Vaio Z is magnesium alloy. Not same as lower end range. I think it's pretty durable.

Ah-ha, I've found the ear-buds... Sony noise cancelling ones which work in conjunction with the notebook's microphone to detect noise. @MM; Bought from Numchai (Sony store Central Festival) halfway through 2010. I dropped it after owning it one week causing some damage to the casing. It worked fine and I used it until April 2011, at which time I got a desktop system as needed multiple monitors.
