Update on discounts

The Bite Me discounts for local groups and forums have been suspended - too confusing, too many problems!

We are looking at how to say thank you to our loyal customers in the future but for now we hope you understand, and we will always keep our prices as low as possible anyway :)post-57906-0-67248000-1459133187_thumb.jpeg

Having previously dabbled until my camera broke, I am now a complete devotee of Bite Me Food Porn. On the "discounts" topic, surely better to give frequent faces the odd free starter, or an unexpected "it's on the house" - just my opinion. Any chance of you opening near my home in France???

After drooling at all these pictures I can't stay away. I'm going to drop in for a meal this afternoon.

It's definitely worth a visit...and if you like desserts, there are some really good ones there...crepe suzettes, chocolate fondant, and many others I can't recall, though the choices rotate weekly.

Dropped in last night and I was quite pleased.

Started out with two appetizers, the bruschetta and the arancini. Both were great, the bruschetta was dripping with olive oil, eggplants and shrooms, the arancini had what I took to be a dill tartar and beetroot sauce.

Still felt a bit peckish so I asked if I could just have a pasta (off menu). The waitress brought me a "cheese pasta" (gorgonzola sauce I think), also flavored with dill. Delicious.

The red wine of the house was serviceable at 120 baht per glass -- high praise in a country where ridiculous booze taxes mean most house wines are undrinkable plonk.

Since I ended up having more appetite than I thought I would, I wish I had done the set menu. Will try that next time.

Yeah, it's kind of visually putting me off too...I might try it though, but I'll probably have to close my eyes at first.

Tastes like chicken?

Tastes like chicken?

probably a good idea, in case the saying "once you go black you never go back" applies after your first bite.

Yes like a slightly gamey chicken

Just had the black coq au vin for lunch; it was delicious. The Internet cafe where I'm sitting now won't let me insert my SD card, so I'll post pics later. The chef at the Rock Kitchen and her partner were also having the day's special while I was there.

640.jpg Not your KFC chicken.

I had silkie chicken before in China. As said, it has a bit more gamey taste than Western industrial chicken, as silkies are genetically different and generally free-range. Of course, the slow cooking and wine and cherry marinade has done away with any gamey taste in the Bite Me version. The meat isn't jet black but more of a greyish color. The couscous, which also contained quinoa, was outstanding.

So if you've ever been curious about a bit of black cock- I mean rooster- Bite Me's coq au vin would be a good place to start.

Here's the pics from my lunch at Bite Me.

It was quiet around 2 pm, only four other guests.

This was the day's special, black coq au vin with Mediterranean couscous. It cost 250 baht and a bottle of SML was 75 baht.

The color of the chicken is unusual, but the taste is great. Coq au vin is a French dish that goes back to the Gauls and Romans. It's traditionally been a way to prepare the meat of older, tougher birds like roosters by braising them in wine, with lardons and mushrooms for added flavor. It's come down through the years as a rustic dish that became popular in the 20th century.

However, it can be difficult these days to find roosters and other 'tougher" poultry that has a lot of connective tissue and stand up well to hours of slow cooking. That's why silkie chicken is a good substitute. It has a bit more gamey taste than agribusiness chicken which adds to the overall taste of the dish.

IMG_0686.jpg

As said, the cherry and wine marinade, as well as the slow cooking, tamed the gamey-ness but still left the meat with a lot of flavor.

The bones were only thing left on my plate.

Bite Me has distinguished itself by giving traditional dishes a new twist through creative use of non-traditional ingredients. The presentation of its dishes has also been striking. It terms of both taste and value for money, it's one of the best places to eat in Pattaya.

Bite Me: Slowly cooked lamb with mint leafs and gnocci.

Nice restaurant with stylish decor, true minimalist... In the firs minute I was surprised about the limited menu... But a few minutes later understand the reason: The chef personally prepare every plate with high attention, like an artist... and yes, the food on the plate is simple handcraft.

My lamb food: For the first sight I don’t knew if the plate was too big or the portion small.... Looking on it in front of me on the table, the portion looked OK... And... the first disappointment: There were only meat chips, not a piece of lamb. OK, ok... I know nowadays trendy the „ pulled meat „ concept, which may be OK with pork or chicken, but not with lamb... ( Reminds me the russian food: caviar in pancakes... waste the caviar in fatty dough ) It was slowly cooked in wine... so the wine dominated the food, the taste of the lamb lost in the process. The gnocci was fine, soft and just right. And the second disappointment: I finished my food surprisingly fast, whilst my friends don’t ate the half of their food... and suddenly realized over the empty plate: I’m still hungry. ( 320 baht )

bme1.jpg

bme2.jpg

I tasted my friend’s food too.

The chicken food was really delicious, a strange, but very nice concept accompanied with polenta what is an eastern european heavy, peasant food, but in this case it was made very light and fine. Probably the reason, my friend also moaned about the minimalist style of the portion. ( 200 something )

bme3.jpg

The steak was simple perfect and huge. It was ordered „ well done „ and still tender... I must to mention a side taste ( maybe some marinade ? ) on the surface of the meat, what was an unique and fabulous, something similar tasted in the Caucasus. Served also with the fine polenta. The steak sauce was also very good. ( 480 baht )

bme4.jpg

I red here, the Sweet spot now cooperate with the bistro, so I was surprised to see only the 3 different desserts.

The dessert: Chockolate lava.
It was a masterpiece... The hot chocolate in the crispy cover combined with the sourish sauce and the sourish berries... simple perfect. However... the thai girl with us talked something with the thai waitress and told me, it is big, let”s eat one together. The word big is a baroque exaggeration, it would be small for me alone. ( 120 baht )

bme5.jpg

Small soda: 25 baht

Verdict: My food was probably a tragic mistake by the concept... at least for my very own and biased taste. The other foods were fine and tasty... something special and good, but... Ok, I know, I know this place is to to gobble like a pig, but if I need to eat a half bar chocholate with a half bottle Fanta at home following a main and a half dessert... Whatever....

Similar pricing to the Bistro.,@23, we don't make you pay for the view!

Back to the Bistro - This Monday's special our signature dish... Sesame Seared Rare Tuna served with a Seaweed and Pickled Vegetable Salad and Ponzu Dressing - main course at only 290 baht instead of 390!

A hint for tomorrow's special, a 'different' pizza. Chef Ewan likes to add his own slant on things :)
