Police closed bars on WS at 3am

All walking street shut down at 3:15 even insomnia and marine disco.

JP bar open and I heard that Marine 2 was open but didn't go there so cannot truthfully state it was open.

Just to update this topic...the police closures around 3am are still continuing regularly and on a daily basis.

 

Many gogos have now adapted to this by scheduling an earlier opening time and a regular 3am closing time, rather than staying open until the staff fall down from exhaustion.

 

I'm sort of liking it now.

 

Of course, you can still drink till the wee hours in Ibar and then Insomnia.

Having been in both the Philippines and Korea in the days of midnight curfews, there is absolutely nothing wrong with getting an earlier start and being happily tucked in bed at a reasonable hour.

I would like to understand this. Why do they close all the places on WS with girls but you can still go drink in a couple of places on WS? And there are freelancers everywhere.

It's not logical, that's the first thing to understand...and deal with.

Licensed bars, gogos and other indoor establishments will close, fearing the loss of their licenses or the arrest of their license holder.

 

Big bribes are paid to avoid these "problems", but many businesses cannot afford the bribes...and close accordingly.

You may also find - this was certainly the "logic" in many of the cases in Bangkok anyhow - you may find that the open places have different licences. Typically, they will have restaurant licences. This was the way the Thermae and Grace Hotel operated for a couple of decades, for example.

The big bribes are a given. My point was that big bribes by themselves aren't enough to keep a place open every day through thick and thin, never-ever closed. There is SOMETHING else, or several somethings. One possibility is a different licence type. That *is* common in Thailand.

You can buy popcorn at Insomnia, so they should consider a license change.

Just to update this thread, it appears the police closing of the bars has stopped. Bars on WS are now staying open late again...3:30, 4am or later.
