visiting around 5-6 years ago that will be noticing the price differences the most. 100 quid would have bought them 7,500 Baht 6 years ago. They'd now need 9,200 Baht just to keep up with inflation - that would cost them almost 200 quid in 'real' money today.

Pretty much what I see, facinating to see the farangs bike it and gold it after 2 days, led like dogs very true.

But your last line is spot on.
