How can I renew motorbike registration?

In the past, I would let my girlfriend take care of it, but recently became single. The first time I renewed it, I went through the dealer and quite honestly it was kind of expensive and took longer than the service my g/f used. I'm wondering if I can just go to the Department of Land Transportation and take care of it myself. I didn't have any issue renewing my license on my own, so I assume I can renew my motorbike registration.

Anyone done this before? What documents do I need when doing it?

Like you, my Mrs has always done mine. But she needs little more than the green book...and the insurance (CTPL) certificate... the bottom strip. She says bike has to be inspected, done there at the place. I found a couple of girls that spoke good English at the entrance who helped me, and from then just a matter of sitting waiting..... Or use an agent, maybe MOTs if you can't be bothered.

I had heard you don't need an inspection unless it is of a certain age. I do NOT know when inspection comes into play though.

I've always dealt with the dealer that I purchased my bikes from, Mityon. Service has been fine, and I don't believe they've ever leveled a surcharge. IIRC, cost is in the neighborhood of 650B.

If the bike is 5+ years old, you'll also have to have an inspection done. You do that at any of the inspection stations displaying the white and blue gear symbol. I recently did that for a friend whose bike I was storing. Cost, including registration was 1,020B. I've not tried it, but you could try doing just the registration at the inspection station if your bike is under five years old.

go to dlt do it yourself, only need green book

first step go inside to the window which sells government insurance and purchase por ror bor

then go outside (thats where the road tax  is being processed now) to get a queue number and buy the road tax

should be in and out in 30 minutes, no agent fees

Very close to what Mityon charges. I looked at my receipt and the total was 640B. Happy to pay the 40B extra to save me a long trip out to DLT vs a very short trip to Mityon on the intersection of 3rd Rd and Pattaya Tai.

for a 125 cc bike insurance is 345 b plus 100 b tax so Mityon probably adding on 200 b

Do it yourself also gets you the tax and insurance the same day

Mine was for an Aerox which is 155cc if that makes a difference.

Stuck overseas for 2 years so the tax on my 8 year old Click has expired. Can an agent, who does the 5 year+ test as well, renew it for me or must I go to the DLT? Anyone know, please?

yes they can do it all for you, take the bike and the green book to them,

This is what I did this year.

20-25 minutes to drive the back roads to the DLT, arrived at 14:40 Wednesday.

Window 10 to pay insurance (no queue)

Outside "One stop" table to check documentation and get queue number (no queue)

He directed me to the small window outside to pay (no queue)

Paid 100 baht for registration.

Done with DLT in less than 10 minutes

Another 20-25 minutes to get home. All said and done, it was less than 1 hour and cost 542 baht plus whatever gasoline I used.
