HBO announced the Deadwood movie premieres May 31, 2019 !!! https://www.hbo.com/deadwood/movie-what-to-know-so-far

We just returned from vacation.  Worn, tired and bad weather we stayed home this last weekend.  Binge watched season 3 of the Last Kingdom on Netflix.  Simple, easy to follow, very watchable like the first two seasons.  I think my wife has the hots for the star although she will not admit it.

Speaking of Daniel Craig.  We watched Casino Royale on Netflix, the reboot of the James Bond series and Daniel Craig's premiere as Bond.  Excellent movie.  Craig is a first class Bond - swept the wife off her feet when the movie premiered 12-13 years ago.  She admitted it then....I cannot image her ever fooling around on me, BUT - I would never leave her alone with him....

Another series we finished over the weekend on Netflix (I think) was Bad Blood.  A mafia drama set in Montreal.  At times watchable, I found it somewhat boring, a cheap Godfather knockoff (they blatantly stole several key lines).  The wife liked it more than me.  Perhaps because one of the main stars was also in Sons of Anarchy, a big favorite of hers.

Last Kingdom....Shame it's over.

Thanks for the reminder about the series. Just downloaded season 3 and now binge watching it. Great series! Did a quick search and see they've announced the series has been renewed, but no release date yet.

Yes I'd heard series 3 was to be the last..........I held back from watching because I thought that would be it. A bad cough that's lasted two weeks up to today, (nearly gone...the girl that shared it with me had it for a month).....has meant me being confined to quarters so I've clocked up quite a bit of TV. Last Kingdom was a hi-light. Glad it's returning.

Ploughed on through 'Punisher', 'Manifest', 'The Good Dr', (which is great).......'Orville' which is a quirky cross between family Guy and Star Trek...."What's a relationship dad?' ......"It the  bit before the end" .....Even the awful, Strike Back.......Which has deteriorated over the last two seasons from what was a powerful shoot 'em up action thriller.

Oh yes I had some DVDs of 'Are You being Served' which I throughly enjoyed seeing again.

But the best two films I've seen in a long time were, 'Forrest Gump' which I'd somehow missed out on and the fantastic, 'Green Book' hope it gets an Oscar

Couldn't get into "the Punisher", gave up after S01E05. After I start "Black Earth Rising" as suggested by BM Blackwell (and I'm looking forward to it actually) I'll give "The good Dr" a go.

I agree with Forrest Gump, it's an enjoyable family movie and Tom Hanks is great as Tom Hanks playing Tom Hanks. I will always watch it if I'm channel hopping and it's on, regardless of how far through it is.

Not seen Green Book, might give that a look this weekend if I get an afternoon free.

Lately on my Android box....Highwaymen....with Kevin Costner as TX Ranger Hamer tracking down Bonnie and Clyde was good. Better than the other Bonnie&Clyde films. Hamer gets the respect he deserves...(what a life he had)....

And enjoyed a film called 'Polar' lots of blood and violence.

Ditto 'Message Man' though the male lead is as wooden as they come.

Watched The Highwaymen last night and agree it was pretty good. Woody looked older than Costner but that may have been intentional. Part of me wanted to see B&C with more screen time, but that wasn't the point of the movie and I get that. Anyway, thanks for mentioning the movie. :D

Good news for fans of the HBO Series "Deadwood". A movie featuring at least 12 of the original cast members, set ten years later has gone into production!

https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/deadwood-movie-hbo-ian-mcshane-timothy-olyphant-trailer-release-date-a8619736.html

The plot synopsis is currently rather cryptic, with HBO revealing: “The indelible characters of the series are reunited after 10 years to celebrate South Dakota’s statehood. Former rivalries are reignited, alliances are tested and old wounds are reopened, as all are left to navigate the inevitable changes that modernity and time have wrought.”

Went on Wednesday to see Avengers Endgame.........First Class at Central is now 1000 baht, so made a pig of myself with the food.

I'm glad I've recently re-watched most of the  films worked into this 11 year cycle. Fully clued up I probably got the most from it.

Exciting, very funny on occasions, dramatic, sad......fulfilling. Best cinematic (nearly 3 hours) experience for me personally since the Godfather. First time since I was a kid that I considered going straight back inside and watching it again.

Six ****** out of 5 from me.

I had a few days of business in Las Vegas this week.  So we headed out early last Friday, 19 to spend a nice weekend where it is warm (been unseasonably cold here in S Cal the last few months.  Barely made 65 degrees today at the beach!  Simply has been a horrid winter and spring so far).  Wife flew home Monday morning.  I remained for my, uh....business meetings (hum, perhaps I should start a new thread - why I like Las Vegas...).

Neither of us gamble (I gave it up decades ago when one night in London my first wife got her clock cleaned at Les Ambassaduers  while I was flirting with an incredibly beautiful blackjack dealer in another room.  But Vegas has absolutely incredible restaurants, shows, people watching and an amazing social scene.  We usually have a half way decent time.

After relaxing at the hotel for a couple hours and a bottle of wine, we headed out for some food and adventure.  Started at her new favorite restaurant,  Yardbird Southern Table & Bar     https://www.venetian.com/restaurants/yardbird.html

Busy, very popular place.  Open (in Vegas) for around 1.5 years.  Still extremely difficult to get a reservation.  When its just the two of us or on my own try to get a seat at the bar (can be a challenge) where you can also eat.  We lucked out and were able to get  bar seats within minutes.  We came across the original Yardbird in Miami 2-3 years ago (hotel recommended it).  Our waiter recommend one of their specialties, Waffles & Fried Chicken (who the boink would want waffles and chicken I thought).  "Seriously" I asked?  "Sir, we have people who travel from near and far for it...".  One of the best meals I have ever had!

A couple seats next to us at the bar opened, two couples crowded in.  Fun, we all drank too much, ate too much, after three hours headed down the Strip drinking even more.  Woke up the next morning feeling like warm puppy pooh.  Around 1 pm I turned the TV on.

Okay, you are wondering why I am writing ALL this in a thread about movies and TV?

Eventually we began the 5th season of Bosch on Amazon Prime.

Seasons 1-4 were incredible!  Season 5 started out very, very strong.  Each episode got better and better. Around the 4th or 5th episode I said "We should get cleaned up and get ready to go out".  "No, no, just one more...".  6th episode, "Lets go", "No, no, just one more...", 7th - "No, no, just one more...".  After the 8th I turned the TV off said get in the shower.  "But we can order pizza instead and finish" said the brat who normally is up for any excuse to dine and socialize, especially in Vegas would rather watch Bosch than go out on a Saturday night.  Amazing!  We got out close to 10 pm !!!

Sorry guys.  A long way to go to say Bosch is really, really good.  Watch it!

I'll have to give the Bosch series a look. But what I'd really like to know, how was the Waffles & Fried Chicken?

It was amazing.  I was surprised.  Apparently not an unusual offering in the deep south of America.

Have to applaud you BD for recommending 'Bosch'.

Well written.....slowly evolving cases.

Bosch puts a lid on his inner emotions and deals phlegmatically with everything thrown at him. Even as a subordinate he's always in charge. Just finished 4 seasons.

Cheers.

Chernobyl on Sky.

Excellent acting, some very good cinematography and good build up to the tense moments, well directed and only 5 parts so it's not a big long term commitment. No "filler" episodes and overall, it was really enjoyable, arguably the best series I've watched this year so far.

They got a couple of things wrong, but to be honest the fast paced storyline makes up for it, along with an interesting angle on the KGB and their workings.

I recommend "Fauda" from Netflix. Israeli commando unit vs. Arab militants. A never-ending cycle of reprisals / revenge and how everyone loses. Downer? Yes, but also very absorbing.

It's a foreign language series (Hebrew and Arabic) so you'll need to read the subtitles.

My mate in UK says Chernobyl is great.......I'll have to watch when I'm in the mood for 'tense frightening and perhaps prophetic.......But I get enough of that watching England play.

Into 'Warriors' at the moment.......From Cinimax, who did 'Spartacus' and 'Fight Back'......Set in San Francisco in the 19th century.....based on some Bruce Lee writings so you'll get the picture of Tong wars and kung Fu bedazzling the white man fights...Tough Irish police monopoly......Corrupt 'Duck' (Chinese name for white man) politicians. moving the chess pieces  around, preaching intolerance of Chinese crime and drugs on one hand while secretly encouraging and cashing in on the cheap Chinese labour......While the 'Onions'...(Chinese name for themselves.....bald heads and pig tails)......fight for control of China town......Lots and lots of black fish-nets, bodices and sloe -eyed tarts to admire in the town's brothel.

If you can forget the preachy social commentary links to present day US immigration issues and lap up the bloody violence and the tits you'll have a ripping time.......Right up my street anyway!

Why not?  She'd come back a new woman - or maybe that's what you're afraid of...:yikes:

For me, it's BLACK MIRROR - just one at a time because they are so powerfully dystopian - series 3, 4 and 5 now on Netflix here.  Watched S3 Ep1 last night, about the artificial bees that replace the real ones that are dying out.  Whenever I'm SERIOUSLY bored, that's just the ticket.

I have been watching HBO's True Detective season 3

Mahershala Ali is brilliant. He plays three ages. The last being his character as an old man. I won't say more than that.

Then I have to finish season 2 of "The Deuce" which is about the seedy times of the south of Times Square area. 1970s. Three episodes to go.

Then I am thinking Chernobyl. Thanks to you guys for the recommendation.

I saw Peter Jackson’s “They Shall Not Grow Old” at my local theater.  It’s an amazing documentary film on World War I about a war that I must admit I did not know much about.

At the showing that I attended, after the credits, there was a special 30-minute clip by Peter Jackson explaining how he turned 100+ year old silent B&W film into color with dialogue and sound effect.

I don’t know if the impact of this documentary film will be the same on a small TV screen or computer monitor so see it on a big theater screen if possible.   The sound effect of the artillery shells exploding needs surround sound speakers to feel the concussion.

I finally saw it on Eva IFE.  Yes, big screen would be better but that will be hard to find now.  It starts fairly routine and even grimly humorous.  The recruiting sergeant telling a big 15 year old that, yeah, he looks 19.  Then it gets very real both in narrative and images.

I watched the first three episodes of "Chernobly" today and WOW!

This is one of the best docudramas I have ever seen.

A great cast. Great writing. "Chernobyl" fills in a lot of missing knowledge on the severity of the situation, their difficulties within a closed society, while undescoring the courage of many, many people.

In my opinion it is a must see and thank those who recommended it as I was a bit hesitant to watch it initially.
