  2. The following news from Pattaya mail:

Fines begin for drivers using cell phones

    Theerarak Suthatiwong

Starting from May 10, a hefty fine faces anyone caught using a cell phone while driving.

Following a three-month period of publicizing the new traffic regulation, which had been enacted by the national government on February 8, police have now been instructed to prosecute anyone found using a cell phone while driving a vehicle.

Pattaya Police Station superintendent Pol Col Nopadol Wongnom briefed officers this week that tickets must be handed out to anyone breaking the law, starting from May 10. Fines would range from 400 baht to 1,000 baht.

The police chief said that anyone having to use a phone while driving should use hands-free equipment such as Small Talk or Bluetooth, in the interests of their own safety and the safety of other road users.

Will the the taxi operators adhere to the rule to give us a safe drive ?

  3. There is no difference between Mr T and Mr Toom in terms of service. Whether you get a good car with good driver, all depend on your luck on the day pf your arrival or departure. However, as Mr T's is cheaper I will give him the first choice.

Actually if time permits I prefer the Bell Bus, it is more comfort I can always have good sleep for the 2 hours ride.

  4. One more question for all of you.

I read in another forum that Pattaya Bay Resort is in a somewhat dangerous area at night. Would it be a good idea to always use the provided shuttle? Or, is the area cleaned up a bit since they built a new shopping center nearby?

I stayed there early this month for a week. If you chose to walk back from Soi 15, it could be a bit far and dangerous. Some tips, I always piggy back the free shuttle service provided by Mecure hotel at Soi 15 which is very convenient (pattaya Bay is next to Mecure). Normally, from Walking Street I take the tuk tuk to the Avenue shoppong Mall from there it is only 2 min walk to the hotel, it is very safe.

  5. You should not miss out Phuket, it has very beatufiul beaches. Especially during the month from Nov to April, the seas are calm and cristal blue. I suggest that you stay there at least 4 days.

Try to get a hotel aroud Bangla Road. I stayed at a relatively new hotel (about 2 years od) at Bangla Road which is next to Thara Patong Hotel last June I remember I paid 1,000 baths, high season maybe 1,200 baths. Its web site:

    www.whitesandpatong.com.

Tuk Tuk in Phuket are controlled by mafia, it is very expensive compared to Pattaya ( 3 or 4 times higher)

Other than transport hotel and food price are also higher than Pattaya.

  6. Hi Jboy

Accordiing to their web site "Pattaya Bay Resort is situated on Soi 15 near Second Road in the heart of the city. "The Avenue" (Pattaya’s premiere shopping and entertainment complex) is directly across the street. "

Is this shopping mall fully or partially opened?

What is the size of this shopping mall compared to Big C or Royal Garden Plaza?

Is Pattay Bay Resort very close to this shopping mall?

    Thks

  7. From the airport to the bus station at North Pattaya I think you should not have any problem, they will carry your luggage and place them into their luggage compartment. From the bus station to your hotel, I am not sure whether your lugguage is too big for their mini van if there are too many passengers. If this is the case, you just pay 100 to 150 bath the TUK TUK will bring them to your hotel. (there are alsways many TUK TUK wiating at the bus station)

Bell bus service staff speak good English I suggest that you call them directly to confirm.

  8. Used Bell Bus service from Bangkok new airport to Pattaya on last Staurday. My flight arrived at the aiport 13.25 took about 35 min to clear the custom. Afterwhich walked one level down to the bus terminal gate/door 7 to catch the Bell bus at 14.05 directly to Pattaya at only 150 bath. One you arrived at the transport floor, you can see many buses waiting there and you just go to gate 7 to look for BELL bus.

I telephoned them one day before to make the booking and they confirmed my booking and promised to wait for me till 14.20 (as the schedule time is 14.00). The BELL bus will bring you to the North Pattaya bus terminal and they will transfer you to a mini bus and bring you to you hotel. The entire journey is only 2 hours, not much different from taking a taxi.

The schedule from the new airport to Pattaya:

8,10,12,14,16,18:00 they pick you up at Level one, door 7, a lady is waiting there.

You can make reservation : tel: 0274746, 089-4498843

  9. Stayed here two months ago paid 1,000 Bath (without breakfast) per night The hotel is opoosite Thara Patong Hotel, quite good location and is quest friendly.

Next door is a massage boutique run by an canadian. I enjoyed a very good (no happy ending) massage by a girl call "PURAN' .

The are a few very good pub around, with good ambience and live band. Some give good discount if made friend with them. Plenty of other drinking places around and you do not need to talk to the mafia tuk tuk men if you stay around this area.
