  1. How about Makha Bucha Day in Pattaya ?? Will all bars been closed then and no alcohol sold or is it just a "normal" day like the rest of that week ?? Thanks, Tweety.
  2. Hi Bill, I fully agree with Asiaexpat. Unless you really want/need to be close to your GF's house, I wouldn't stay in Bangna. Nothing of interest (expect a few good restaurants) within walking-distance. Seacon Square is a great place for shopping, but I guess that's all to explore overthere. And without a bit knowlegde of Thai language it can be hard also. Count about an 1 hour taxi-drive to Siam-Square or Pratunam-area. My GF lives near Lotus Bangna (same area). And believe me that Bangna-Trad Road drives you crazy after a while when taking taxi (or bus) all the time to "downtown" BKK

  4. Have a look at: http://www.pattaya.com/pattayainfo/go/ PS: prices may be changed a bit. Tweety.
  5. Sorry to say, but you were 2x wrong..
  6. Great posts you made, Hub! I was reading this topic with great interest the last few days.. Never my intention to let it go in this way (just a reply on a question).. But well, mai pen rai.. Maybe sooner or later other members can find their info (dowries) here also.. As that's how it started a long time ago for me also. Haha.. you are fully right.. As the first time I started to talk with my girlfriend about a possible marriage (about 1 year ago) she mentioned me about dowry also. I knew about it just a little bit from books before. But that's all... So I made the joke to her in a way
  7. Babepecker, One good advice to you: do some research to find out about the meaning and backgrounds of paying dowries at Thai wedding-parties. Maybe it will open your eyes more before mentioning all kind of things in this topic without even knowing one single piece of it.. Although that's my impression.. There are several great posts here from members whom definitely know (and respect) the Thai culture and traditions much more. And for you: forget that word "paying/buying your wife".. As it totally sounds like bullshit. Tweety.
  8. Not the girl is asking for a dowry, but the parents do. As for my girlfriend the dowry-thing isn't that important at all for her.. But for her parents (and relatives) as it's part of their culture and way they respect it (in daily life). A dowry is part of their Thai wedding-ceremony. No matter if it would be a Thai man or farang. The world is changing, even inside Thailand.. But don't forget that some people respect their culture and roots they belong too. No matter if they are lower- or upper-class. We can only respect that.. No matter if a dowry has to be paid or not.. Tweety.
  9. I will always been played anyway.. As a thing like "dowry" is very uncommon here in Europe. Even to explain to my parents or friends.. But well, it's a part of their culture.. mai pen rai! About being "played" too much or not will always be a question.. Before I accepted this amount of money, I did my research already also. From friends, Internet and co-workers of her.. Wanted to pay the money only one time (and everything included, from wedding-party untill all future expenses). No money being send to her parents after marriage, etc.. One deal, one time. If I should have my wedding-p
  10. Thanks all! Decided to stay at Areca Lodge and just got the confirmation already from them.. Counting down the days now
  11. How much you will have to pay for downry to marry your Thai girlfriend will indeed depend on social standing, family background, job of girl, etc.. Keep in mind that at a traditional Thai wedding, you also will have to buy gold, etc for her parents. And probably also have to pay the cost of the wedding-party itself. I will marry my Thai girlfriend in May. She has a good job at a big Korean company in BKK (no bar-girl at all), her parents live near Lopburi and are so called "middle/high-class". The downry I have to pay is 500,000.- bath.. But this will include everything. So no more hidden
  12. Hi all, Doubing right now whether to stay in Areca Lodge or Inn House Hotel (Soi 13) during my stay in Pattaya next month. Any good suggestions ?? How's the construction-noise right now near Soi 13 ?? Thanks, Tweety.
  13. Thanks for your info.. I was considering to stay in Dynasty (Soi 13) at the end of August. But after reading all the info about the construction noise I will look for another place. Tweety.
  14. Hi guys, Thank you all for the usefull information. At least it seems like I not have to worry to find my transportation from PTY to U-Tapao. Tweety
  15. Hi all, Any recommendations what's the best and most easy way to get transportation from Central-Pattaya area (Soi 9 - 13) to U-Tapao Airport ?? As I want to take a flight from there to Koh Samui. How much do I have to pay and what's most reliable way to get to U-Tapao ?? Thanks for your advice. Tweety.
