A blinding layer maybe ..???

Had to look that up. I believe you are correct.

In construction, blinding is a base layer of weak concrete or sand that is laid above a layer of hardcore to provide a clean, level and dry working surface. A thin layer, usually around 50 mm (2 inches) thick, of blinding is poured over the hardcore, sealing in the underlying material and levelling off the surface.

Today's photo update of the Beach Rd drainage project.

Hard to see in this pic, but the catch basin is still almost 3/4 full of water, so they've not yet cleaned it out. I would have thought it would be easier to clean the muck out before they completed the concrete enclosure.

First time I've seen them make an effort to sort the paving stones by color.

Looks good when they match to the existing pavers.

Not so good when they don't.

Wonder what numbnut thought it was a good idea to spray paint a marker on the pavers.

The drainage project and beach pics after the early morning storms.

Surprised they still haven't cleaned out the sand from the north end catch basin. The longer they wait, the more the sand will get washed farther into the drains and the harder it will be to clean it out.

The usual spots prone to flooding and beach washouts look none the worse after this morning's storms. Probably more to do with lack of heavy rain than the new drains doing their job.

Further proof this morning's rainfall wasn't much as only one of the three overflow pipes was discharging effluent.

Beach Rd drain update from this morning. North end they're now working on the opposite side of the road, tying the existing drains to the new drain.

Yes, the project is pretty much finished. I'll get out maybe tomorrow and snap some pics of the finished project.

Since they're only doing this in one section, I suspect the electric to the lights in the area failed and they're running a new line. The question then becomes, why didn't they notice the lights were out and run a new line before repairing the footpath.

That's the beauty of laying bricks/tiles on sand easy to maintain and repair when the sand shifts or rain and the sea affect them.

If they maintain them is another story.

It is all about re-work here, makes me think of the R-Con corner.

Some years ago my local council here in Oz had some renovating done to their buildings.  The pavers on the footpath outside were laid three times before the job was finally finished.  TiT can happen elsewhere :whistling:

They're still working on cleaning out the muck in the drains.
50190485478_2d52de16c4_b.jpg

Also noticed they've put in curbs to block storm water runoff to the beach at the low points from Pattaya Klang north. Kind of self-defeating IMHO if the goal is clear the roads of flood waters ASAP.

Wonder if they'll close the swing gate once the tide comes back in.

I've just seen a video a mate posted on FB of the devastation of the beach by the rains last night. It looks like the new drainage has had very little effect.

Last night"s storm was very heavy. I saw a video of Soi Buakhau during the rain, it was knee deep but later reports suggested the flooding cleared quickly.

It was 12 inches here .... but when I say 12 inches it is the diameter of the wet patches on my ceiling from where the roof leaks..... Also the pump that is permanently located at the culvert outlet wouldn't start so it was a night of drinking homebrew watching the flooding get higher and higher up my steps ....

From what I have seen on YT the damage is exactly the same as it always is and in the same locations ... maybe I'll take a walk tomorrow...
