Don Muang Airport Golf Course

Recommended Posts

Hi folks I've often noticed people playing golf between the two runways at Don Muang airport. Does anyone know if visitors can play the course, or is it restricted to Air force personnel?

I remember flying back to the UK on QF1 and the following days QF1 flight, landing in a rainstorm skidded off the runway onto the course, luckily no one got hurt but it must have been fun for the PAX.

Stevoh.

I played it once for a lark, it stinks as far as golf is concerned but it is kind of funny playing between the runways and hearing the jets come and go...there is a place where the tarmac crosses the course with a gate on it that swings shut to golfers when planes are taxiing across..the course itself is flat and boring, not much trouble or challenge if you hit even half way straight. Some of the caddies were male, boo, and not a lot of fun. The food was good, traditional Thai noodles, hot, spicy, very cheap as was the golf ( less than 500 baht with caddie, locker, shower) I thought it would be easy to bang out 18 and get to the airport without too much hassle which it is, but once is enough. There are too many other good things to do in Thailand including places to play golf that are more satisfying

The real name is Kantarat. It is quite long, though fairly boring with few real features. Playing it does give you an idea how dangerous Don Muang airport really is, the cross winds can be wicked! Not easy to land a plane in, I'm sure.

Last time I played there, the greens were very inconsistent. The caddys are not the pretty things you get in Pattaya, but they are good caddys - old and experienced, in caddying.

You get to the course via the slip road after the Cargo terminal, and like 95% of Thai courses, anyone can play. Getting to your flight might be difficult as you can't slip across the runway and need to get a taxi to collect you. A better course for last minute golf might be Muang Ake, Muang Ake Vista or the Thai Airforce course, all just north of the airport. Check out www.siamgolfbiz.com or www.thaigolfer.com for all the course details including maps.
