  1. Soi 6 wouldn't be top of my list of areas to stay in Pattaya but if it was then the QV wins hands down. Its location gives you easy options of heading north or south, it has wifi in the rooms, it has a decent restaurant and pub with professional staff, and doesn't suffer from the traffic noise on 2nd Road.
  2. Nobody said the delays were caused by lack of gates, only that the choice of delivery dates (and airline schedules) were tied into the availability of gates. After the delay was announced in mid-2006 the airlines negotiated new delivery dates and that schedule was announced. The airlines/airports also adjusted their infrastructure plans to tie-in with the revised schedule. It's no great secret and the production schedule, current position and delivery schedules are freely available to anyone who cares to look for them. As for the facts ......... the a380 is in service and the 787 is still stuck on the factory floor. That clear enough for you. Walt, At least try and read what I wrote. I said two gates to operate two schedules, (Sydney and London) not two planes. Think about it for a little while ..............
  3. That's hardly surprising, is it?
  4. No airline plans to routinely use remote gates to load/unload the A380 at Singapore or anywhere else. The planned schedules to Sidney and London require a minimum of two gates to be available at Changi.
  5. Gonzo, I thought BigD was looking for a bungalow with everything on the ground level. I assume that there are similar housing developments in the likes of Sri Racha and Bang Saen. Any idea of rental prices/availability?
  6. A bit like your assertion about the 787 being on track to fly by the end of August 2007. Anyway, it's not a dramatic increase. That has been the revised schedule since the delay announced in mid-2006. . Why is it ridiculous. They didn't have two A380 enabled gates/lounges until T3 opened this week. The second A380 arrived the next day. They probably hope to deliver more than 13 this year. It's in the hands of the airlines if they want to bring forward their deliveries. However, Qantas needs T5 in London to open first and Emirates needs to finish work in Dubai.
  7. Fruitcase, Make your mind up. A couple of days ago you said it was one a year, now it's one a month ...... I heard that the 787 is still in bits, was without any avionics or wiring in the cockpit as of a couple of weeks ago and is meant to be flying before the end of March. Jeez, it doesn't seem so long ago that WalterMittyUSA was saying, "I gave credit where credit is due. Without the subcontractors delivering quality parts on time the Dreamliner would be a pile of parts sitting on the assembly line".
  8. And right on cue ................ Airbus delivers second A380 to Singapore Airlines Jan 11, 2008, 11:37 GMT Toulouse, France - European aircraft manufacturer Airbus said Friday it has delivered the second A380 superjumbo aircraft to Singapore Airlines (SIA). In a statement released at company headquarters in the southern French city of Toulouse, Airbus said the second A380 was configured exactly like the first superjumbo, which was delivered to SIA on October 15. Both planes feature 471 seats in three classes. SIA is the first airline to fly the superjumbo commercially. Airbus plans to deliver a total of 13 A380s, the largest commercial aircraft ever built, to its customers in 2008. You were mentioning something about production problems ....................
  9. No need to check the schedules. The timing of the delivery of the second, and subsequent, A380s to SQ was dictated by the opening of the new terminal at Changi (which is designed to handle multiple A380s) that occured this week. The aircarft will no doubt follow shortly.
  10. BigD, 10-12K for a decent, new(ish) 3 bed furnished property seems like a good deal. When are you moving?
  11. It closed a while back and after refurbishment reopened under a new name ........
  12. I stay at the Nirvana Place when I visit Pattaya nowadays. I don't find the location an issue at all ..... 5 mins on a baht bus or on a moto-sai to pretty much anywhere in South Pattaya and the girls love the place. There are only a few units for rent so you may have to book a bit in advance. I'm sure I have some pics on my camera .... if so, I'll stick them up tomorrow. There is no charge for however many girls you decide to share the place with. If you are getting the place for 74 USD then it is a very good deal.
  13. I know when the next A380 is due for delivery to SQ ....... it's no great secret. Why don't you check out SQ's schedules? That'll give you a clue. If that's too difficult, tune into next week's scheduled press conference. I'm sure that'll provide you and fruitcase with your answer. How's the relocation going? Did you and the Mrs find a property?
  14. Probably in Toulouse, where it has been, on and off, for almost a year. Delivery will take place when the airline is ready to accept it. Unless you know something different, which. unsurprisingly, you don't.
  15. You mean it's hard to do a review of a hotel that didn't exist. The "part owner in a Pattaya hotel" was just one of your many Walter Mitty moments. How's the relocation going? Found that house yet?
  16. LOL. Has anyone ever seen or heard of the Alamo Gust house. No, but phone Skytop to book there. Jeez, don't they even have a mobile or e-mail addy. "Sorry Sir, the Alamo's full but we have vacancies here at Skytop". Jeez, Denny's never even done a review of his own hotel ..............
  17. Not difficult at all. It's also not difficult to get around the fact that the thing is still sat on the assembly line and hasn't even started its ground testing yet. So, of these 790 firm orders, when is the first one going to be delivered? This year? I'm hesitant to predict what will come first; your much promised relocation to LOS or the 787 entering commercial service.
  18. The first one was taken just over 3 years ago, November 2004. The second one was taken about 1 second after the guy stuck his boot up her arse.
  19. Welcome back, Scally. Where have you been hiding? Just to bring you up to date the bubble burst a while back and guess which economies are feeling it most. Hint: it ain't the oil and gas producing states of the Middle East. So, when is the company that delivers on time, to spec eventually going to deliver this 787 aeroplane? 2008? 2009?
  20. A couple of snaps of her from a couple of years back ........
  21. Since when was Boeing projecting an October delivery of the 787? Late November or early December is what they told the rest of the world. Can't you get anything right? The EU taxpayer will be pretty happy when the orders gained in the last year are finalised in the next couple of weeks.
  22. Roy has pretty much said it all (other than you can only import one vehicle) but here is an indication of the taxes/duty that you would need to pay (notwithstanding the shipping costs) .... Example Calculation of Taxes and Duties The following example shows a breakdown of the liable taxes and duties assessed on the vehicles less than 2400 c.c. cylinder capacity with a CIF value of 1,000,000 Baht. CIF value of the imported vehicle and applicable taxes and duties are as follows: CIF value of the import= 1,000,000 Baht Import duty= 80 % Excise tax= 35 % Interior tax= 10 % of excise tax + VAT 7% The total import duties and taxes imposed on this import are calculated as follows: 1. Import duty = (CIF value * Rate of import duty)=(1,000,000 * 0.8)= 800,000 Baht 2. Excise tax = (CIF value + import duty) * {Rate of excise tax/1-(1.1 * Rate of excise tax)} = (1,000,000+800,000) * {0.35/1-(1.1*0.35)} = 1,800,000 * 0.5691057 = 1,024,390.20 Baht 3. Interior tax = Excise tax * Rate of interior tax = 1,024,390.20 * 0.1 = 102,439.02 Baht 4. Base VAT = (CIF value+ Import duty+ Excise tax + Interior tax) = (1,000,000 + 800,000 + 1,024,390.20 + 102,439.02)= 2,926,829.20 Baht 5. VAT= Base VAT * VAT Rate = 2,926,829.20 *0.07 = 204,878.04 Baht Total taxes and duties = 1+2+3+5 = 2,131,707.20 Baht
  23. I'm sure Walter Mitty will start a thread "787 on Schedule to enter commercial service in 2008"
