I plan to buy some tax- free goods before I arrive at BKK.

I'm travelling via Amsterdam and wonder if it's cheaper there than buying the stuff at a UK airport.

I've found that cigs, booze cameras etc. are cheaper to buy in Thailand.

Need to get perfumes.

I know it's probably cheaper in Thailand but I have some on me for when I land. (No,I don't wear the stuff!).

I've got a few hours to kill at Amsterdam a/p so probably end up buying it there.

The cigarettes you buy in Thailand are not the same quality as you buy in the UK, even when the same brand is available.

 

As for heathrow duty free, their prices may be lower for some things but not others as they increase the list price substancially.

 

Take chocolates. I was asked to buy some Cadbury's Milk Tray. GBP 3.5 in the supermarket, GBP 6.0 in the airport duty free. Same same with some cosmetics. You really need to know the high street price before deciding whether the duty free price is actually cheaper, and remember the size as well.

Quite a few perfumes nowadays are actually cheaper on the UK high streets, especially US brands. It is only when you get into the really expensive French ones that the "so called" airport duty free prices become worth the trouble.

This may not be relevant but I was in the Philippines in July this year and found perfumes and mens eau de toilette's cheaper in the big mega malls in Manila than at the airport d/f, eg: Hugo Boss no 1 was about $10 Aussie cheaper in the mall than d/f, $46 at the mall and $56 at the airport and $98 at Sydney duty free for a 120Ml bottle, big $$$$'s. Bangkok duty free is also about $10-$12 cheaper for booze per litre bottle than Sydney, Cointreau at Sydney is about $36, Bangkok $26. So the point being I will never buy at Sydney duty free again.

Yes,but I have to get the perfume,the French stuff, before I land at BKK (It's a long story,but I've a promise to keep ).

 

Having done a bit of research I've found Amsterdam Airport's Tax Free website.

All the prices are on there and it appears to be a fair bit cheaper than UK High Street prices.

 

Still very expensive though. I might make my own instead.
