Ordinary train no.283 leaves Bangkok Hualumphong at 06:55 and Makkasan at 07:08 arriving Pattaya at 10:31. It is 3rd class only so expect hard wooden seats, or slightly padded plastic covers in newer rolling stock. The fare is 31 baht. I think it's a good way to soak up some Thai atmosphere, but not being fond of early mornings, I'd rather take the train back to Bangkok. Train no.284 leaves Pattaya at 14:50, arriving Makkasan 17:56 and Hualumphong at 18:10. All this compares with the air con bus from/to Ekamai costing 90 baht and taking 2 hours. Cheers Colin
