Displayed prices are for multiple nights. Check the site for price per night. I see hostels starting at 200b/day and hotels from 500b/day on agoda.

Hi there. I really want to commit to Chiang Mai next trip to Thailand and intend to book hotel and airfares. I have at this stage decided on staying at the Pornping Towers. From what I can read it is in the thick of things and it is a reasonable price. Has anyone stayed there and have a recommendation. Does it have a joiner fee?

Stayed at the Pornping last month. No issues with the room and felt it was fair value for the quality of the room (1,324B/night through Agoda). No joiner fee either.

Saturday Market

Not quite as popular as Sunday Walking Street Market, on Wualai Road just south of the old city, from 5 to 10 PM.

I didn't spend much time on Loi Kroh this trip

After a visit to the Sunday Walking Street Market, it's nice to veg-out with a Long Island Iced Tea at the THC Rooftop Bar near the Tapae Gate and enjoy some views of the city.

The other night after a few drinks I got onto the Internet and booked at ridiculously low prices a return trip to Chiang Mai using Bangkok Air and even cheaper accommodation at the Pornping hotel. Thanks for getting me out of my rut and getting me out of Pattaya for a break.

I booked the promotional fare on Air Asia, 590 baht each way from Bangkok. Some people like to take the train but air fares are so low it doesn't make sense unless I'm bringing my motorcycle. Chiang Mai is a lot of fun with lots of things to do but mongering options cannot compare with Bangkok or Pattaya.

  • 1 year later...

For this visit, I decided to try the night train. First class ticket was 1450, plus an extra 500 for a private berth, not up to Euro standards but still comfortable, although quite cold. Brought my own food, cigars, Jack Daniels, and Bluetooth headphones. The train left Hua Lamphong station at 7:30 PM and took 13 hours.

Usually don't sleep well on the train, but there was some nice morning scenery.

What seems like a lifetime ago I used to travel to CM once a week for a year to attend meetings... None of this report resembles the CM I knew...

As somebody else said, you have re-awakened my interest and I shall take a trip there next year....too many things planned for this year already..

Thanks very much!!!!
