With my hand currently stitched and bandaged up tight, ive been at a loose end without anything to do lately, so took the old man for a visit to RAF Museum Hendon for the day.
Very close to the city. Just hop on the Northern Line and get off at Colindale tube station and its about a 10 min walk down the road. Entrance is free, there is a coffee shop in the central area and a seperate restaurant on the grounds as well. Its a great day for old and young alike, and if your in London, then a visit here should be a must

Great photos as usual firth 1974, wouldn't mind a visit there myself but unlikely anytime in the near future.

Built a couple of the planes as a youngster with Airfix and Revell model kits, anybody remember them, do you still get the kits ?

Thanks for posting.

Regards

Even as an American I have pride in our British mates' military history. The RAF and the Battle of Britain, for instance.

Great photos!

And by the way - I doubt that there are any serious exhibits in America that are free to the public.

Smithsonian Air and Space Museum is free. Wright Patterson Air Force Museum is free.

There are similarities bongo, particularly the engine cowling, but I think it is a Curtis P-40 Warhawk.

Any experts out there ?

If your on about one of the last photos with the aircraft in desert camo, that is a Curtis Kittyhawk.(close but no cigar).

It was tail number PR536 that had me wondering, but, yes, it looks to be the variant of the Tempest without the air scoop.
