It'll be a nuisance, but we can't say it doesn't need doing.  Just ban the coaches and one lane is plenty.  ?

We can certainly say it needs doing PROPERLY!

I've already read that a falang engineer believes that the diameter of the pipes they are laying is inadequate.

Doubt anywhere could have large enough drainage pipes to handle the tropical downpours. Best they can plan for is diverting the water into canals and out to sea to avoid flooding in other parts of the city.

Thanks for the update and the pics. Looking at all the exposed rebar sends shudders down my spine. Any poor sod who slips and falls onto that is in some serious trouble, or worse still, a motorbike hitting it, it's a modern day equivalent of a punji pit.

Almost did just that setting up to take this pic. The sand underfoot started to give way. Fortunately most of my weight was still on the other foot so easily jumped back. It did give me pause when I considered just how bad it would have been if I tumbled the other way. That would have been no ones fault but my own for standing so close to a construction site.

So they have started digging at the Amari which is pretty much the end of Beach Rd, but I get the impression the other end of the snake is still way back up by Pattayalands or even the sewage pumping into the sea plant? I have avoided the Beach Rd for so long now!

Soi 1 they've started digging.

They're setting up the Soi 6 pumps again, probably not for any expected rain, but to help drain the water that has been collecting in the drains under construction.

Just walked down beach road from Soi6 to mike's, the pumps are primed and ready to go and fenced off, still the one solitary parachute and only saw one guy working grinding the rough edges or cutting a straight edge.mikes shopping centre is dead, not much happening in terminal 21 but I was there just after it opened it's handy for me to get some of my daily 10k walk round the floors in reasonable cool conditions.Around soi Buakhao and metro it looks normal and busy but it's not it must be scary if you are working, it's starting to look disastrous for the little people in Pattaya.

As I said before, that rebar gives me the shits big time.

I think it is because when I was at primary school we had to watch these "gore fest" "educational govt safety videos - building sites bite" has a lot to answer for!

Even with the major construction on Beach road, the  traffic flow seems to be relatively OK.       I   really don't think the  journey from Soi 6 to Walking Street is any longer than usual.

Only because there has been a lot less traffic than normal over the last couple of months.?

Well I just drove South from the Amari... traffic moving OK... but only because there hardly is any. It was different 2 weeks ago.

It doesn't matter where you drive at the moment the traffic is very light.  Previously when you tried to cross 2nd Road from VT6 to MIT it could take a fair bit of time with the traffic backed up - Now at 9:00pm you can stroll across with big gaps in the passing traffic.  Also a piece of piss to get across to MIT on the scooter.

Maybe my memory isn't serving me well but I think this project has been ongoing for nearly a year in one shape or another.      All in all I'm surprised how smoothly the traffic moves during the construction.     I'm happy about that as Pattaya isn't  a great place for short cuts or detours.

Thanks to forcebwithu for a very good photo spread.

My recollection was that the traffic on Beach Road was moving even slower than normal prior to the turn of the year. The absence of the tour coaches, and lots of other visitors, means traffic now flows fairly freely despite the roadworks.

Update of the north end of Beach Rd as of this morning. Looks like they might be fast tracking the project now that there's very few tourists left.

And at Soi 6 it looks like they either dug out the buried pipe that connects the south end of the drains, or they installed the missing section in the past week. At any rate, the water from the north now has a way to continue on to the south.

Kinda wonder whether a lot of drainage and sewage lines that used to come down the Beach Rd sois from soi Pattayaland 2 (13/4) to Soi 1 are still connected to something, and where do they go?

In my latest pic of the Soi 6 drain, you can see to the left of the black, plastic drain the concrete drain that I'm pretty sure ties into the laterals coming in from the different sois along Beach Rd. I believe the new drains are meant to supplement the existing storm water drainage, and all lead to the pumping station at the south end of Beach Rd.
