I've been to Pattaya many, many times. What I do is go to the Five Star Bar on the beach side about a block from the Saim Bayview Hotel and the Mike Mall. The proprietor there is called "Mama-san" (don't ask) and can give you help with most things you're looking for: shopping for a certain item, tours, transportation to the airport, etc. She can arrange you a trip to one of the little islands about 3 miles off Pattaya beach where they have a very primitive setup of "restaurants" and a very few kiosks for the usual trinkets. When I was in Pattaya in '02, I met a beautiful friend who became my companion and tour guide. I have written her many letters, but I have not heard from her and none of the letters have been returned. And when I call the number I had for her cell phone: 6-9-802-5894, I get the recording saying "cannnot connect." I now find out that I will be visiting Pattaya at the end of next month and would desperately like to contact her to ask her if I would be able to see her while I was there. I have tried to find an online English-language phone listing for Pattaya/Chonburi, but can't find on
