  1. Hmmm...sounds like a trip to Koh Samet might be just the ticket. Its a 3 or 4 hour mini bus ride from Pattaya and then a 1 hour boat ride to the island. Its a "NICE" resort... http://kohsamet.com/kohsamet/vongduan.html I've only been once but it was great! I think it would be perfect for a family outing. I made the connections through Anna at the AA hotel... but I'm sure they could all arrange it. Hope it works out so you can get back to your golf schwing...
  2. Awesome... I guess all my bandwidth will be used up for a little bit Are you back in LOS now?
  3. I've posted this before...but it never really seemed that far away... even if I was on foot. Hmmm... If I was crawling it might be a different story ;D I took this photo when I was there in April. -Doug
  4. Regarding the Residence Garden, many people are concerned about the location. When I was visiting in April I managed a panoramic shot of South Pattaya that seems to give a really clear idea of how far it is. IMHO...I never considered the distance a problem even when on foot. :) I have a much larger picture of this(1.6MB) that is located here: http://www.douglaslash.com/Thailand/Reside...oFlbPicture.jpg
  5. Two cowboys were sitting in a bar when one asked his friend if he had heard of the new sex position called rodeo. His friend says, "no, what is it?" "Well, you mount your girlfriend from the back, reach around and cup her breasts with both hands. Then say, 'Boy, those are almost as nice as your sister's'." Then see if you can hold on for 8 seconds.
  6. Don't want to leave you feeling hopeless.... :-/ I'm going to be staying at the Residence Garden from April 2 to the 12 th or so... From what other people on the board are telling me its a very nice place to stay and far enough away from south pattaya to be quiet but close enough to get into town for a 10 or 20 baht bus ride... I'll send out a report after I'm arrive...
  7. I wish I could remember exactly where I ripped this off ... er... I mean borrowed... from the web. Doesn't sound like good news to me. Posted By: SimonB <mailto:simonbr@hotmail.com?subject=3 Hotel reviews - Asia Pattaya Beach, Carlton Pattaya & Pattaya Center> Date: Sunday, 3 December 2000, at 3:46 a.m. ASIA PATTAYA BEACH HOTEL Cliff Road Pattaya 20260 Thailand Tel 00 6638 250 491 Fax 00 6638 250 496 Web site: http://asiatravel.com/asiapattaya/index.html You may find yourself offered this hotel as part of a package from a UK Travel Agent/Flight Centre. I did so, and took it, in Nov 1999 & 2000. Location – Between South Pattaya and Jomtien, not far from Pattaya Park. If you want to be close to the action in South/Central Pattaya then it is not the best place. You have to get a baht taxi for about 50/60 baht each way. There are a few Thai restaurants/bars just outside the gates of the hotel but none were beer bars as far as I could tell. Facilities – Situated on a cliff above a beach cove. Looks like 3 or 4 star interior. Nice, shaped pool with bar. Several restaurants. Fair buffet breakfast if you have/buy a coupon. Very pleasant terrace and lawns on which to relax. Snooker table & hairdresser/massage place. Great view out to sea & small beach at the foot of the cliff. Karaoke lounge. Tennis court. Nice Par 3 golf course. Types of guest – largely tour groups (Families/couples) from UK or Europe. Room – I had a double bed with bath/shower. Quite big. Air con of course. Large TV with a few English channels (CNN, MTV) View of Par 3 golf course & Big Buddha. (Rooms other side of hotel must have superb sea view). Guest Policy - if you want to bring Thai girls back it'll cost you 500B each to let them stay. They’ll need to give in their ID card too Staff – Friendly but formal Cost – Only cost me £10 but then I booked through an agency in the UK. Don’t know what the standard rate is. Overall – Pleasant place to start your holiday but single men would be better off nearer the action in a hotel with no guest fee in Pattaya itself ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Avoid this place. It's a big tourist trap designed to shunt Japanese groups through in vast numbers. Obviously built in the 70s, nobody has bothered to up date the tired looking decor. I picked up a deal on the Internet here offering an executive suite for 1200 baht. When I arrived, the "suite" turned out to be a bizarre room trying to resemble a ships cabin, complete with portals. This was one room with two single beds. I was not happy as it did not match my expectation of an Executive Suite. I took the matter up with the Manager who insisted that one room could be called a suite if that's what they wanted to call it. When I asked to see a real suite he showed me a suite that had a bedroom and a lounge room. Great I said, this is a suite and I'll take it. Sure he says, that will be 2200 baht. Not likely!!! To cut a long story short, the manager would not budge an inch so I told him to shove it, and went and stayed at The Dusit Thani, a vastly superior property, for the same price. I also told the manager I'd post the details of the hotels deception on the Internet . . . so here it is. Pattaya Pete (visited briefly November 98)
  8. [glow=yellow,2,300]This is probably a stupid question...[/glow] ::) Do the computers in the internet cafes have cdrom's. I'd like to burn a bunch of my mail addresses etc on a cdrom to bring with me ... that I could then just put in the machine instead of surfing around to find the links I'm looking for. -Doug
  9. Darn... I guess it will be the same when I arrive on the 2nd... Gotta hate really hate that... ;D ;D ;D
  10. I was stupid and bought a subscription to this place. Don't waste your money. The same information in much greater volume is on other free websites.
  11. I'll be traveling from Pattaya back to the Amari Hotel on Soi 5 early afternoon of Apr 13. :'( Anybody need a ride?
  12. I'm staying at the Amari Boulevard Hotel and will be traveling to Pattaya sometime in the early afternoon on Apr 2. Anybody need a ride?
  13. 1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans. 2. On the other hand, the French eat a lot of fat and also suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans. 3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans. 4. The Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and also suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans. Conclusion: Eat & drink what you like. It's speaking English that kills you.
  14. Last time I traveled to LOS I had a mixture of cash, atm and travelers checks. I found the atm to be the most convenient although after the fourth day my atm card was rejected. A call to my bank took care of everything but they were concerned that I had withdrawn cash several times from an overseas bank...strange. The only reason I mention this is that I am planning on taking the phone number of my bank with me this time. I also make photo copies of the front and back of my credit cards and passport. I keep these in case I were to lose my wallet and need to cancel the cards. Just my free advice which is probably worth what you paid for it. :)
  15. I will be in the Residence Garden Inn April 2 to April 13. If anybody would like to get together let me know. -doug (dal95403@yahoo.com) ps. My login was dougl707 but yahoo deleted it
