No work permits are given. Tax is being deducted though and paid. Usually a signed copy of the passport is required to go with that. That is the usual way nowadays. Even for the larger speaking roles no work permits are issued. And most of the foreign crews do not have work permits. Even on big productions like Alexander, Shanghai and many others. These movies used close to a 1000 are more western extras! It used to be that no one paid taxes, but that has changed in the past 3-4 years or so. The only problem for everyone outside of Bangkok is though ..... that your outside of Bangkok ... all the castings are usually done in Bangkok and when a production shoots outside they usually take everyone (including the extras) with them from Bangkok.
