This should probably go in the tech. area but thought more may see it here.

Being a little backward when it comes to technical stuff I need some advice.

1. CD's & DVD's bought in Thailand : Will they work as normal in other countries such as Aust. or do you need some sort of adaptor??

2. Mobile phones: Same as above. Any special requirements.

3. Ditto for competor software or Play station games etc.\

Hope someone can help.

Thanks.

I can assure you DVDs work for sure. I recently bought Shrek and there's no problem playing it on my laptop.

I also joined Tsutaya movie store here in Pattaya and their DVD/VCD movies play with no problem. However, you must open the folder through my computer that holds the film content.

Did I make that clear?

CD's should be no problem anywhere....unless you have an ancient CD player that doesn't support CDr's.

I have seen some DVD/VCD's coded for different regions in Pattaya.

Indeed.. it is a great deal to buy CD's and DVD's in Thailand. Software or Movies... CD's will work anywhere... DVD's can be encoded with different regions and in different formats. If you are using a DVD in a computer... no worries... However.. if you are looking to get DVD movies to play on your DVD player... you may want to look for:

1) Region Free Encoding (Worldwide) and if you are in the US or Canada NTSC formatted disks. For Eruope look for PAL.

2) Purchase a worldwide DVD player (I got one for $80).

1) The CDs will work in any CD Player. The "street" DVDs should be region-coding free. I've had no problem. Buying Thai movies will probably be region coded. I believe region 6 is what they are; I don't know what the region coding is in Australia. This can be a problem since most players only allow you to change regions a few times - even for laptop DVD's. (Mine did have this problem, I don't know if all do!)

2) If you have a cell phone under a company that pretty much spans the globe, chances are you can use it in Thailand if you purchase a new SIMM card at a cell shop. I think they are like 400bhat ($10US). Since I'm from the US and my Thailand phones are pretty much useless here, I keep making the mistake of saying "I'm not going back to Thailand any time soon", sell my phone to someone, and have to hit up MBK every time in Bangkok to buy a new phone! I know! Stupid! B)

3) The "street" computer software is OK and will work on any PC computer. "Street" Playstation games require that you have a chipped playstation, but if you do, then they SHOULD play. I don't know too much on this, but I had a couple friends who bought Japanese PS2's in Thailand, had them chipped there, and bought tons of games.

Hope this helps!

Adam
