i went for a haircut last night to a shop that i had not been to before

 

when i sat in the chair i was asked how short i wanted the cut

 

i said "nit noy"

 

the lady picked up a pair of electric clippers and started at my forehead

 

she proceeded to the back of my head and the result was a buzz cut

to the scalp

 

as i looked in the mirror with disbelief as i could see a 3'' strip of scalp

 

and the rest of my head was full of hair

 

i looked at the lady and asked her why she cut it so short

 

her reply was "you said nit noy"

 

i smiled at her and said ''yes i did thank you "

 

as a result i now look like the rest of you skinhead coonts

 

 

 

Yes, it isnt the best of hair cuts I have ever seen. Have you thought about buying a "syrup" to wear until it grows back again ???

i met a woman somewhere outside phuket -asked her how much to dye my hair black

she" i come to loom --i do for you"

so-- she comes to l;oom , i,ve got the "back to black" stuff

she perports to be a hairdresser btw

 

anyway puts it on , and rubs it in vigiourously, splasing it all about

it goes on the bed cover and shower curtain ect

and burns holes into them (ammonia in the back to black )

my neck and ears were still full of it after ,

still i considered myself a hansom man

we stayed together for the duration

I had to laugh. Not at you, but at the way Thai's make mistakes, because of the language barrier. While you and I know what you were asking for, she heard the opposite. At least it will grow back. The wonders of living in Thailand never stop.

If you spoke to them in the language of the country you are living in (Thailand), it's unlikely they would "make mistakes" so frequently.

 

The downside is that most of your funny stories about your encounters with Thais and their problems understanding you would then go away.

Was a bit of a shock first time, but I wouldn't mind betting you make it a regular thing now. I too am thinning on top a bit, so a hat during the day is a must for the sun.

 

It dries quick, you don't get shampoo in your eyes and no need to check it in the mirror before going out.

 

No downsides. Bet it doesn't put the ladies off either.

Well, you are right about that. I do have some stories about mis-communications with Thai's. I'm not sure that being able to speak as well as a 4 year old Thai child would help me much though. Bobby told her Nit Noy, a Thai word, but it was taken to mean the opposite of what he was thinking. A further explanation was needed. I can see myself in that same situation, even if I knew Thai, and thinking I had given enough instruction as to what I wanted, then getting something different. Maybe not in a hair cut situation, but something similar.

Years ago I went from Bangkok, where I worked, to Jomtien with a girlfriend. I needed a haircut and told the girlfriend to tell the barber how to cut it. I too felt the clippers go from front to back. I knew it was cutting very short because the clipper was cold on my scalp. No longer aggravated having long hair blowing in the breeze felt so good that I have never let it grow back out. If not for my girlfriend, I would have never had the nerve to have it all cut off. No regrets here, I'm still bald and loving it.
