Am Canadian travelling this year with my Asian GF for 2 months January/February, to various islands and spots in Land of Smiles. Wondering if any couples interested in meeting up for bar crawls some nights? dinner, go dancing, etc. We will be picking up some local stunners on occasion too...

HI, I was in Phuket in November, and had no problem walking into places without reservations. Not sure about Jan/Feb. Many many clean, new "Guesthouses" that had similar rates 800-1000B /night. Never felt like it was a rip off. In fact I think the smaller places have better hospitality, than the mega-corporation Hotels, that promote extra charges to customers, since their just big business. Example: minibars. in the small hotels they are a service for your convenience. Beers for 60-80B, Try that in a Hyatt! Also try LateStays.com. That gave me a couple of excellent deals

Hi I just returned from 2 FUN filled weeks in Phuket area. I liked the Karon/Kata beach area best. Just quiet enough, with very inexpensive friends compared to the Patong zoo. Try the "My Friends House" and "Best house" they are two new guest houses just 3-4 blocks back off the beach, in S. Karon. Nice clean rooms ~ 800 baht/night. Not sure if available over the internet though. There were also lots of small rooms available for walk in. In early Dec there were plenty of vacancies, not sure about Jan. Also, LateStays.com, offers last minute (< 14 days) reservations
