I think EVA is a northwest/klm partner, and their airmile scheme is as follows: You get actual mileage from your destination to LOS. You will get 18K miles rt from most Midwest or East Coast american cities. Once you have flown 25K miles in the previous year, you are silver elite, that means among other things, you get a 50% mileage upgrade. Once you have flown 50K miles in the previous year, you are gold elite, you get a 100% mileage upgrade at that point, and if you fly 75K miles or more in a previous year, you platinum elite, and get a 125% mileage upgrade. There are other benefits to being an elite member, mainly free first class upgrades on all flights in the continental us, south or central america, or the carribean. But you just have to make sure that your member number is registered with the ticket agent before you fly.
