If you would like to see some of the "more real" Thailand I can suggest doing the Elephant's Ear. Head to Nong Khai and then follow the Maekong River downstream... that, when Thailand is viewed as the head of an elephant, is the ear part. Lots of nice quiet villages and small towns along the way. Won't find many Pattaya type bars, that is for sure, but it is a great way to experience and enjoy a more authentic Thailand.
