  1. Seems to be a "hit and miss" procedure. When I applied for a licence last May I had an international driving licence - and a 1 year retirement visa - but I still had to do the written and practical tests. Also I had the correct size photos with me but I still got sent across the road to get the identical ones they sell there. However, don't let this discourage anyone from applying.   3. I'd agree that some places must add something to the half-pints - hopefully it's only water! - and the taste isn't good. On the other hand I know that sometimes the girls in the bars are pretty generous with the Mekong and Sang Som measures - I imagine they think that if they get you pissed they stand a better chance of getting business.
  4. When I did the test, one of the questions asked what a driver should do in a situation "shown in the sketch opposite". Only problem was that they had omitted to include the sketch! I ticked one of the boxes at random and must have hit luck as I passed! (That was the only luck I had - I didn't get a date with a cute examiner!) Incidentally does anyone know what you should do if you are going to be out of the country at the end of the first year - when you are eligible to apply for the 5 year licence.   5. Just a brief comment. Some of the Bureau de Change places don't accept Visa Taveller's Cheques but don't let that put you off if that is what your Bank give you. There are quite a few places that do accept Visa TCs the ones that don't will usually direct you to a place that does.
