Funny I smoke a lot more when I'm in pattaya than I do at home. Like nearly a pack day vs just one or two cigs or none at all. I like to do what I normally cannot do in CA, like smoke in bars and fucking as many girls as my dick can handle.

I actually used to smoke, up to about age 35. It was my time in the USA that made me quit (I always said I would before 40)..... having to stand outside in Pittsburgh, PA, freezing cold because I was desperate for a ciggy. It just seemed so stupid! Edited by jacko

BS. You are free to not go places you know allow smoking. Smokers are free to not go places that don't allow smoking. If you want a naked Thai spinner bouncing on your lap, well, most of those plac

Smoking is an unhealthy addiction of mostly ignorant people who have no consideration for others and take every opportunity to call those "fascists" who refuse to support their disgusting habit. :)

Jacko, I smoke, and I have used these electronic Cigarettes, but only whilst on a flight.   Now if they were any good, or as good as a proper cigarette I would use them all the time, but sadly they

The owner of the establishment allows smoking. It's not your establishment.

No point, there is no way to get through to a closed mind.

I might agree with you but then 2 of us would be wrong.

Then don't go there. That's what freedom is about.

Freedom is about not being able to go somewhere because of the intolerable smoke??? :wtf

At least Pattaya gogo owners have packaged several things I hate into one convenient location - over-priced drinks, over-priced women, loud music, bad lighting, and of course the ever-present cigarette smoke.

Ok, I'm missing out on some nudity, but when I barfine a girl she always ends up naked in the privacy of my room. Win/win for me. :thumbup

To all the non-smokers replying to this topic, you must remember that nicotine is an extremely addictive substance. Two out of three smokers will die as a direct result of their addiction. Smokers know that cigarettes will eventually kill them, but the addiction is just too strong to resist.

If smokers know that what they are doing will eventually kill them, do you really think that they will be concerned about the harm and inconvenience it causes total strangers?

If I were addicted to nicotine I wouldn’t give a toss about what it was doing to others and I would come up with lots of arguments to justify my habit - and my breaking the law.

Funny. You're FAR less likely to find people smoking in BKK gogo's.

Yes the rule was imposed more strongly there, but I think I read on stick that recently it is loosening there too.

Libertarians used to say "Your freedom ends at the tip of my nose." Smoking doesn't pass that test.

Have you noticed the smile on your intended barfines face when you answer "No" to her "Do you smoke?" enquiry. Many of them hate smokers, who unbeknown to themselves actually stink.

Sure, you see enough of them smoking these days. I guess it is the old adage of them telling us what they think we want to hear.

It is the habit of convicts and prostitutes after all......:D

No matter what side you are on it is a fact that beer, bars and smoking go together, always have done and the smoking ban in the UK has coincided with the closure of more public houses that at any other time in their history. I have been both a smoker and non smoker but I distinctly remember when as a NS my friends and I would go to pubs and the fact that there were smokers lighting up with their drinks never occured me, I did not give it a second thought. I think a lot of the anti smoking brigade just like to poke their noses into other peoples' business and turn into the same lentil munching, Weeping Willy, jobsworth killjoys that have ruined the license trade and personal choice back in Falangland.

In Pattaya the punter is able to smoke or not smoke whereas Western drinking houses now only cater for the non smoker. If a non smoker comes to Thailand he is perfectly free to do his drinking in open bars, bars that have decided to enforce a non smoking policy or stay in Falangland. The smoker has no such choice.

The question of passive smoking is impossible to answer. Roy Castle, a very popular British non smoking entertainer died of cancer which he claimed was brought on by working in night clubs in which people smoked but this was only AFTER he was diagnosed. Then again there are many folk who have succumbed to the disease who have never set foot in a nightclub or even smoked as much as a single cigarette in their whole lives. Strangely Castle never objected to his audiences smoking in nightclub bars when his money was rolling in.

I suppose he would have struggled to blame second hand smoke prior to his diagnosis.

I am perplexed why smokers don't chose to use these electronic cigarettes when in a bar, which are cheaper and do not impact those around them.

Your association of the smoking ban being the demise of pubs in the UK is creative. By that logic nobody would use planes and airports.

Even in open air bars the number of smokers is relatively small.

Nothing like the minority dictating to the majority.

I've said it a million times. I don't give a shit about the punters. It's those that are exposed to it day in and day out that we should be concerned about.

99.99% of the world is out of doors after all. Just because Pattaya bar ownwers (and no where else) flaunt the law is no excuse.

Those electronic cigarettes do not come cheap.

As soon as the smoking ban came along many smokers started boycotting pubs especially in the winter months. While other factors have contributed to the demise of many pubs the landlords mainly blame the smoking ban. They are the ones who should know.

You go into a pub to relax, chat with your friends and get away from day to day pressures whereas we go to airports and use planes only out of necessity. No one goes to an airport or flys in planes to socialise so it is not the same logic at all.

Well in the UK I go to a pub for a pint and to meet friend or two, and hopefully enjoy the taste of my beer without it being tainted by cigarette smoke.

I think you should go to Starbucks, they offer the same facilities. Surely having a cigarette with a cup of coffee is as natural as having one with a pint.

I wouldn't believe what a landlord tells you, they can't even tell time!

Champagne does not enforce it. Always people smoking in there, at least in the afternoon.

Last time I was in there I was lighting up without problems, but that was Christmas time, if the owners want the Baht they will let this stupid ruling slide !!!!

Interesting comments Simon. I have had the same issues and in fact it has lead to rolling around on the floor with security sorting it out. The sad thing for me is that I am in a place where legally there is no smoking. I simply ask for a change of position of ash tray and I am attacked. This has not just happened one and I see it as a similar situation to the famous Oscar Wide saying. It was about fox hunting but went, "The unspeakable chasing the uneatable."

Smoking will in the end go the same way as fox hunting but not without smokers defending their patch till the bitter end. In some ways I dont blame them (being an ex smoker) but by being a bit more considerate they will put the day off and threads like this will have much less venom.

I was out and about last night and as most places were quiet never had an issue with a smoker....... from the customers.

Some nights it works out okay..... others you get a chain smoker plonking themselves next to you everywhere you go..

I was watching the girls help themselves to drinks and also noticing how many were walking around with an idiot stick in their fingers.... they seem to be taking up the habit more and more. I suppose it is a tedium helper.
