Christmas Dinner Options 2019 (updated Dec. 18)

Recommended Posts

If you haven't made any plans for Christmas dinner, now would be a good time to make a decision. The popular places are likely to be booked solid , although from what I hear, seats are still available at nearly all restaurants.

The best value-for-money option I have seen is still the all-you-can-eat buffet for 500 baht at the Chik 'n Coop bar in the arcade that is a 50-meter walk south of Kiss Food. There's more info on it earlier in this thread.

To continue the Scandinavian theme:  Livv on th Darkside and Akvavit in Jomtien:

Here's a translation of the Akvavit Christmas Eve menu:

"Akvavit's Christmas buffet showcases a giant and traditional Christmas buffet with lots of delights!
The 24th of December:

"First session 17:30 to 20:00 and second session 20:30 until late!

Price 1,450 Baht and for children under 13, 800 Baht. We offer mulled wine and gingerbread cookies on arrival. Only bookings with 50% deposit are accepted! Book now at 038-233672. Welcome!"

And if money isn't a problem, this will be one of the best- if not the best- Christmas buffet in Pattaya:

Tequila Reef is one again offering a turkey dinner on the 24, 25 and 26 December:

We're getting into "last minute" territory, so a few final suggestions:

Event-Gourmet-Menu.jpg.484b6e0bf2faf9f7a1e3f31deb001fe0.jpg

That's a pretty impressive buffet, especially the mains and dessert, for 870 baht.  I may try it on Christmas Eve.

Gian's in Jomtien has a two-week special menu (text from a pic on another board):

Christmas Special 2018
from December 16th to 30th

Soup
Lentil Soup with Capsicum and cumin 390 b
Home made Tortellini in broth, stuffed with turkey and truffle mortadella  480 b

Pasta
Home made Ravioli Stuffed with Turkey, Patanegra ham and topped with white truffle sauce   880 b

Main Course
Sliced pork Leg with Boiled Lentils and mashed potatoes  680 b
Sliced Roasted Turkey with Liver, Cashew nuts and Risotto Taleggio  980 b
Grilled Tomahawk steak served with Roasted potatoes  and grilled vegetables  680 b                                                               Grilled Tiger prawns with garlic served with Spaghetti garlic, oil, chili and fresh cherry tomatoes  880 b

Cheeses
Selection of special cheeses from Italy  780 b

Hefty prices, but Gian's turns out quality meals.

It's less expensive at the Devonshire on Soi Lengkee (from a pic on another board):

Devonshire Restaurant
Christmas Dinner

Prawn Cocktail
Ham & Pea Soup
150 baht

Roast Turkey or Roast Beef
All the Traditional Extras
499 baht

HOT Christmas Pudding
or any of our fruit pies
Custard or cream
120 baht

And one in Na Jomtien and one for those who don't care about Christmas Dinner.  BonChon is better than KFC!

Now that the Xmas dinners are all done and dusted, I was just wondering where all these eateries get their Brussels Sprouts from!

So does anyone know where, in town, this veg can be found....quite partial to them and they can be readily wok cooked?

More suggestions for Christmas dinner 2019.  The restaurants listed for 2018 will, of course, be offering a similar dinner this year.

The Sportsman (name on menu is in really small print):

The Hard Rock has two Christmas buffets, a giant one in Starz Diner and a much more limited carvery in the Hard Rock Cafe.  If you just want turkey and all the trimmings plus Christmas desserts (plum pudding, etc), then the Hard Rock Cafe's carvery is enough.  I haven't seen an ad yet for the Starz Diner buffet.

A Taste of Norway is the former Linda's in Jomtien under new management.  The buffet menu lists traditional Norwegian Christmas dishes.

Christmas Eve costs 999 baht and Christmas Day is 1,199 baht,  but early birds who book by Dec. 20 with get a discount (850 b on Xmas Eve,  999 baht on Xmas Day).  Children under 5 eat free.

Always thankful for your updates Evil, A frequent customer at Villa Market and will give Robins Nest a try.  Ot but if anyone is in Bangkok try Moonshine pub for Christmas Dinner. Soi22 , soon to be gone Queens Park.  It is free and good food. They only ask you to buy drinks and tip the staff well.. Free normally scares me as i remember the photo of BIG D tearing in to the buffet at FLB.  But get there early and tables were open at Thanksgiving.

The best value-for-money Christmas dinner in town is the all-you-can-eat buffet at Chik-N-Coop bar in the beer bar complex diagonally across the street from Mike's Mall on 2nd Road.  It costs 500 baht.

It's a U.S.-style dinner with American touches like  different kinds of stuffing, candied sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and green bean casserole as well as roast turkey and ham, mashed potatoes, veggies, etc.  All the food is in the best tradition of home cooking.   Thai dishes are on offer for wives and girl friends who aren't fans of farang meals.

Coop has a very loyal following for his holiday buffets and Christmas dinner is sold out every year.  If it sounds good, get your ticket ASAP.

A couple of things to note:  there are cookies, candy and homemade fudge for dessert but no Christmas pudding or pie.  It's also open-air dining on folding tables and plastic chairs.

Another inexpensive option is the Devonshire on oi Lengkee:

If you want to fill up on turkey and the trimmings at Coop's,  you could go to the Devonshire for Christmas pudding as it's a separate course.

Casa Pascal on 2nd Road near The Avenue.  It's another expensive one, but top-rate food.  The price is in tiny print:  1,590 baht for Christmas lunch and 1,890 baht for dinner on Dec. 24th and Dec. 25th.  EDIT IN:  The price is ++, so add another 17.5%.

This one is going to be sold out for  sure, so jump on it fast if you're interested.  A lot of expats have a Cheap Charlie's Rewards Card and the discount price of 475 baht is the lowest I've seen for a turkey dinner.  The one downside is that Christmas pudding isn't offered, but mince pie will be good enough for many.

The Pullman Pattaya has an out-of-the-way location on Wong AmartBeach in Naklua.  The price for the Christmas brunch is reasonable, considering what you get.  It also fearures roast goose instead of turkey.

Untitled-4.jpg.5b0c0d526146007a872674d3e7a6e681.jpgUntitled-5.jpg.f3b57d41145741df78d6c9c4583f4c25.jpg

More details from the Hard Rock. It ain't Cheap Charlie's, but its Christmas meals are decent value-for-money  for what you're getting. The prices are net, not ++.

At the Royal Cliff, it's elegant and expensive.  Since the price is ++,  add 17.5% to the prices before.

The Amari Pattaya is also ++,  so add 17.5% to the price.

And two on Soi Diana near LK Metro. The Robin's Nest has a three- course, all-you-can-eat buffet and Harry's is going with a traditional Swedish Christmas Eve buffet. The Robin's Nest doesn't accept reservations for Christmas dinner, while reservations are mandatory at Harry's.

Untitled-31.jpg.25797511dac6620aaf75ef8c

Here's a translation of Harry's Christmas Eve menu:

Welcome to celebrate Christmas with us at Harry's Restaurant on December 24th in Pattaya!

Traditional Swedish Christmas Table with Meatballs, Pickled Beet Salad, Herring (several types), Pickled Salmon, Smoked Salmon, Red Cabbage, Priinskorv (sausage), Ham, Jansson's Temptation (potato and anchovy casserole), Spare Ribs, Deviled Eggs, Liver pâté, Rice a la Malta, Fruit Salad, Mulled Wine, Gingerbread, Scandinavian Shots & much more!

995 baht

Only bookings with 500 baht in deposit.

First seating: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Second searing: 7.30 p.m. untill late

The menus and prices are the same this year as last, so I'll use the quote function.
