  1. Alan, Yeah, I know better then trying to work without a permit as I have seen friends paying fines for that before :-) and not exactly small fines...i have my currrent work permit actually until the end of my contract here at asianet - which will expire in febuary next year. but i am looking for some way to relocate to pattaya, even tough what i fould so far where only very low paid jobs which will not be enough to support my family here (wife and kid). but i thought i give it a try here, if nothing turns out, at least i have tried :-)
  2. :-) i have been working in thailand (with a proper permit) for 7 years, and let me correct you on a few things. first: if you are caught working without a proper permit but with your visa still valid, you will not be arrested but fined for a minor administrative offence if it is the first time (we had cases in the company where i work currently, and not only one). this may differ if you are a repeating violator of this regulations. sencond: if you are caught working without permit and your visa is not calid you will be arrested, sent to bangkok to the Immigration Detention Center where you will wait for your court session, you will be fined an amout between 2500 and 10000 baht, depending on the judge and your attitude and knowledge of the language. you wil stay at the IDC until you have arrangements for a ticket to your home country (no, you can not go to any other country anymore). you will NOT be blacklisted for a visa or work permit offence (if you think you know better, take the time to call the immigraion in bangkok and ask, we had such cases amongst some freelancer programmers at AsiaNet). Blacklisting is currently only practiced for people who have commited an act that is to prosecute by the thai criminal court. Offences regarding Visa and Work Permits are not in the juristication of the criminal court but under the juristication if the local administrative court in the area where you have been apprehended or found working. third: never have i heard of anyone going to jail for a visa offence, you will be hold at the local police station until court sentencing and then brought to the IDC in Bangkok, both of this places are hardly the same as Klong Pem, Bang Kwan or any of the other jails where you don't want to find yourself in. Even though there are horror stories about IDC at Soi Suan Pluh, for Farangs it is usually not that bad if you have money becuase you wont spent all that long there if you can buy a ticket for yourself. All the above is only true if you have commited no other criminal offences. So, maybe you should get the proper information before making statements :-) no offence ment, just wanted to correct your wrong information here. If you think that what I wrote is wrong you can easily check at the Immigration Division Headquaters in Bangkok, one of the female officers who answer the phones will be just to happy to tell you all you want to know if you speak thai, if not it may be a bit more difficult to get the information but still possible. :-) 0-2287-3101-10 Wish you a great Sunday anyway :-) Cheers Shellman
  3. Hi everybody, even though I am new to this board, I have been living in Thailand for 7 years now. I want to relocate from Bangkok to Pattaya and would like to ask if anyone knows of a job opportunity? I am basically a System Engineer, working with Unix and Windows Systems, mostly on the Security side (Firewalls, Virus Walls,...) My native language is German, beside that I speak English and Thai. I would consider all offers in the IT field (like Website buliding, Server Management,...) but also offers in other fields (Travel Agents, Real Estate, Hotel,...) If someone knows of any job I would be happy if he/she could PM me. Cheers shellman
