Have you ever been stopped by Customs coming INTO Thailand ?

Recommended Posts

Have been stopped once walking from the arrival gate to customs, couple of guys flashed their id's and wanted to have a look in my carry on bag.

Also had baggae xrayed once, but seemed just a cursory thing as nobody was even looking at the monitor when it was done.

There is no way it is one in ten. The last 2 times there must have been 100 people a minute leaving through nothing to declare as there were maybe 5 flights at once, and they weren't stopping 10 a min

High level drug arrests are made and publicised in downtown Bangkok and further - by the Customs Department. Imports to Thailand come from one or two places more than the Customs Hall of Suvarnabhumi

No. It means that the law forbids it.   .

At the peak of my business travels I had the misfortune of having over 120 arrivals and departures at the Swamp from jan 1 2007 to jan 1 2009.....I was probably asked to open my bags on 5 different ocassions and that I think is the quota required/odds, random searching of about 4% of all passengers.

On many ocassions as I was passing the xray machine prior to entering the arrival hall I saw others being searched. I would speculate if anyone who has never been stopped stood there and watched they would see they have a quick look in the luggage of 4 out of every 100 passengers.

Thanks MM does that mean i cant take two 75cl bottles then

Technically, yes.

Would I do it? Yes, of course I would. I'd pack them in my checked baggage and count on the odds being in my favor of not being searched, especially if they were good California Chardonnays :P

Never stopped in numerous trips to Thailand. Going to Mexico, on the other hand, I get checked almost every time

I wondered if anybody using fasttrak has been stopped. Since I started using fasttrak I have never been stopped or searched. The rep. walking with me hands everything over to customs and immigration for me. I barely miss a step as we walk out to the awaiting driver.

Fasttrak is a novel idea but what if you have checked baggage, what is the benefit of getting through imiigration quicker if you still have to wait for your luggage to come round the carousel, does the rep wait with you and then escort you out through customs ?

Nice, will he push my trolly all the way to my car parked in the parking area ?

Absolutely. But if you have a car parked, why use the service at all? The advantage for visitors is you get to your driver more quickly and can get your vacation underway. I have limited time in Thailand and hate to spend an hour + while the Russians and Indians try to figure out why the immigration folks will not fill out the forms for them. Or why they need to go up individually rather than 10 at a time.

After eighteen trips to Thailand in the last nine years, I have only ever had my bags X-rayed once, apart from that never been stopped or searched.

I remember having with me two liters of wine once and went to the goods to declare channel and declared it. Officer asked "is it for your own personal use" I replied yes, he replied OK no problem, go and sent me through the green channel.
