The drugging risk has been threaded here before from time to time and is an ever-present risk. It pays to take some precautions and keep your wits about you. The more you drink, then the more important the precautions are. Seems a little hard to believe that a girl would go through with this when she's had to provide her ID at the hotel's front desk. 'Would NEVER, under any circumstances, open my in-room safe with the girl there - MAYBE if she's in the bathroom or out on the balcony or something. If it's a matter of money, just tell her you have to get to the ATM first thing in the morning.

Diamond Beach hotel collects IDs but it appears 3 times on this list. Fake and stolen IDs aren't difficult to obtain, surveillance cameras may be more effective in apprehending perpetrators, as was the case in one of the homicides, where the woman used a stolen ID:

I have a radio app on my phone so I listen to Pattaya 105 quite a lot when I am at home, the local news stories do make me smile. Every day there is at least one story where a victim has been found naked in his room the next day, and the hotels CCTV footage has always failed to catch the perpetrator leaving the hotel even if ID was left at reception. :whistling:

It's a dangerous world. Take precautions. I'm not saying any of these people deserved it but I bet in most cases it could have been avoided with a few precautions.

It's not an event that the uninitiated consider when they go on holiday. Unless they've been to Pattaya before and heard of it happening they would not have a clue. I've got friends, mainly older blokes who come to Pattaya and of the few that know how to turn a computer on only a small percentage regularly read these forums. I had never anticipated being slipped a Mickey Finn no matter where I've been on holiday till I was aware of such an activity being comparatively widespread in Pattaya.

The Thais are not going to put warning signs up on public display, they even considered banning the Evil Man Of Krabi song about the young Dutch girl who got raped recently. Publicity regarding a few deaths from druggings, robberies, various scams and a vicious rape must not hinder the flow of cash into the LOS at any cost. Money number one.

This is an evil thing to do, and there have been numerous fatalities as a result. As administering these substances is only possible by either mixing them into a drink or, less likely, stirring them into food, it seems to me that precautions are very difficult to take if you have an unknown in your room, or are sitting in a bar. Who watches his drink with undivided attention and never goes to the toilet during a bar conversation or when the lady du jour is in his room?

Check if the drink tastes funny before glugging it, after glugging several beforehand? Search the lady for drugs to enhance the romantic passion?

Certainly you can ensure that nothing valuable can be stolen from your room if the worst happens (though your watch, mobile and money on your person will be gone), but being drugged into a stupor or killed is a serious matter in itself.

Maybe I'm unimaginative, but what are the effective 'precautions' referred to and possible, apart from not going out, not inviting girls back to your room, not drinking in anyone's presence or perhaps not getting too pissed to register something wrong? I suggest gut-feeling is the only protection you can have, but there are obviously some very nasty yet apparently believable people out there.

Well, I'd say you simply DO have to hawk your drinks, no matter how many you've had. If you're out alone & headed for the toilet, either finish it or order a fresh one when you get back. 'NOT saying it can't happen but less likely to be served a drugged drink than to have it monkeyed with after. Maybe save your heaviest drinking for the bars that you know & trust and that maybe know you. Back in the room, simply don't accept a drink from the lady guest unless you see her open it and it never leaves your sight (reading about it here like it happens all the time, but in 20y+ I've never had a girl try & do that). If you are drinking in the room, then again, either take it with you into the bathroom, or drink whatever you want of it before going and then consider the rest discarded. Possibly more important, try not to do stuff to be "targeted" in the first place. Don't wear expensive jewelry, don't flash wads of cash or a wallet full of credit cards, don't piss off the locals, try and stay beneath the radar. Some guys will insist that freelancers are a greater risk than girls from bars. DO pay attention to your gut feelings. If you're getting any red flags, they may be false positives or they may not, but play it safe and just move on right away. Oh, and don't be using drugs to begin with! It's just not a perfect world, and there are no 100% fullproof precautions, but I believe you can greatly lower the odds of becoming a victim. (BTW - these substances we're talking about are I'm pretty sure all odorless, tasteless, and colorless; don't expect to be able to taste-test or otherwise detect them in your drink, no matter how sober you are.)

There's another thread here somewhere - a few years old now I think - discussing these drugs and their effects in some detail. If this is a concern for you, it might be worthwhile to dig it up.

The conventional wisdom is that it's safest to take a girl from a go go bar or any establishment where she is known. I guess a beer bar would do. If you do that, you have some recourse. Surely the bar owner has some idea who she is. As for the drugging part? Don't have an open drink around a girl you've just picked up. And don't get too drunk.

And another one bites the dust

http://www.pattayaon...ian-accomplice/

Interesting that a Russian woman was acting as an accomplice. I wonder if she knew the guy had so many valuable items sitting available in Bang Saray?

As an aside, can anyone tell my why going to a Pattaya One page causes my computer to 'hang' for about 30 seconds. Can't do anything and the HDD is working like crazy. (Windows Vista, Firefox with Adblock?)

One idea as a drugging prevention method is to get your hotel guards to call your room before they give the girl back her ID to check if you are OK.

Sure, it's not fool proof as if the girl handed over some fake ID she could just hoof it out the back. But if you let the gal know about cameras and your ID check system it may, MAY, save you from this shit.

Another is not to have $50,000 in your room.

Almost makes you wonder if it is some insurance scam.
