My boss is married to a Thai and owns quite a bit of property in Thailand. He will retire there and she has quite a large family there. (Yes he paid the family's farm off for them!) Anyway, he is always correcting me that this is the correct way to pronounce it. :clueless

If he is correcting you to say "P'tie/ah", then he is wrong.

 

The correct way is pa-tuh-YAA with the emphasis on the last syllable. Well, at least that's the way the Thais say it.

Geoff's a great guy , he is from Manchester and that quirky northern accent catches a few people out , i have had a few good bar crawls with him and he is as straight as a die , what you see is what you get.....!
