Airport pickup options

Recommended Posts

Ok so its been a while since my last solo trip to pattaya and i am evaluating the airport pick up options.

Previously i have used MrT who has been efficient every time, was looking at maybe something a bit more VIP and then there is the devils den bus option or similar OR i could bin that lot and hire a car and drive myself in which case i would want something a bit nicer than the bog standard options. I was also thinking i may shell out for one of those VIP escorted landing packages, greeted off the plane, golf buggy ride and swift immigration ?

So suggestions please on all 3 subjects plus personal reports of anyone you have used and recommendations if you would use them again.

Thanks

One time I didn't want to fool around and hired one of the "limousines" you can hire right at the airport. I think the cost was 3300 baht to Pattaya. Three times the going rate, but the guy was very polite and actually drove safely. The car was a model I'd never seen in my life. I don't know if I do it again, but I can't complain except for the price.

Whatever happened to the service that offered a minibus with 2 girls in the back to get the fun started? that was back in the 90's I think

Devils Den offer this service, and having been picked up in aforementioned bus I can vouch for the comfort factor.

Are you thinking of PottyHead of Misty's "great valued venture" back then?

I think Secrets, Mistys and Devils Den all had such a service well into the 2000's, 2010's, but I'm not sure which ones still offer the service.

  • 2 weeks later...

This morning I Googled airport taxis in Bangkok and there seems to be a number of options for 1000 baht all up. I personally see no reason to pay more. I would however like to see any other personal recommendations from boardies

I have been using Mr. T for years without problems until last month. I had a day time arrival and as usual went to entrance three but no driver. I rang his number and they chased it up and got back to me quickly. The bloody man was hanging about outside awaiting me and I headed off to see if I could find them but ended up back at the start. We eventually hooked up after another call, although he didnt come into the arrival hall, and off we went. Needless to say he also stopped to gas up and gave me a grumpy look when I offered no tip.

As a post script I did email my complaint to Mr T and have so far seen no response. I think it is time I spread the my net a bit wider.

Try Nams taxis. I've used her a few times and she or her drivers are always on time for me. Good drivers, not racers, 1200Baht

PT Taxis get my vote, decent cars and drivers but occasionally they do stop to refill with LPG just outside pattaya which only takes 10 mins.

Why does it take so long to refuel? Is this when they are filling with liquid gas and not petrol/diesel? Just curious.

Yes, LPG gives it away. They have to get everyone out of the vehicle while they fill up..

Personally I would rather be in a regular petrol or diesel vehicle... heard of too many incidents of LPG vehicles catching fire.

I also get the feeling that they have designated filling points perhaps where they get a better deal They are prepared to wait for ages rather than look elsewhere.

More exactly there are only a few places where you can get it. More about that than the price I think. They usually have large LPG signs. I know there is one near me, just South of the #36/Sukhumvit junction on the South bound side. Plus another just after 36 on the motorway heading towards the airport. Always regarded them as a pain for a taxi as there is no space in the boot for the suitcase.

For me, Mr. Toom has always been reliable. Been using him for years with zero incidents. That being said, to me it's all just YMMV. Whatever you're comfortable with is what you'll stick to.

I don't need anything fancy or big or whatever (though the Toom drivers and cars have always been good). I just want a ride.

Is Mr Toom still 1000 baht all up?

Me too.... once or twice I have had a slightly rough vehicle, shocks due replacement for example, but for many many years he has been reliable. Toom charges 1200 pick-up, 1000 drop-off.

As noted above, Nam's Taxi for me.

http://www.namstaxipattaya.com

They use only Lady Drivers, who tend to drive a bit slower then Mr T's cowboys, and usually are a bit friendlier , too.

They have instructions to fill up before pick up, avoiding the Queue at the gas station.

I have personally used her service many times now, and she has now a reputation for efficient booking, safe and friendly drivers, and being reliable.

For the OP, who asked for recommendations for something a but more VIP then the rock bottom options, I think the extra 200 bt she charges on top of the MrT price from Suvarnabhumi to Pattaya is well worth it.

I agree regarding Nam's Taxis. I was picked up this morning on time and had a pleasant safe and not too slow drive to the airport. Driver was the same one that picked me up on the way in, who spoke good English and absolutely better than the Grand Prix driver (in his own mind when he was fully awake!) I've used in the past (not Mr T).

(Do I use too many brackets?)

The sites that do the fast track services usually have a package meet and greet+fasttrack and they offer a range of limousines,BFS start at 850 for the card and escorts to 5000+ for the top limousine.Dont think there's any hanky panky though.

I've been using Mr T for the past few years ... and the drivers have always been reliable .... BUT .... after recent ... and yesterday's drive back to Pattaya from the airport ... which was scary shit! ... I think it's time for a change!

I've finally figured out that the "Amazing" in "Amazing Thailand" .... is that it's foookin AMAZING that these stupid foookin drivers don't crash more!

It never fails to startle when they accelerate up to 120km/h or more ... to within a meter or two of the car in front ... which is too big for them to see past!

For a few baht more .... I don't think it's worth the risk of being a statistic anymore! .... so I've just e-mailed Nam ... so will hopefully not shit me pants on the way back to the airport for me flight home! :thumbup

We booked the Bell bus service from Airport to Hotel door

Works out around £5.50 each roughtly

I have used them before when I flew in from Manilla. They are safe and reliable....BUT the schedule does not work for me coming from USA. Departure times are 0800 to 1800 every 2 hours and my flight gets in around midnight. Sucks to wait 8 hours
